Riceburner Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Had a play with the jetting, I was a bit sus on the main jet size as it didnt quite pull as hard above 5,800. Everything else seemed fine so I went 250 mains and the Ricey loves it, smooth, hard power all the way to 7,000. Feels like it'll keep going too. Quote
luvemfast Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Doing an event soon to test it out? Winton is coming up, but I was thinking of doing the Rob Roy hillclimb the same day. You should come too Quote
Riceburner Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 I rekon I'll do winton, it's a fun track, come along and give the frankenstein a hiding. Where do we get the entries? Quote
peter mc Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 good to hear Gareth it will be a fun car that head is one good thing it will rpm to 7000 no prob Quote
luvemfast Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Hurry up and enter, I'm in http://www.msca.net.au/events.php?id=4 Got till 5pm tomorrow. Mark Rae's number is on the supregs if you need to call him. Ask to go in the same group as me so we can play Racing for pinks? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 Just got the tacho back. It's been stripped out, new face made, new modern internals so it can hook straight up to my MSD6AL-2 ignition. Plugged it in this afternoon it's super smooth when revving up or down, only thing I'm missing is one of the two lights that plug into the back of the gauge, it has been cut off...... Just in time for Winton, woohoo! While tuning the new engine over the weekend I kept scratching my head and wondering why it would miss and stop revving at 6900rpm. In the end I gave up frustrated, when day dreaming later on I thought to myself could it be the rev limiter?? Nah I was certain it was at 7200rpm, curiosity got the better of me and I checked it...... sure enough set for 6900 DUH! problem solved. Set it for 7300rpm Quote

They got the Typeface spot on, looks stock love it. Modern internals would be awesome too, since my 1 bounces around a bit. Quote
luvemfast Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 Looks great mate, but how does she go at 6,900RPM? Guess I'll find out Sunday We're not in the same group though Down to the clock then........... Game on Quote
Riceburner Posted April 5, 2011 Author Posted April 5, 2011 The work was done by an instrument shop in mulgrave called 'Hit300' really top notch work, recommended by GV260. I got the picture from an old post on HybridZ, Alan (HS30H) posted it as an factory original 10,000 tach, even has the peak power dots and the 'kanto seiki' writing at the bottom of face plate. I saw the groupings Simon, Mark said he couldn't do it cause of your multiple entry, so blame your dad! haha. Goes great at 6,900rpm and even better at 7,000rpm. Quote
Riceburner Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 Winton today, I only got 2 laps before I smelled coolant under brakes on the last corner, turned in and spun halfway through but kept the boot in it to get of the racing line. Returned to the pits to find the welsh plug straight behind the alt completely missing Managed to get some more in town thanks to Dave Saunders, fitted, filled with 6lts of water and after few tests/heat cycles drove the 3hrs home. Phew! Why would a welsh plug be blown out of the block??? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 I'm running a high pressure Kameari radiator cap, LD28 Water pump and a 160 thermostat. Could this be part of the problem? Quote
luvemfast Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Dude that sux. Mustn't have been put in right, those suckers are hard to get out normally. No damage done? Quote
Riceburner Posted April 10, 2011 Author Posted April 10, 2011 Dude that sux. Mustn't have been put in right, those suckers are hard to get out normally. No damage done? I put the whole engine together, I just don't get why it's happened? There doesn't appear to be any damage, temp gauge was a little above 3/4 but I don't think it was reading water as it tokk 6ltrs to fill it up. I drove it all the way home sitting on 3,600rpm for over 2hrs and it didn't loose any water so guess all is good. On the one flying lap I did it was going real hard! So might have been a lucky escape. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Well, it's time for another front end change............ Some would call it a nose to rival Gerard Depardieu I got a few spare bits from Freddie at Top Stage, but I also have a 5 piece kit in pretty good condition. The changeover could take a while though as I want it to be a pretty neat fit. I'd love it to look like the print I recently ordered! Also picked up a new coil as my old one had started to leak a bit of oil from the lead connection. It's the latest from MSD and the most powerful I can run on the MSD6AL-2. It's huge at 10cmx10cmx10. It might also come in handy if anyone needs a defibrillator, just need to make up some paddles Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 18, 2011 Moderators Posted May 18, 2011 Has Freddie finished the moulds? Last I heard he was finishing the lower front part. Better drop in tomorrow! Quote
Riceburner Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Dimitri, he has finished the top parts but I didn't see any lower sections apart from the original siver one that was for sale. Quote
roastbeef Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Gareth, Would be amazing to see a properly fast trackday G nose car done in period style! I must confess I have been going through the same process on my car. My friend has had an old (apparently genuine) 5 piece G nose sitting in his garage for the past 6 years, and I recently bought some good condition NOS headlight covers from the UK a month or two ago. My initial dilemma was whether or not I would be worried about smashing up the G nose on track. Part of the appeal of my current setup is I feel fairly confident in throwing the car around aggressively knowing there isn't anything that can 't be replaced. I also went through the similar thought process you had a while ago of the old short nose racecars with no bumpers/blocked off radiators etc. Still haven't fully decided which route to take yet, but I'm very interested in how your G nose conversion goes. If the Top Stage parts fit well they would be a perfect local source in case of a frontal shunt! Quote

I'm aiming for exactly that, I want it to look shmick but, I also want something to drive real hard otherwise I'll loose appreciation for it and it's not as fun. No trailer queen. If I break it most things can be fixed.... I hope! lol. I actually have located a set of NOS G-Nose headlight covers too, I don't think they look quite right without them. Hopefully I'll have more on these soon..... Ideally It'll look something like this pic but no flares at this stage and possibly a chin spoiler on the lower section of g-nose. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Just found out I got a set of NOS ZG headlight covers! I'm stoked and think they will really complete the look of the G-Nose when I get around to doing it ;D Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 20, 2011 Moderators Posted May 20, 2011 Well done Gareth! how did you score those? I'm curious as to find out how much? If you want to pm me the price.. I'll need a set when I put a ZG nose on my 240 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 20, 2011 Administrators Posted May 20, 2011 Awesome mate, I really like the Gnose and I think it's really under appreciated. You have to see a proper version of it in person. So many cheap copies have destroyed the look. Make sure you go with the original colour scheme too, it won't look right all white. Has to have that 2 tone. It will look amazing I'm sure. The dilemma going with the Gnose was expense of getting a good 1 and using ZG flares. Still not sure I want to chop up the guards on the old girl yet. Quote

Think I need to come have a look through your stuff! Quote
