No I'm just saying rust repair. Paint is more.

Your car in fairness is a high level restoration. I don't see many that good.

It will be interesting to see what both cars end up going for. It will provide an interesting perspective on the current market.

I was quoted 15K just to paint one of my old BM's recently with no rust and minor panel repairs. Did not include engine bay or door jams.

When my FD was stolen and damaged in Ireland, I sourced new panels and pretty much reassembled the car on my own. I was lucky in that I managed to find a silver door and front wing (so the inner door didn't need painting etc..). I bought a brand new front bumper from Mazda (was in that nice primer) and basically the car was stripped (trims taken off etc..) windscreens out (new rubbers) etc.. but the engine bay, interior colours were left alone.

It cost me close to 3,500 euro from memory, which was about $5,500 AUD at the time. The country was in the middle of a bad economic recession and so the panel beater was eager for the work and not many people were spending that kind of coin on restoring 90s performance cars at that time (most were trying to sell them for pennies).

I recall when I told someone what the paint job costs (young guy) he balked! You can get a paint job for 600 yo yo's he was convinced! I had seen 600 euro paint jobs I told him and I didn't want 1 of those.. 8 years on the paint on my car still looks great! It is not quite factory quality due to the curvature of an FD body shell. But I am particularly fussy and it still looks great to me and I'd say 98% of people would see no issues with it.

The point is my paint job was not entirely extensive and most panels were already true and straight - very little filler was needed. But painting an entire car properly is time consuming and not something you want done by someone who can't be bothered doing a good job.

Photos of my car and it's restoration process are in here.

Very rare Datsun 240k coupe, car is complete and restoration has started, has been stripped back to metal and all body filler removed, 90% of rust repairs carried out. Body in etch primer. Will need a new windscreen. All stainless trim is there, plus a spare good 99% rust free bonnet. Some new parts plus extras. Has good l24e engine and 5sp fitted. Has R30 front struts and brakes currently fitted and R30 power steering, original parts come with it. Comes with R30 r180 cv shaft rear diff assembly, original L24 and auto (ceased) and an L28 f54 block engine to suit rebuild. Price is not negotiable and no time wasters.. I've already held it for a month for a guy that keeps stuffing me around wanting more time to get cash together. I need it sold and moved asap. It is a very early build 73 model, the build no. Is under the first 2000. Requires a full restoration but if you know these cars you know they're hard to find not rusted to buggery and worth alot when finished. Especially if you go the GTR replica.. with genuine GTR's now fetching close to half a million dollars they are a solid investment. Price is NOT NEGOTIABLE and I will require a decent deposit to take the ad down and must be collected asap with the remainder paid in cash. No time wasters if you can't meet my purchase requirements don't bother contacting me especially if your an overseas buyer. I don't want to sell it but need the money to pay for some surgery so need a quick hassle free sale. You will need a tandem trailer and a decent size ute to collect everything in person. I'm not dealing with transport companies with the amount of spares and loose parts that come with it.

Yes I am located in Tasmania so do your own research on ferry costs. I am located about 20mins from the spirit terminal. The spare running gear is at another location half hour away but I can have this all with the car ready to collect. I have plenty more pictures of what's there and the rust repairs carried out to date I can email to genuinely interested people. Send me your contact no. and I will return your call. I'm not listing my number due to time wasters and scammers. Please be able to speak fluent english also or have someone with you that can.

Datsun 240Z, number 1501 off the production line, and has been a member of our family for over 20 years.

The car was first registered in Queensland.

We purchased the car from the original family owners and used it as an every day vehicle in Australia, until returning to New Zealand in 2004.

The engine has been reconditioned including pistons, bearings etc,(receipts available) and the bodywork has been extensively restored by a master craftsman in Tauranga. Pictorial C.D. available.

The car is a very early example with matching numbers, and is totally original and complete in every respect.

A great opportunity for someone to complete this restoration, and be the proud owner of a very collectable Japanese sports car.

Note, the original wheels and hubcaps are not with the car, and it does have a noise in the diff. The dash has the usual cracks.

Import paperwork is with the vehicle.

Questions and inspection welcomed.

Someone is eager beaver..

Would you consider $35k buy now?

