acf321 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Gareth, this car just keeps getting better and better. Are you planning to keep the car road registered, or will it morph into an all out racer? Keep up the good work (and inspiration!). Adam Quote
Riceburner Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 It's a going to be a pig road/moderate track car for the time being. When I win lotto, I'll go all out on it and I'll buy an R35 and use it to tow the ricey to the track Quote
peter mc Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 its all but finished will set tappets tomorow and you can bolt it on Quote
Riceburner Posted March 14, 2011 Author Posted March 14, 2011 It's been a busy weekend for me, picked up the cylinder head from Peter Mac and WOW what a job he's done, He's the Picasso of P90's I can't thank him enough! The engine is assembled and awaiting a few more small things. Excuse the ancient balancer, it's just for setup I fitted the Deisel Water Pump to a standard timing cover, this required a small amount of grinding inside the impeller housing as it's larger than a standard pump. Other than that, no problems. Quote
acf321 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 As Bruce Lee would say Gareth; "You wanna fight?" very lovely BTW! Quote
luvemfast Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Looking good mate. What are you doing for intake to match? Those carbs might not be enough now? Quote
peter mc Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 the carbs will be fine as the comp is not to hi .will be a good thing with his carbs .it would be under carbed if he had 12to1. will make peak power at 6000 with the cam we went with Quote
Riceburner Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Hehe..."Fight Me" Intake is something I made myself with 40mm I.D aluminium pipe, also the carbs are 42mm all the way through and don't have chokes. At the moment on the short video i did, it was going to 6500rpm and the slides only went 1/3 of the way up I only hope it's close to coping with Peter's wizardry. I can't wait to get it in, run it....... then thrash the ring out of it! Quote
Agno Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Love the look of this car Gareth... It's pretty much what my ideal Z looks like. Clean, simple and not too over the top Just wondering what light covers you are using? They look very cool Quote

RB30X Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Intake is something I made myself with 40mm I.D aluminium pipe Got any pics mate. Looking at making my own manifold too. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 16, 2011 Author Posted March 16, 2011 Got any pics mate. Looking at making my own manifold too. I'll take a few pics next week with the new motor, I think we'll be able to see the valves by looking down the inlet runners. Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Well folks after two days of work the engine has come to life and WOW does it have some go even if it's only to 5000rpm during the run in It needs to treated well down low by easing into the gas but once it hits 3500-4000 it's like stepping into the gravtron! Thanks Peter, the head is a doosey and the headers fit fine. Everything went to plan, so much so that the new engine was dropped in and bolted to the box and mounts in 15mins, not bad going! I decided to paint everything matt black except for the head and timing cover as I read somewhere it's meant to more efficient at heat rejection, it also looks pretty mean too. I left some greasy finger prints on the headers and now they are starting to color up my prints are becoming more visible. Does anyone know of a way to clean them up so all I see is the goldy/purple goodness? No vid as I had to DIY the exhaust from the new pipes to the old system and it didnt sound too good. The engine drives really well, has big power and kinda reminds me of my brothers old Boss V8 Ford ute.... Only better looking Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 Here's a pic of the no.6 inlet runner. I made this manifold up myself by cutting the flanges off an old SU manifold then welding 40mm I.D aluminium pipe to it, they meet up very nicely with the ports. More pics. Quote
KatoKid Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Great stuff Gareth and Pete, wouldnt mind a ride once she's run in! Quote
peter mc Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Hi Gareth, Does the cam feel like it has a wide power band? What does it idle like coz it's got a fair bit of duration and lift so I was wondering what it was like? Quote
Riceburner Posted March 25, 2011 Author Posted March 25, 2011 It idles smooth and even. I have it at around 900rpm. Cam comes on at 3500, but goes to another level at 4000-4500. I haven't gone over 5000 yet as it only has 2 1/2hrs of running. It's like having a different car and it feels quick! Quote
luvemfast Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Great stuff mate, colour me green! Well........ There goes my plans to keep up with you mate See you tomorrow? Quote
peter mc Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 ha Simon we can make lots of power with what you have in the shed...no problem at all. will have to get that car on the dyno Gareth and play with the set up and see what she got Quote
Z Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 How much fun are you about to have! Getting that engine on the dyno after all the time and planning, looks awesome! Quote
acf321 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Gareth Sorry to repeat myself, but you car just keeps getting better. Like you, I love hi-po L-series engines. Talk me through those headers? They look a little Schmancy! Where from, ceramic coating? BTW .. I took your lead and bought a 240KPH speedo, thanks. I still want a race though! Cheers Adam Quote
Z Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 So were did you end up finding a 240kph speedo Adam? Quote
Riceburner Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 How much fun are you about to have! Getting that engine on the dyno after all the time and planning, looks awesome! Yeah I'm guna play a bit with the jetting, as it's a little out with the bigger, better motor. Then get to the dyno. Adam the headers are stainless steel, from Ignition Dragon in Japan. They have already started to go that gold/purple color after a few good heat cycles. They are located in sendai, still have parts for sale on yahoo japan so I think they survived the recent disasters. Quote
