OdinZ Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 They have listed it as a - 1986 Nissan Fairlady Z Z31 Manual Confidence building? I am going to assume this is because they want to list it as a Nissan Fairlady Z and not a Datsun 240z/260z, so the Z31 is the only option on carsales. Quote

gwoodford Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Hi, just spoke to the person selling the Fairlady Z rolling shell with the hole in the bonnet. Says its imported from Japan and has never been through compliance in Australia so it needs an engineers certificate to be registered once it has been restored. gav240z 1 Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted December 18, 2017 Author Administrators Posted December 18, 2017 Hi, just spoke to the person selling the Fairlady Z rolling shell with the hole in the bonnet. Says its imported from Japan and has never been through compliance in Australia so it needs an engineers certificate to be registered once it has been restored. It's an odd car, looking very "Americanised" with the v8 conversion or whatever was put in it with an automatic. It also has "Datsun" badges on the fenders, but you can tell it's a home market car. RHD, Speedometer, Grille, (no clock so can't tell if it was a Z-S (basic) or Z-L (luxury) model), rear defrost glass, hazard switch, Z-badged horn button(which likely means the steering wheel is more shallow than export markets - deeper for leg room with taller westerners), it has the front bumper overriders which are not common on home market cars. So it looks to have been "DE-Fairlady'd" at some point. I can't help but think this car was imported to Australia at some stage, registered with V8 etc. and then de-registered. Did the seller import it himself or buy it off someone else? It shouldn't need engineering approval IF it's only got an L-series motor. However Australian compliance may be necessary, although that's a minor concern to be honest. There is evidence of considerable rust issues in the firewall, chassis rails, radiator support etc.. this is a big project despite it's otherwise "ok" first glance. OdinZ 1 Quote

Didnt last long I reckon Stivva's old car, with early S30Z tail lamps, G-nose kit and set of Triples... would be a fun road car. . For some reason I thought it had Triples on it previously? Quote

For some reason I thought it had Triples on it previously? yep, would be a very fun road car! I tried to skim through his build thread (most photos dont load), and noticed him tuning SUs on page 3, but dont have time to go through all 29 pages to see if he fitted triples at some stage. Quote

KatoKid Posted December 20, 2017 Posted December 20, 2017 If its done properly, that's worth $40 easily. Quote

Edit: I just asked Daniel & his priority's have changed. So is the wide body 260z unroadworthy in its current form? Or just requires engineering to verify what’s been done? Quote