A. Hey Andrew, a good offer, and in the ball park of what we are thinking, however, you should really view the vehicle and confirm that it meets your expectations. Feel free to give us a call if you wish, numbers are on the listing. Cheers, Jim. 11:05 am, Sun 18 Feb

eller's Comment

Remember the time before mod cons in cars? No automatic windows. No tape deck, no CD player, certainly no bluetooth. No air-conditioning. No fuel injection. Manual choke. That's the 70's calling YOU!

Reluctant sale. Original motor with exception of extractors added.

Interior in reasonable condition. Top of rear seat needs work.

Vehicle registration expires January 2019. This car is exceptional value at $29,000.

You know all those cool motorcycles getting around - some of them are really uncomfortable to ride...but man...they look good! This Dato looks cool too, it's a really comfortable ride, the motor sounds great and you won't get wet when it rains!

I wonder how difficult the flared 260z would be to register and stay legal. Is it engineered? A lot of headaches in ownership I'd wager. Still coolish though.

Looks like they had it registered though...

I don't know why everyone keeps carrying on about how hard that car would be to register. I bet that most cars on here that are modified are a) not engineered and b) do not comply with all the ADRs they need to.

Are you planning on taking it to K-mart tyre & auto to get a roadworthy?

With those wide flares and metre additional track, it might be a little more attractive to the popo ????‍♀️

They will just think it's some 1980s whale tail like Porsche, won't even look twice. I'd be more worried about ZG flares with the rivets :)

I would be more worried about the front ender it had before it got sold. Possibly hence the resale.....

Auction ends Saturday 03 Mar, 2018 01:16:01 AEDST)

(Edit; sold for $4,308)

"Datsun 240Z project located in country W.A. PLEASE NOTE.This vehicle is incomplete. I purchased the vehicle in its current condition from the previous owner who had had it with a panel beater for two years with no progress. Known to be missing parts are as listed:

Front and rear bumpers, bonnet, radiator, front screen and rear hatch glass, front seats, rear quarter windows.

What is there is the rolling body with all panels /sheet metal removed-most of which has been cadmium plated. Original factory mags. Engine, transmission and tail shaft. Brake booster and fluid lines. Engine bay relays. Key in ignition. Both ID tags proving matching numbers. Fuel tank. Replacement sill panels. New old stock dashmat. Correct speedo calibrated in MPH. Window regulators. Windscreen wiper motor and rods. Several boxes of assorted smaller parts.

The vehicle has been dry stored and is still covered in panel beaters dust. There is a relatively small amount of rust visible in the photos.
The vehicle was red in colour before it was stripped for panel work.

Cons... Not complete
Pros.... Matching numbers. A lot of the hard work already done. It's a two seater ZED

I can deliver from Perth to Melbourne for a negotiated fee if an interstate buyer wins the auction.

Please. If you are not seriously interested don't waste my time with trivia. It is what it is....a rare incomplete 240 Z legend and collectible. Thank you"

HS30-00890

"I have for sale an incomplete 1971 two seater 240z Datsun.

It is a bit rough but from what I see for sale well and truly restorable.
The car is in central Queensland I will help with loading freighting the car and may even deliver for a fee.
The car has pretty well all its mechanicals minus the engine.
Carbies and manifold are there but carbies will need restoring.
Gearbox and diff are still in the car.
Dash and all instruments are still in the car.
Left front guard, front seats and bumpers are missing
It has no side Glass and a leaky sunroof with a cracked Perspex panel so it has very rusty floors.
Has some rust in the plenum area because it was full of leaves.
Rust under the battery.
Fatigue crack in left front frame rail.
Left door pretty good rust wise.
Right door has bubbles in the skin but the frame looks ok in the door opening.
No rust that is clearly obvious in the roof.
A few pin holes along the rear of the hatch door.
Has had a swipe right hand front and the guard replaced with impact damage that is not obvious with the guard on still under the guard."

Anybody recognise strange-looking pillar emblem?

Wow, what a mess between the 2 of them. But the car in WA is a far better buy...

That badge is unique, looks like it had some kind of V8 conversion under the hood judging by the bonnet bulge... and engine is missing.

I wonder how many years HS30 00890 has been languishing in that field for?

It seems that the price increase of S30's is causing significant scraping of the bottom of the barrel.

I was thinking the same, just a shame it was left to rott forever and not salvaged earlier...

Just looking at that pillar emblem on HS30 - 00890, it looked familiar.  I have seen it as a centre piece in a hubcap on new cars. Try on 70s Nissans with steel rims and full size Hub caps. I think this one is probably from a 260 C but not sure what year.

Cheers
