JDM-TOY Posted August 14, 2018 Author Posted August 14, 2018 So progress has been quite slow getting this setup complete. Sometimes information given by people is not the full story so you need to dig deep amd look for more information yourself. Had some clearance issues with the rear disc as it was not spinning freely due to it touching the caliper brackets. So machined the discs today shaving off 3 mils and now the disc is spinning freely. Front end is in exceps calipers. Rear end, the diff is in and control arms with new bushings. Hopefully Friday will put tye rear shocks up and get the car off the rotisserie. The car is so dusty man I was sneezing like I had hay hay fever lol Quote
JDM-TOY Posted August 17, 2018 Author Posted August 17, 2018 Finally managed to get the 240Z off the rotisserie. We have a issue were the front discs are a little too big and the SW front bracket is short for the R33 calipers so the two dont meet. The rear calipers fit good and there is good clearance for the wheel to spin freely. Will need to sort out possible smaller discs for the front. Anyone had this issue before? Quote
KatoKid Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Are you sure they are R33 GTR calipers and not R33 GTS-T? Different diameter discs so calipers will be different. JDM-TOY 1 Quote
HKSZ Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 Stewart told me he uses GTS-T r33 Looking at your photos the whole struts may need to be swapped left to right to clear steering arms? JDM-TOY 1 Quote

I will call Tim and speak with him on Monday and see what he says. I may of misunderstood Stewart. Stewart is in Alice Springs ATM not sure when he gets back. 39 minutes ago, HKSZ said: Stewart told me he uses GTS-T r33 Looking at your photos the whole struts may need to be swapped left to right to clear steering arms? @HKSZ Do the calipers sit on the front or the back, like the position of the calipers? Because they did look odd when I positioned the caliper on. But anyways worse case scenario I can sell these calipers as they are basically new and rebuilt the GTS T ones. My set up uses GTS-T calipers but its different to SW so check my signature for the link. Either way you will need to swap struts from side to side as the calipers have a leading and trailing design with different piston loaction: refer the link below: https://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/4654-kato-kids-bmw-m3-powered-71-240z/?page=30 Quote
ZED660 Posted August 18, 2018 Posted August 18, 2018 I have the SW setup with DBA rotors and R33 calipers and everything bolted up fine, I can't say if the calipers are GTS-T or not. Naybe you can tell from the pics? Quote

My rear calipers are like Aaron's not sure what the front ones are on his. Will need to go through his build thread. 38 minutes ago, ZED660 said: I have the SW setup with DBA rotors and R33 calipers and everything bolted up fine, I can't say if the calipers are GTS-T or not. Thanks guys, this is why I love this fourm. Great help Quote
JDM-TOY Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Hey Guys So a little stuff up on my end were I purchased R32 calipers rather than R33. Basically all I need to do is change the disc to the small 280mm ones for the R32 calipers and it should all bolt up. Small mistake causes headaches, should have paid attention... Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted August 20, 2018 Administrators Posted August 20, 2018 Sounds like what we refer to in computing as an ID-10-T error or PEBCAK. JDM-TOY and RAP260 2 Quote

JDM-TOY Posted August 22, 2018 Author Posted August 22, 2018 (edited) Hey @ZED660 what size discs do you have in that picture you put up? Edited August 22, 2018 by JDM-TOY Quote
ZED660 Posted August 22, 2018 Posted August 22, 2018 Hi, Approx 295mm, they are DBA 5040IS. Geoff JDM-TOY 1 Quote
JDM-TOY Posted August 23, 2018 Author Posted August 23, 2018 @ZED660 Thanks Geoff. I went out and got a pair of R33 GTS-T calipers today from Skyline spairs. Will do a test fit on Monday and see how I go. If it fits well I might just do what Dave @KatoKid said and just replace the calipers rather than changing discs. Cheers Guys Quote
260DET Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 Personally I'd go for the bigger rotors, 280mm dia is small by today's standards. Quote
ZED660 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 I checked the DBA site the rotors are 296mm, with decent pads (Hawk) I find the brakes more than enough for the track. But then I don't have a V8 auto! Quote

I had a few people tell me to replace the master cylinder with one that has a 1 inch boar, not sure if that is overkill on a mild cam L28 Quote
ZED660 Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 Yes, I have a Willwood 1" master cylinder with standard 260Z booster. I previously ran the standard master cylinder with the Toyota Hilux brakes and had no problems and good pedal, however when I fitted the SW kit I figured I would change the master cylinder at the same time. You might want to fit the brakes first and see what you think of the pedal. My Willwood came from Rocket Industries at Huntingwood. If you do change to one you have to make a small adjustment to the push rod length in the booster. The attached link gives instructions on what is required. http://forums.hybridz.org/topic/102754-a-one-inch-diameter-brake-master-cylinder-for-the-s30-z-cars/ Geoff Quote
KatoKid Posted August 24, 2018 Posted August 24, 2018 You will definitely need to got to a bigger master cylinder, just for fluid displacement. The standard 15/16th R33 master/booster works very well with good assistance, feel and travel. Quote
JDM-TOY Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 Hey guys I managed to rip out all the wiring behind the dash and take it to Justin from Prowire and I wanted to email him a wiring diagram that is the Aus or close to as pissible for him to reference. Just been searching the net and I came across this U.S website that has a few for early and later model Z's diagrams. http://nicoclub.com/archives/datsun-240z-260z-280z-280zx-wiring-diagrams.html I just wanted to know if the 73 diagram is accurate as I noticed its the U.S 73 has the rear marker lights and there might be a few other things that the U.S Z had that was not on the Aus Z that I dont know about. Also I took all the guages to AttSpeed Instruments to get checked and cleaned up due to the sandblasting dust and I noticed that the bulbs were not attacheind to the back of all the guages. I did notice only two on the wiring harness but all the others were missing. Is there anywhere I can purchase the bulb fittings to get Justin to wire them in? Happy wiring Datsun_240Z_Wiring_Diagram_1973.pdf Quote
