Ok my assumption was that someone had silk screened the face to reproduce the look. The little light globe condoms also made me think it wasn't an OEM production, but I've seen a couple of versions like you say. So I guess it's a gamble.

No, to try and pre-empt an answer from Alan here, lots of automotive manufacturers use components from various third party companies when making cars. For example my FD RX-7 cluster is made by Kanto Seiki who also did instruments on the S30Z series (and our washer bottles). I suspect Mitsubishi was into making components like this for a long while when Nissan decided to contract them for specialist parts and a lot of this stuff is very early 70s components.

 

The later Mitsubishi distributors (like these) I believe were found on later L28's in Japan such as Laurel's and S130Z's and other sedan's with L28's fitted and were much later cars (late 70s). I'm sure there is design similarities between them, but they are not directly related.

 

As a side note I like the later Mitsubishi Distributors because their engineering quality seems to be above the earlier style E12 model Hitachi ones you commonly find on L28's here (280zx) with their plastic ball bearing cages (as part of the vacuum advance assembly) that often break and then you fail to have vacuum advance work.

 

Remember early S30Z's used points based ignition systems and electronic was pretty exotic for the early 70s and since these were Sports Options parts carried a high premium in terms of price.

 

Alan has informed me that there is quite a few variations of these electronic sports option components, for example works rally cars had the white box with a military canon style plug, I've never seen these mind you...

Point of order: The cream/white Mitsubishi Ignitor was most often used by the Works team on their circuit race cars. The Works rally 240Zs on the other hand used a small CDI unit secreted under the dashboard (on the mount used by the 432s/432-Rs) as electronic ignition was technically illegal in the classes they most often ran in.

if you read through these, you amy find the answer to some of those questions about change points.

ie : Hatch Vents, may say up to #00500 or similar.

I know from modern experience that there are often running changes to a model and there is usually a clear change point based on VIN.

a modern example is Toyota 70 Series V8 Cruisers. Mid 2017 on have a very different set of gear ratios and it makes a HUGE difference to the how the truck drives - but to look at the truck there is no visable difference.

Yes these are helpful, I have the R version in hardcopy and digital formats.

So I often reference them. Which is why I tell people to look at these cars as an S30z series with incremental changes over time, rather than reference things as say "260z tail lamps", "260z flat tops" etc..

It's a "ura" Mach Wheel, which was a sports option part. Often seen in Z432-R's.

I was watching it last night when it was priced around $900 USD, I don't know if it actually sold at that price. Or if it's real or a clone/reproduction?

The hub kit with horn assembly is around $300 USD on it's own (reproduction).

It's possible it didn't meet reserve and I've noticed Yahoo! Auctions sometimes shows the price after auction as the reserve price (or some inflated buy it now price). However these have been changing hands many years ago for $3000 or so.. (originals) but reproductions have since become available.

I've got a black reproduction. Still need to get the Hub assembly and horn for it.

Do I spy a Weber carburettor?? 

I have heard these could be supplied through Nissan competition but could never confirm online with a parts catalogue or even better with part numbers... Was this the case?

Yes Webers were an optional part for S20 engined cars. I believe you would need a parts catalogue for the GTR's or PS30's to see it though. I was trying to find it last night.

@HS30-H can no doubt confirm as I believe he runs them on his S20 powered car

It looks very similar to my one. The only difference I can see is the horn retaining plate has two screw holes and not four.

RS Mach were only doing a limited 10 piece re-run of the ‘ura’. All sold out before we got ours.

So many great parts, so little money!

They were not generally listed in the actual Race/Sports Option catalogues, but Nissan Sports listed the 45DCOE-9 as a Race Option part for the S20 engine in their yellow 'Race & Rally Manual' preparation booklets. The 45DCOE-9 had the part number 16010-A0220 and could be ordered through one of the Nissan Sports-affiliated dealerships in Japan. Apparently the characteristics of the Weber accelerator pump system (the rod-operated downward-pushing piston) was favoured for the S20 in tuned form. Nissan's works teams used them on their race cars just before they went to sliding throttle mechanical injection. 

I don't think I've ever seen Webers listed by Nissan for the L6-engined cars.
