Yeah I think the body is probably average. Hence the single photo and lack of details.

For those interested. Apart from the sunroof looks a fantastic buy. (duh...)

I spoke to the gentleman selling and he has unsurprisingly had lots of interest. It may have rust but he doesn't believe there is much, including at the front of the bonnet as a result of bonnet vents and another small spot somewhere (I can't remember).

Lovely fellow who has just retired and no longer has time for the car. Also selling a MK2 Jag.

EDIT: Just got told car is now sold

Not surprised it sold. I very nearly bought it myself!

Happy for Ken and the new owner. :-)

Are they a forum member? Hope so!

I also called with intent to purchase (for my father actually) but I was clearly never in with a shot from over in Adelaide...

I was tempted to skive off work Friday and have a look at it. But that would just be greedy.

That 240z is barely a car compared to a 2+2 for the same money, your dreaming.? You get what you pay for!!

Bidding went up to nearly 40K USD - which is about 45k AUD at current exchange rate. Car did not meet reserve. Don't blame the seller, I wouldn't have sold at that price either.

Just goes to show that even in the US with their abundance of supply, prices for early S30z's is on a rapid rise.

Is it just me or is this a tad sus?

Shown as a left hand drive, but look at the engine bay....... What's wrong with this picture? ???

My guess. These are actual physical photos that were scanned into a computer and therefore come out mirrored. I'd say the photos are from some time ago now and likely the car has deteriorated since then. At a guess... :P

Dude.... why do you keep posting US sales?

Nobody cares.

These cars are on International soil, left hand drive and cost a lot to import...

Posted

Yes, I appreciate it, too.

The US classic car market is often indicative of what is going to happen to local car prices. Looking at US auction prices gives you a good idea of what is likely to happen here. Look at FJ40s for example; a quite few good examples went for $60-80K at auction in the US last year, and you can already see the local market responding here.

Some people aren't interested in educating themselves in market trends, but I don't mind it as a hobby, and regularly buying and selling cars is entertaining, so...each to their own.

I would have thought it was self explanatory but since it's not allow me to elaborate. I'm sure there are dozens of us who are interested in the same thing on here. DOZENS!

1. As mentioned it's indicative of a greater trend. The US market has always been saturated with choice compared with everywhere else in the world. As a result their prices have always been softer. Lately though I've noticed their prices are starting to uptick relatively rapidly, I think a big part of it is interest in other Japanese marques like the Toyota 2000GT that sold for over 1M and the Hakosuka GTR and Mazda Cosmo's selling in the $200,000 + range (which I personally think are bargain prices).

2. I watch a lot of markets for parts and cars to get a feel for the way things are going. I also watch cars in Japan, Europe etc.. it is a hobby. Just like this site, like my restoration. I'm interested in all facets of these machines. I have owned an S30z since I was 17 (1998) and nobody else in my close circle of friends really understood my fascination with them. It is validating to see that views are changing and people are feeling nostalgic for these cars. When I was in School I used to get given a hard time for wanting an old 'Datsun'.

3. In particular I like to watch early S30z's. Since they are the very first of the breed and what has lead to the Nissan 370z today. They are coveted for a reason, they were simple, reliable, and a pure sporting experience. With each succession of the series in my opinion they started to loose what was great about the first examples. I think others feel the same way also, hence the reason early cars are attracting a lot of interest.

4. There are not many RHD S30z's around these days, so at some point people are going to consider importing an example from the US as the most viable option as opposed to trying to find 1 to restore here.

5. Would you be offended if I posted genuine PS30's for sale here also? How about HS30-H (Fairlady 240ZG's?) or perhaps a genuine 'works race car'? I think the community would be interested.

6. This thread is about cars for sale, either locally or globally. Do you ever visit Bring-A-Trailer? Most of those are US barn find type cars. But I still find it interesting myself and I'm sure their web-analytics indicates many others do also.

I thought the Cars For Sale classifieds on VicZCar forum were for local members who are selling their vehicles (Z-cars as it is a Z forum) and this post dedicated to local third party sites sales.

Some of the points you mentioned Gav are personal and out of context.

Please don't be offended, I just don't see the logic in posting International eBay sales to simply monitor global prices for personal intrigue and marketing statistics on a local member forum car sales thread, just as how Trading Post also do not see the logic in doing the same.

I can see both sides to the story, in one way i agree with Bozo, when i click on off topic cars when there is a new post, I'm expecting to see cars that are attainable to me, not international cars.

However i am also interested in seeing how the international markets for Zed's are compared to our own.

Perhaps a new sticky topic would be in order, to cater to the international cars that pop up for sale? would that not keep everyone happy?

I remember as a kid there was a show called Bozo the clown, seems he's still as funny as ever!

You can import a LHD ZED for about $1500, so it is a viable option and easily done - it also takes about 2 seconds, when looking for a car, to see that the steering wheel is on the 'wrong' bloody side , and you can move onto more productive things like listening to some doof doof- if it takes you longer than that you're a bloody clown! (the double entendre is yours for free Bozo - you're welcome!)

just my rant!
