MaygZ Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Right back at ya! Your virgin link posting worked a treat!! They look good. Are they standard zed size? Are they a bit thicker than the singles? Are they the same diameter? Do they require a change of caliper? Do you think they would suit the hilux conversion or is the diameter too small? Quote
RB30X Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 More importantly how much did it cost to get those heavy suckers sent from the other side of the world? Quote
Riceburner Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 They are exactly the same as standard original rotors I had. I run non vented Hilux calipers and the fit is perfect. Shipping was $100 had to send them individually. I'm sure with enough research you'd be able to find someone over here to do you blank rotors for cheaper than what it cost me. I'm an impatient bugger though Quote
Riceburner Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Well didn't I get a surprise today when I arrived home, Waiting for me was a P90 head ready for some of Peter Mc's treatment! It looks to be in good condition with no corrosion in water jackets. Peter?? I'm coming with a special delivery on friday if thats ok? Quote
Riceburner Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Also seeing has I haven't updated for a while I thought I'd cheat and use mod I did before I started my build thread. I got it from a Zed site but can't remember which one, anyway there are extra factory globe cutouts in 240z tail lights in between the two stop/tail globes. It's plugged up with a rubber grommet, just pop it out, go to the wreckers and get R31 indicators from the front quater panels, remove the globe, fitting and 10cm of wiring. Then place into your brake light and connect nuetral and +12v from your brake light wiring and hey presto 3 brake lights per lens! These only draw 5watts so bugger all extra current is drawn. Pic was taken in the middle of the day, they are much brighter at night! Quote
Riceburner Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Just took more pics, much better I think Quote
Riceburner Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 My latest upgrade is some used vented inspection lids, I had to sandlast the paint and surface rust off then paint them. Not a bad finish considering it was done with $2 spay can and a travel hairdryer Quote
RB30X Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Damn it, yours look way better than mine. What a co-incidence. Quote
Scoota G Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I'd like to see the other side too, great bit of custom work. If you keep your hand out the window in winter it should keep it warm. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted October 15, 2010 Administrators Posted October 15, 2010 is there a reason lots of people put this on there cars 2 main reasons I can think of. 1. 240z's are known for vapor lock issues. Although I've never experienced this myself and I've driven mine in 40 degree summer heat (not pleasant mind you) but the car had no issues. I suspect most issues with vapor lock are related to owners removing the heat shield below the carbs and replacing the standard airbox with aftermarket K&N filters. Which is a performance downgrade if you ask me. Anyway point is 240z's and early 260z's had no vents in the hood, which did not allow hot air to escape the engine bay. Add to this the non-cross flow head and you get lots of heat around the intake charge = not good. Putting vents in like this allows hot air to escape reducing vapor lock issues. 2. The 260z vents in my opinion are ugly. I personally hate them, they look like some cheap floor heater vent. So you can either use the stock 240 / 260 non fluted bonnet and cut into it with vents or you can install them in the inspection flaps which are cheap, easily available and easy to revert back to stock later. When you consider the price of a new bonnet from Nissan it makes sense. Also the Toyota 2000GT had the vents here so it's period correct and a very subtle mod that has a performance benefit + looks heaps cooler in my opinion too! Quote
Riceburner Posted October 15, 2010 Author Posted October 15, 2010 is there a reason lots of people put this on there cars I got them cause I have mounted my MSD-6AL2 CDI ignition near the battery, so increased airflo will help to keep it from overheating. Also I do love the look of the Toyota 2000gt and thought these would be a good addition to the 'Ricey' Damn it, yours look way better than mine. What a co-incidence. White always looks the best you cant go wrong! Here's the underside Scoota, it was sandblasted to bare metal top n bottom Quote
RB30X Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Get you get the vents punched or fabricate them in from something else. Quote
luvemfast Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 Get you get the vents punched or fabricate them in from something else. Yes, I'd like to know too. Never seen these before, will look good Gareth. Quote
Riceburner Posted October 16, 2010 Author Posted October 16, 2010 There's no way I would have the skills to fabricate these myself, I've been trawling ebay for quite a while waiting for some to pop up that already had the vents in them. There is a parts supplier in the USA that sells them, they also have bonnets done similar to an e-type Jag. IMO the vented bonnet they do looks awful. Quote
Riceburner Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 New 87.5mm pistons, rings, gaskets, bearings arivved from SWM today spent cup day pulling down the spare motor, the main bearings were .25 oversized so the crank has had work before. Still waiting on bits from Kameari and Spool rods. It'll be off to the machinst next week for boring, balancing, polishing and should be all together by mid december, after the BBQ though :'( I liked Scoota's polished bits (timing cover, t/stat housing, water inlet) so much I now have some for my new donk when it goes together I've become a sticker whore in the last year or so and was thinking of having these under the bonnet as extra eye candy Quote
luvemfast Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 Wowzers I didn't know the timing cover could be sooooo shineeeeeeyyyyyy Quote
Riceburner Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 More parts for the new engine build arrived today. Mmmmmmm Kameari Quote
Riceburner Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 Spool rods arrived today, so it's now off to crankshaft rebuilders for all machining work and I'll do the assembly. Also got a heavy duty Filtermag, it just clips onto the oil filter. These are supposed to pick up minute metal particles down to >2microns that pass through the oil filter. It's the RA365 to suit a Z115 oil filter, it has a pull force of 272.15kg's this ensures all the particles are trapped by the magnet and dont go back through the engine increasing wear (so they claim). Also comes with a lifetime warranty. I figure it's cheap insurance for the new motor, every little bit counts Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted November 9, 2010 Moderators Posted November 9, 2010 I strapped a couple of rare earth magnets to my filter when I was running in my L28.. very good idea Quote
Riceburner Posted November 15, 2010 Author Posted November 15, 2010 Picked up some Stuart Wilkins Motorsport offset strut tops from Sinisha (hope is spelled that correct) these will give me an extra 1deg of neg camber taking total from 2.5deg to 3.5deg. The car handles very nice at the moment, not nervous or twitchy but with just a hint of understeer. If I find the change not to my liking I can set up the offset going back toward the firewall adding castor Quote
Riceburner Posted November 16, 2010 Author Posted November 16, 2010 Fitted the offset strut tops today and they have transformed the turn in/handling, big test will be this weekend at the island Quote
Scando Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Good stuff. 3.5 deg is spot on what my tyre supplier recommended for semi-slicks and is what I currently run. Will be interesting to see if it feels much different this weekend Quote
peter mc Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 how much caster are you running i like more caster as it make the car more stable under brakes and mid corner Quote
Riceburner Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 I'm running 1.4 on the left and 2 on the right, I also have the solid t/c kit fitted. Quote
