^^ Seriously bugging me ... does anyone know where the car is parked on that last shot??

I'm drawing lines on a map, but can't place the exact location.

Hi aj_

Not 100% certain, but it looks like Balls Head Reserve down the bottom of Waverton.

Is it just me or are 90% of the sellers in Just Cars magazine somewhat optimistic about the price they're going to get ?  It's been my observation over the last 20 years of occasionally buying/browsing.  Granted this is a 2 seater but it's still unregistered and in a less desirable model ?

Nice spot! I'll have to take a *meeting there one day. Cheers.

If you go at night and someone comes up to your car and asks you if you're here for the 'dogging' you say no.. ;)

Just Cars magazine is always priced a little high, but given it's a 2 seater I think price is justified. I only know of a handful of such examples in the country. So whilst there is a small market there is limited supply to go with.

Suit resto.. No shit lol

12k? Dreaming

Let's see what Mr Market says... I see some positives and negatives. Depends how long it's been sat in that spot for unloved...

Jeez. The '73 is not even bolted together. As for the '71, good luck. I think the asking prices are at least double what they are worth in that state given what remains that's even remotely useable.

The WA car in red & grey primer for K$10 looks by far the best of those three. The other two look to have deteriorated far past any practical, sensible and value-for-money restoration.

Best to buy the ex-UK silver car further up the page for K$33, tidy the paint and bits and pieces and drive it now, far better value than any of those rotted 'project' cars on which you'd be spending tens of thousands of dollars and years of work trying to save.

Hmmm not sure how good the ex-UK car is (if it is indeed an ex-UK car). But it certainly is a better starting point than the other 3.

Outside of that the WA car which is an auto 72 model looks like a reasonable buy for a project oriented buyer.

It sure seems that a lot of Zeds have surfaced in the past 12-18 months that have somehow escaped the metal recycling bogey man, with being parked up outside have deteriorated well beyond any practical restoration, yet their owners are still asking moonbeams prices.

Sadly it appears that not many are left in great shape these days. They all have dotted history. Even my 72 240z has had some rust repairs I'm not entirely happy with, still a great car but it wasn't repaired to a standard I'd hold myself to, as I'm sure many others were not either! The more I look the more I realise how difficult it is to find a true time capsule car.

By the way if anyone can tell me the chassis no's for the WA car and the Silver 73 (with UK style bumper). I'd appreciate it, as I'll add it to the records!

Its nice, but stuff like having a grille from a standard '68 model rather than a SSS '71 model would make me a bit wary.

Cheap enough though compared to similar cars that have come up for sale.

Yeah, it’s quite nice.

A couple pics of the engine bay would be nice.

What’s the stuff in the boot just right of the fuel tank?

Posted (edited)

The little white / ivory box is the controller for the sequential flashing indicators (a SSS-only feature, only works on the SSS specific taillights). The black box with hoses looks to be some sort of fuel vapour thing ? Not sue if its a Japanese market feature, aussie 1600's just had a plastic pipe going to the vent in the boot floor where the black box is.

Sequential indicators are cool. And so is the mechanical controller.

If you're buying it under no illusion that it may be hiding some poor panel repairs in the past it is ok..

Something about the dog leg area just doesn't sit right...

This car did not sell - there were only two bids (highest was $20,200)

It has been relisted with an even shorter description of -

"240z datsun runs well 3rd owner since new still has rego"

There has already been one bid of $20,000 (which was again the Starting bid) and the Buy It Now price is also the same ($33,000)

The new eBay auction ends this Sunday - (10 Dec, 2017 22:03:13 AEDST)

From the ad;

"For Sale, a stunning 1974 Datsun 240Z, one of the last to be made"

"Engine L24-183878"

It might have been first registered in January 1974, but I would call it a 1973 240Z.

9/73 complied 240Z's have engine numbers of L24-189xxx

Seller's Comment

For Sale, a stunning 1974 Datsun 240Z, one of the last to be made, in rare orange colour, as per original.

I’ve owned the car for 14 years, it’s been garaged, serviced and well maintained all this time. The car is in very good condition, body, engine and interior. Tyres are in excellent condition. The car drives very well and is a head turner every time it’s taken out.
It has Special Interest plates so is only driven once a week.

Further details are listed below. Don’t hesitate to contact me for more information or photos etc.

Original late model 240Z - January 1974
Engine L24-183878
5 speed manual
22,197 miles (35,700 kms)
Registered to 23/06/2018

Gearbox and engine overhaul (re-bore/hone, head service, pistons, rods, bearings, radiator, etc) July 1999.
Replaced clutch master & slave cylinder
Replaced tie rod ball joint
Re-sleeved and rebuilt wheel cylinder, machine rear drums
Replaced rear gearbox mount, rear brake shoes
Replaced muffler
Repaired radiator and replaced bottom hose
New battery

The car is in excellent general condition, there are no marks or dents on the body, paint work is very nice.
It has a black interior with fabric seats, dashboard has no cracks. Doors, boot and floor lining are all fine.
