Jeff's 240z build

Recommended Posts

Looking good Jeff, nothing like a bit of over engineering on the rotiserie mounts, nice work all the same. The rotiserie I used was much less engineered than yours and it has survived 3 restorations to date. Check it out.

As for the battery tray area, maybe consider a bolt in option like this one from Lithuania. I wish I had of thought of this before I welded mine back in place, so much easier to paint the area underneath and then just bolt it in.

Thanks Jeff.

Ha ha yep a bit of over engineering is always enjoyable. Why do it with one piece of steel when you can use two. It won't fall off any way!

That actually already my plan for the battery tray. I saw Lurch do this on pb's 260 2+2 build. He used nutserts. It's a great idea to be able to keep this area clean.

Body made it into the rotisserie last night.

I have a utepod on my work ute that lifts off. I used the jacks from it to lift the body onto the rotisserie. It worked out really well.

Looks like I managed to get the centreline of the whole thing close. It's just a little bit top heavy but with no floors or rails in it at the moment that's to be expected. Just need to install a cross brace between the two ends and it should all be honky dory.

After 1500 km in two days just made it home. It was a very productive trip to Victoria. Some times it is the things you literally just stumble on that are the best surprises. Picked up a rear passengers side quarter cut that will make repairing the tail light rusted section on my car much simpler. Plus a set of front guards and headlight scoops set of quarter windows and a bonnet. We took an empty ute and a full wallet and came back with the opposite.

Happy boy. Even the wife enjoyed the trip.

Where did ya find that stuff? I'm looking for a 1/4 panel, but for the drivers side. ;)

You got your answer. Was a great couple of hours. Honestly Lockie and I couldn't get the smiles off our faces. I am just so pumped. I think the new farther from Warragul will be a happy boy tonight.

Looks good Jeff let me know how they fit up.

Well I through one side on last night as per the photo and all the holes line up. So that's better than what I had. Won't be a few months until I get to fit it all together but they look very good.

Nice work Jeff, nice to see I'm not the only 50+ year old suffering a mid life crisis LOL

Almost. We are almost empty nesters. I said to my wife one day that with the kids off doing their own think and with more spare time I either needed a project to occupy the time or I could chase her around the house!! She said I had better get a project.....

Rocky got sick of the noise and dirt in the shed today and moved outside in the sun.

Made a good start cleaning the under side of the shell. Should get the floors in this week fingers crossed.

Off to Auto Italia tomorrow. Might get to drive a Ferrari or two.

Managed to get time to replace a piece of the floor/tunnel on the drivers side tonight. Well got it tacked in anyway. Was a bit tricky getting all the angles correct. Have a few other repairs to do before the new floors can get attached.

Good day today. Drivers side floor is in and the new full chassis rail is tech screwed in place. Almost had a complete disaster when I thought I had run out of weld through primer, but luckaly I found another can. Probably not the traditional way to stick all this together before welding but in my world of sheet metal and duct work the trusty tech screw is very handy. When removed it's easy to just fill the hole with a plug weld.
