Riceburner Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 I also got some used Fairlady fender mirrors. These have the long stalk as factory fitted, but I really like the look of the stainless ones already fitted........ So I decided to put the stainless tops on the original long stalks. The stalks will be black, the tops stainless, this is keeping with the two tone theme I have on the G-nose. They also came with complete plastic bases I'll be pushing to get it all done for the BBQ at Gordo's but If I have to turn up with panels in undercoat so be it. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 looken good mate, will look grate when its done you wont wont to race it, its so pretty It's built to be thrashed Pete. Lol. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 12, 2011 Author Posted November 12, 2011 Fitted up the extra 50mm bracing to front end today with my mini mig. My brother showed me his handy work on the off cuts and helped me to weld in. They will get underbody fish oil coating, not the white paint when finished. Quote
Gordo Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 hi Gareth. this is the same type of brace bar my brother has in his v8 zed. Cheers Gordon. Quote
Sirpent Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Nice work Gareth, looking forward to seeing this at the BBQ even in partial undercoat. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Thanks John, time is fast running out and I still have a lot to do. I'm probably a 50/50 chance to make it at the moment, fingers crossed though. Gordon has Craig noticed any difference in the feel/stiffness of his car? I wasn't too sure about it but seems to be a common mod particularly with track cars. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 Few more goodies arrived today. I found some Nismo long hub bolts on ebay and thought it could be really handy to have some, mine are originals and the wheels come off and back on very often. The best part is my brand new rear muffler, I'm going to put it in the factory location. It's a stainless twin 60mm as per the 432 style! Quote
Riceburner Posted November 22, 2011 Author Posted November 22, 2011 yeah, I'll have to run a centre resonator otherwise it'll boom Quote
Riceburner Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 My Ebay special delivery arrived today........ Rb20det gearbox from an R32 skyline, apparently only has noisey bearings but we will see when it's pulled apart. At the very least it will get new bearings, seals and a better ratio fifth gear, I have a spare 77 260z 5spd which I will pinch the bellhousing from. Current box is ok for normal driving, but on track it 'snicks' when changing up or down even with double clutching. Anyone know where to get an RB20det bearing/seal rebuild kit from? Quote
Scando Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 If you don't want to pull the 260Z 5 spd apart, I have a bellhousing sitting about with the hole already enlarged for the bigger diameter selector shaft in the R32 box. $20 plus freight? If you're interested, send me a PM with your address and I'll get you a quote on freight. Quote
Riceburner Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Ooooh that would be nice, PM sent Quote
Chassis254 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 That muffler is fantastic. Can you let us know where you got it? Quote
zedevan Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I was just about to ask the same thing, if it was a custom bit or off the shelf. I was going to start looking around for twin verticle exhausts early in the new year (assuming side exhausts are illegal in Vic, but can't find any info regarding this that makes sense to me right now) Quote

Riceburner Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 That muffler is fantastic. Can you let us know where you got it? I got it on Yahoo Japan, the welds are awesome and the stainless in fantastic. It looks like the Fujitsubo muffler but has no markings like they usually do, so I assume it's just a copy Quote

Here's a vid of the muffler on a twin 60.5mm stainless system with twin mid mounted resonators, it's what I'll be going for Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 6, 2011 Administrators Posted December 6, 2011 That exhaust is awesomeness, it will look great on your 240ZG replica. Can't wait to hear it in action. Quote
luvemfast Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 How sweet is your car going to be next year Gareth! Quote
zedevan Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Your twin exhaust system (and entire car) is going to be rather nice In Vic, the exhaust may exit at the side of a vehicle, however it must be rearward of any door of opening window. http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/9B3A858D-15A0-4572-90BF-3D08214BF7BE/0/VSInumber8Guidetomodificationsformotorvehicles.pdf Considering there is only about 5cm from the door to the rear wheel, makes it almost impossible to have a side exit then.. Thanks Maygz, I've come across that document before but can't see any reference in it at all regarding the exhaust exit location (except for saying direct entry into the occupant compartment is not allowed), and as Candy33 hinted at, would it be taken as a verticle line down from the further rear opening? Quote
MaygZ Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 It's clear as mud. I've cut this out of the Vic Roads RW guide: "The outlet must be located so as to avoid direct entry of gases into the passenger compartment and must not extend beyond the plan of the vehicle." http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/AA944BA2-1210-460F-94BF-069159D224F8/0/VSI26web.pdf - page 6 There is nothing in any literature that I can source to say it must come out the back or a particular side. There are lots of people who say it must do this and do that or it's (?) illegal, but they don't quote any source or reference. I have found restrictions on vertical pipes and catalyst and silencer and emissions but nothing else on design, other than it can't run through the cabin, and from another Vic Roads mod sheet (link in earlier post) that regulates protrusions. I recall reading many (and I mean many) years ago documents regarding exhaust exit angles (up, down, left & right), exit distances/clearances, but I can't find any such documents that are now current. It would appear to me that as long as it is secure, clears the road by at least 100mm, doesn't leak (water drain holes are NOT leaks), meets the relevant noise emissions (98dB for most of us) and isn't likely to cut or burn anyone - it would meet all the requirements. (emissions are a seperate issue ) Hope this helps. MaygZ Quote
Agno Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Just a side note, if anyone wants a similar style exhaust to that video you can buy Reinhard (240ZG/Fujitsubo style) exhausts direct from the manufacturer for about $800-1500 depending on the amount of people buying and the final postage cost. http://www.alibaba.com/product-tp/121421469/Fairlady_Z_S30_Dual_muffler.html Quote
