PeterAllen Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I ummed and ahhed about this for some time because I changed from an original idea of a full leather interior, a la road Ferrari, to a spartan interior, a la race Ferrari, after seeing real GTOs at Goodwood and Pebble Beach. I liked the Spartan look (and it was cheaper!) so I've decided to try using the car with no insulation nor sound deadening for 12 months. So far I've only been on 50km runs but I haven't found the noise or heat an issue - I do have Vintage Air installed but I haven't run it. The extractors a ceramic coated which I was told would make a big difference but apart from that I'll be starting from a raw base (except for 2 pak paint and anti-stone chipping underneath) and observing how it goes through a Summer and Winter before considering further options. WA240Z Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 (edited) Dynamat, have only done this in the foot well floors when I had the rails replaced, the rear area still has the original tar deadening. Then under all carpet Dynaliner stuck to the bottom, finally had the carpet loop edge bound to look original. This has given me a good result. The Vic supplier is in Dingly village. Installation note: work out how much you need, then add half the amount you need again - my mate worked it out, but we still ended up needing more... Quote

Why are you guys so keen to add so much weight to your car? Like i understand a bit around the transmission tunnel and foot well area as it can get quite hot. Agno Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 (edited) I don't have any insulation in my car and honestly it is not bad or loud. I would put a tiny amount in the footwell where the exhaust tucks up along the firewall and maybe on the sides of the transmission tunnel to reduce heat. Anywhere else in my opinion is overkill. I kinda agree with Agno and Peter Allen, one of the concerns I have with the BMW engine is that it will be too refined and lack any "character" so allowing a bit more NVH may enhance the experience....and as Jake points out its not a daily! Retro Z Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 I used fatmat rattletrap xtreme (the more expesive butyl one) throughout the entire car ontop of KBS killrust and spray deadener...car is still loud. Im running twice pipes with no resonators and triple carbs with open trumpets which probably doesnt help. Quote
