NZeder Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Nice looking Bus you have there love the colour - but I am biased - love a green zed many don't which is good - make ours rarer just for the colour it wears ;) Quote
peter t Posted April 17, 2011 Author Posted April 17, 2011 Thanks for all your good words and yes a green Z is really somthing. Too Many red and yellow ones out there. A +karma to you all Quote

RB30X Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Feels good to be driving it on the road again, and legally doesnt it. I had the same moment six months ago. Good on you mate, now enjoy it. Quote
Bigfella Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Well done Peter, That is awesome. Just out of interest, How much do you think it cost to go through the rego process. Thanks Matt Quote
Sirpent Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Have to admit 2+2's ain't my cup of tea and green is way down on the list of favorites, but you have done a great job of it peter and its a tribute to you, I actually like the whole package. And why does the wife like the spoiler black?, because she probably hate the smell of paint wafting into the house LOL Congratulations John Quote
mossy Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Good job Peter, its always nice to see a project completed, enjoy the drive Quote
peter t Posted April 19, 2011 Author Posted April 19, 2011 Well done Peter, That is awesome. Just out of interest, How much do you think it cost to go through the rego process. Thanks Matt Roady cost a bit over $100, CTP Was a bit over $300 and 12 months rego was a bit over $600, Full comp insurance about $39 a month. All up about $40k to get it to this stage. Have to say about in case the wife is looking. Thanks to all you guys that have helped me in this journey that includes all the people who have posted stuff that I have referred to on the site. This is one of best sites for anyone with a Z and I hope I have helped other people with what I have posted building my Z. Quote

And why does the wife like the spoiler black?, because she probably hate the smell of paint wafting into the house LOL Congratulations John Thanks John, the spoiler will be painted as I had to fit it up first and the wife knowes sh#t. As far as green goes there is too many red and yellow and other colours of the rainbow Z"s out there and I like BRG. Many great cars are painted this colour and I think it suits the age of the car. I have ordered PP for the car in White on Black as these were the original QLD plate colours. Mine are 75ZPT. People that own Z cars will know what it means. Quote
reverendzed Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Awesome Pete, enjoy and now you can just tinker with it along the way rather than the Zed in the shed syndrome! Rev. Quote
peter mc Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 well done peter ;)now lets hope the grass recovers from that skid Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 19, 2011 Moderators Posted April 19, 2011 Great to see Peter! Thanks for the greenout! Would love to see it in person one day... Quote
peter t Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Finally got to take the Z out on the road today. Straight up the street to my old mechanic mate as I promised him first ride. Off we go around the block and up on the motorway for about 500mtr than off again. I have a good test track where I live as you can potter along for about 1.5k, slip up on to the motorway for a quick burst and back off again about 500mtr from home. Talk about being as nervous as a new bride, well it is back to the shed to fix a few minor problems. First the diff is bit noisy but that may be from sitting around not used for 3 years, second it won't hold in 5th gear, could be a shifter problem. No matter have a spare box in the shed that is good, speedo not working, will check if fitted properly to both ends. And last but not least, the rear carbie keeps flooding as the fuel pipe is full of insect nest mud and blocking the needle valve. Silly me didn't tape up ends of pipes when storing them away during the rebuild. I guess I have come out all right considerating I am only a back yard mechanic, panel beater and Spray painter. Now it is back to the shed to fix the problems. What was that? I think I just heard the wife saying the grass needs mowing, the garden needs weeding and the shrubs need trimming. Sorry guys I gotta go. [up to the shed] Quote
peter t Posted April 24, 2011 Author Posted April 24, 2011 Got that rear carbie sorted out even though it took me all afternoon. The mixture screw was open that wide that it wouldn't shut off after closing the throttle, therefore it was flodding all the time. Last time I had SU carbies was on my 64 Cortina so don't be too harsh on me. Speedo and 5th gear can wait, I just want to potter around the neighbourhood and get confidence in the car so one day it will be off on a good drive on the black stuff. [No gardening done today but not sure that I will be able to get out of it tomorrow. Wish me luck.] Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted April 25, 2011 Moderators Posted April 25, 2011 Peter, I had a similar problem with the shifter popping out of 5th... I was dreading it was the gearbox but luckily turned out it was the rubber boot pulling the shifter back into neutral... Try it without the boot first before you remove the gearbox. Quote
peter t Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks Dimitri, will give it a go. What do you think about the twin Weber 32/36 DGV carbies /kit from Redline in the states. Quote
peter t Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Well defenitally a gearbox change coming up. Chewed up half a tank of gas on the weekend driving around. The wife thought I had broken down I was away that long. No faith in my ability at all. Fitted the driving lights but they don't look right so took them off. Found a couple of SR20 Boxes for $700 so might go buy one of those on the weekend. 280ZX boxes are like rocking horse shit now and it doesen't seem to much bother to fit a SR20 so that may be the road I will take. Quote
Sirpent Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Pete, Don't think the driving lights look that bad, very period as a matter of fact, Id just suggest setting them back deeper beneath the bar and in the grille recess', you may find that they look a hole lot better. Cheers John P.S. What gear were you stuck in? Quote
peter t Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 That is exactly the path I was thinking of going John, for now I have the gearbox issue to fix then all the cosmetic stuff can come later. A truly reliable Z is the first target now I can drive it on the road. How else am I going to get to the Alice. Quote
Lynton Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Nice to see another really smart 2+2 on the road I like the color, the wheels, a great job well done. I am sure half the reason 2+2's are less popular than 2 seaters is because most 2+2's are very run down, full of rust, have multi colors of decrepid poor paint and generally look forelorn and crappy. Yours is one out of the box, congratulations!! Lynton Quote
