1600dave Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 Yep, when I were a wee lad, 240K's were only good for their gearboxes, diffs and front struts / brakes. gav240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 2, 2015 Author Administrators Posted December 2, 2015 I recall a bloke telling me he used to buy them for a couple hundred dollars (Coupe's) because they were only valuable for scrap to junk yards. This was about 2006, he told me he couldn't find them anymore back then! 240K GL's - it only seems like yesterday that you couldn't give them away. How times and trends change - makes me feel old. I know the feeling, I still recall an FD RX-7 (Series 7) in red flying past me on the way to school (mum was driving a Tarago) and I had just bought my first 240z. It was an 80-90K car back then (1998) and I thought man that's a cool car. But I'll never be able to afford 1. Finally bought my FD in 2010, So I guess it works both ways in terms of affordability . In 20 years time people will be talking about Nissan Stagea wagon's being cheap or something... Quote

brent012 Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 I have a distant memory that a lot of 240K gear could be transplanted into 1600's ? I've thought about this recently, I wonder how often "future classics" get cut up for parts for other cars. Like I reckon the 90s Eunos Cosmo is an interesting car, but how many of them will be left with original 20b engines in a few years? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 2, 2015 Author Administrators Posted December 2, 2015 Like I reckon the 90s Eunos Cosmo is an interesting car, but how many of them will be left with original 20b engines in a few years? Not many very rare already to find a JC Cosmo, let alone 1 with a 20B in it. I saw 1 many moons ago at Albert Park, maybe around year 2000. Not seen another on the road here. There was 2 in Ireland that I knew of. A couple in the UK etc.. I don't think many exist outside of Japan in general. Quote
datoman Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 and it's gone...I almost thought it was a scam. I thought it was WA240Z's car. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13397-for-sale-working-240z-clocks/?p=158831 I can't fathom a car in that shape going so cheap.. oldmates260z Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 A proud new owner off to SA with it! Now that is a good buy for the money, well done look forward to see what you do with it. Looks like a great 240 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 4, 2015 Author Administrators Posted December 4, 2015 Yeah you did well, geez, did you call and tell him it's sold over the phone? It was only live for an hour or 2 before it got pulled. If it's as good as the photos you got a bargain. Quote
datoman Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Yep, sold over the phone. Didnt think there was to much risk given what was shown in the photos. I plan to keep her as she is. And doesn't need too much doing just some sill work, minor cosmetics etc. Will knock up a thread when i get started. Quote

Otherwise it looks like a pretty good deal. Update: price bumped up from $15,000 to $19,500. I guess he realised it was too cheap. Edited December 6, 2015 by daretobedifferent gav240z 1 Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 He's owned it since 1980. Its in pretty good condition. Paint is a bit dull, but basically no rust. I'd have bought it myself, if i were in a better financial position. gav240z 1 Quote

The only things missing are a grill (mine is damaged), hatch rubber and a part for the window winder. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 11, 2015 Author Administrators Posted December 11, 2015 Radovan's special is up again. Asking: $18,000.00 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/golden-grove/cars-vans-utes/eoi-1973-datsun-260z-2-seater/1097816438 I'm just chasing expressions of interest at this stage for my 1973 Datsun 260Z. This is a genuine 2 owner car with a very low 115,000 k's. Vehicle was rust proofed back in the 80's so is surprisingly rust free other than some surface rust at the bottom of door panels and a small patch on the petrol filler cap.Car was painted Corsa Rosso Red in the 80's and recently underwent a full engine bay respray and engine rebuild. Motor received a upgraded cam during the rebuild however is not currently running just to carbs not suiting cam (engine is still brand new and not yet run in)... I was going to put triple webers. This is an early Datsun 260z with the same body as a 240z / Nissan fairlady.I'm seeking at least $18000 or I will end up keeping it. Vehicle is currently registered in SA.See below link to previous owners story of the car.http://www.viczcar.com/member-rides/radovan-and-michelle-von-vinterberg’s-260-twinsOnly considering selling as I've run out of room to store it.Please ignore the dirty car in the last photo... Just wanted to show the fresh engine and engine bay. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted December 13, 2015 Author Administrators Posted December 13, 2015 It's a great original car, Lindsay sent me photos of it a week or so ago and we were discussing the rare red interior. A car like that doesn't come around often as you'll all know. Good to see the AM Hitachi radio, further confirming that is the radio our market received through all years. It appears to have the original Nichira exhaust and tip. http://jdm-car-parts.com/blogs/news/16149728-fact-about-factory-muffler-on-early-datsun-240z Quote

Classicman Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 What is the opinion on the price? Is $50k a reasonable asking price for this car? I remember taking a bit of flak on my asking price on the yellow car a few months back, and it was quite a bit less than this. Quote
