  1. They are WA plates. We had yellow plates too. I don't have any paper work from back then for the chassis number. I'd like to know it too.
  2. I've often wondered what happened to my first 240z I did up when I was 17. Whether it had survived since I sold it around 1994 for around $4500. The bare metal porsche guards red paint job I did seems to have held up fairly well. Unfortunately as a 17 year old I though it was ok to bog up areas of the car, like the dog legs, and the front left guard. Reconstructing the front of the bonnet bulge in bog was sculptural work of art. The car had a tow bar fitted (i removed it), which hasn't been kind to the chassis. I'd never seen a cracked transmission tunnel like that. It was plated over and welded, and sections of the floor welded to remove the rust, and passed inspection to get licensed. Apart from the dog legs and a few sections of the floor the car was relatively rust free in 1987. This was the car I bought from a wrecker that was stolen in NSW and driven to WA. Edit: added a photo to show what it looked like when I got it (I'd started taking it apart and stripping paint, but the green and brown was what it looked like when I bought it)
  3. There's a couple of shed builds on ozdat too: http://ozdat.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=84
  4. Not sure if this has been posted yet? HSL30 280Z in QLD. $14,000 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Datsun-240Z-280Z-Short-Wheel-Base-2-Seater-2-8L-5-Speed-Nissan-/252180710567?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276
  5. Hearsay, but a guy I bought a Z from once, said he knew someone that had 240z #240. It was in a field under a tree rusting away, so probably a write-off. This was about 7 years ago.
  6. 3 of them that I know of over here. One in Grahams collection.
  7. Some bad Z Driving on Dashcam Owners Australia. https://youtu.be/PLUpksdIieU?t=4m40s
  8. redbubble are an Australia company, The company was founded in 2006 in Melbourne. I believe their t-shirts are printed locally for the AU market. Coincidentally I've just knocked out 2 designs for Datsun enthusiasts, and have some more designs planned. See link: http://goo.gl/3vkZ0i
  9. This is incorrect. Graham has 67,117 & 300 as the lowest numbers in his collection.
  10. The Scarab is only valuable/collectable (in the US at least, and not that valuable compared to an original Z) if it was one of the numbered Scarab factory built cars. Scarab also sold a lot of V8 kits, body kits and badges for people to convert their car themselves. Everything you never wanted to know about them : http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/2298-datsun-scarab-info/
  11. Haven't seen someone put the Cal Z rear fenders on a 2+2 before. They were only meant for the a 2 seater.
  12. Datsun jig-saw puzzle on gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-seller/Justin/1006020260 $1600 if you add up the bits.
  13. Just happened to find the rebuild book on someones Facebook page: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9a_WERWHY4GS2RYbWJ2bTIydWM/view
  14. Congrats on passing inspection. Apart from when he flips the 240z onto its roof, then it magically becomes some other car. Not sure what exactly.. my best guess is a late 70s mitsubishi lancer coupe.
  15. All 4 videos here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10153733175434553&id=294445069552 Some car guys lean on cars
  16. Saw number 173 at the WA Z day. Current owner bought it in the late 70s (second hand) and owned it ever since. Originally 905 red, but had been repainted before the current owner bought it.
  17. Yep. Open up the 240Z gauge and swap in the mechanism from the 260Z. I've done this. Then it bolts back in without having to modify mounting brackets, which are different between the 240 and 260 iirc.
  18. Maybe he didn't actually pay for the fuel.....
  19. No contraband in that car. Though I did find a couple of empty syringes in the front seat's back pocket of a TX-3 I bought from a dodgy used car dealer. I think the dealer got it through a repossession. Not surprising the owner couldn't make payments if he was spending all his money on injectable substances.
  20. Bought my first 240Z from a wrecker here in Perth, when I was 17 in the 1980s. Parents gave me $2000 to buy a car, probably should have bought something sensible, and drivable, but no, I found an unlicensed 240Z in need of a lot of TLC. The car was in very poor condition cosmetically. Story of the car was that it was stolen in NSW by an escaped prisoner and he fled across the country in it to WA. Car was stopped by the cops in Albany for a broken tail light, and the game was up. Prisoner went back to jail. Car was sold to the wreckers. Insurance company didn't want to transport it back across the country. In the glovebox I found a map of NSW with towns circled in biro and the words "Fill" written next to them. Presumably the escape route out of NSW and which towns he needed to fill the tank at.
  21. Saw this car on the weekend and noticed that the mirror angles were the same on both sides. I guess he must have a LHD (USA) drivers mirror, and a RHD (Aus) Drivers mirror.
