It can be, because you can easily back probe the plug at the indicator stalk and check for power, while using any clean metal part of the frame as earth. More than likely you will end up finding that 95% of your electrical problems will end up being corroded and bad earth connections, or just bad connections. Id also invest in a $100 dremmel from bunnings with a little wire wheel to help buff up all your eyelet earth connections, and the frame where they bolt to etc. Do you know how to use a multimeter? not being a jack ass its just i know mechanics who have asked me how to use one in the past....... Your most invaluable tool however, will be to download the work shop manual for your car, they are floating about the internet to download in PDF format. The electrical diagrams are extremely easy to read, the indicator circuit for example will have its own diagram with colour codes and is easy to follow. You can see on paper where to start, and where to continue from etc etc, hardest part will be following harnesses to find plugs etc.... hang on ill try and open up my one and print screen a section.... Great day today! We got home and i just crashed on the bed, i only just woke up now! It was good to catch up with some old faces, and meet some new ones, and the wife had a good time too. Don't get me wrong, because i LOVE your car, and i plan to run flares and pumped out tyres on my bus when its finally complete too. Your car is "phat" yet still functional, its doesn't scrape on a leaf as you drive down the road, it doesn't have ridiculous camber. And you do all the work properly, you don't cut corners with your build and that's what i like. There is a difference between your car and the many i have seen, local (and im not targeting only zeds, but many older jap imports) where they neglect to fix the rust, they only wish to slam it and run the widest wheels they can stuff under their guards. They don't have the passion that we have, the love that comes with actually restoring a car, bringing it back to life better than it was when it left the show room. To finish and say "look what i created with my two hands" To these new generation of kids, i feel their car is just a accessory, who cares how it handles, or how safe it is, or that its riddled with rust, as long as it looks good. Here is what really ruffles my feathers: cars like this which get ALOT of media and press attention, and everyone says how great it is, but all the owner did was bog it and paint and slam it. Ive seen close up photo's of this car at a show and all the dog leg, bottom door and sil are bubbling up. you can see in both pictures the doors, and ive seen other angles where there is ripples down the whole car. I just have more respect when i can see the effort someone has put into their car to make it 100%. To me the car above, is just a half arsed job. YES, and this is where it all stems from for me. Ive owned Silvia's for the last 12 years, where back then, the bogan chariot of choice was a VN commodore, a time when i paid 16k for a SR20 Turbo S13, where all the inter cooler piping and exhaust had to be custom made, GKTECH didn't exist back then! And now ive seen the cars devalue to absolutely nothing. exactly like you said, every P plater has them now, The scene has really changed over the last decade. When i went to my first silvia meet, it was all about clean cars and cruises, there was no drifting, big power was anything over 200kw at the wheels. I Dont know.... Rudolf.

My theory is as follows: The majority of said classic car/muscle car owners that drive to the cafe/dinner local shows are baby boomers. Baby boomers have the mentality of "Datsuns" as garbage, as they grew up with their torana's and faclon GT's and movies like running on empty. Its our newer generation, and gen Y, thats starting to get into the Datsuns, as for most, they were OUR first cars, which were usually rust bucket $500 throw aways, now we are reaching our mid 30's etc we are in a time in our lives when we can afford to buy these cars and restore them. The majority of kids these days cant afford our Datsuns as they are going up in price, that and top it off with they are too much work. Today's YOLO Flatbrim, Hardparked and "Stanced" kids dont have the dedication/skills/knowledge or patience to restore a car properly. To them its all about getting the twitter likes and instegram follows, if they do buy a classic car, they dont fix the rust, they slam it on stupid wheels fit a JDM YO! sticker on it and all the other retards think its the best thing since sliced bread. i know ive gone off on another tangent here.....but you get the idea.... thanks for the kind words gents, yes this extension has really slowed things down, but it will be worth it in the long run, and scoot, i did sigh in relief when the nose was finished, especially when i welded back on the grill brackets, then mounted the bonnet and grill and everything still lined up about 95% straight. But unfortunately now what i have noticed is my bonnet hinge or pins must be worn, as the bonnet sits high at the front of the car, and when i lean on the front of the bonet, it will compress back to where it should sit. Don't know what i can do about that one yet. And yeah i struggle to find time George, i have had to sacrifice in other area's, before this extension started i was going to the gym for 2 hours every afternoon, but now doing 12 hour days to help pay this off, the gym has been canned, id rather try and squeeze in a extra hour in the garage, but i can tell im burning myself out real real quick. but anyway... time for a.... UPDATE 20.10.14 -- attacking the doglegs and sil panel! So even though i am proud of the repairs i did in the nose, the Dog legs have been intimidating me since i got the dam car, with their bubbled fresh paint, hiding god knows what. I decided to kill them... kill them with an angle grinder and sanding disk..... and this is what what revealed on the drivers side: hrmm... time to bust out the cut off disk, once i had removed the panel i saw what lied beneath.... more rust, which deflated me for a hour or two: then i snapped out of it, and got back to cutting: and the last month and a half i spent maybe half hour each day trying to make a patch panel for the inner sil, with no real template to work off, as the rusted section was pretty mangled... but after lots of trial and effort i came up with this: which once welded in looked like this: and finally once hit with some KBS rust seal and weld through primer, this is where i am up to: Rudolf.

Great Day, it was good to meet you Paul, and put another face to a name, i see you were there Gav, i didn't think i had your number, but now i'm looking at my phone i do have it from the last datsun day! No big problem, i will be able to catch up with everyone else next weekend. Spotted Yo-Yo's car, asked some of your club members if the owner of the zed was around but no help, your car looks great in the flesh, im very impressed! Didn't take many photo's but i did snap this abomination: and i did get to meet Smokey Nagata!!!!! it was funny, everyone was crowded around the Garage trying to see Tarzan Yamada, No one even blinked at Smokey!! And i had to quickly Google some Japanese to try and ask for a photo, when he came near i screamed Nagata san! Shashin? He turned around and gave me an impressed look and had a photo with me.... and i looked like a f**king retard!!! guess that happens when you meet your idol/hero's!!! Awesome awesome day!!!! UPDATE 13.10.14 - MORE RUST REPAIRS, IM NOT DEFEATED YET! Wow time really flies, and its been a few months since my last update! Its safe to say life has taken over and work in the garage has slowed down considerably over the last month or two, but not to a grinding halt which is good. Over the last few months i struggled to get 2 to 3 hours a week to work on the car, i really can say i didn't have enough hours in the day, mainly due to me building an extension on the house, which is also a work in progress: but in that time i did manage to finish the rust repairs in the nose of the car, and i also got stuck into the drivers side dog leg. Here are some photos: Hit with some weld through primer and KBS rust seal: Once again thanks to scoota for making me the outer panel which i welded in: And then hit with some primer: a photo of the final repairs on the nose with the workshop supervisor overseeing my work: I also got cracking on the drivers dog leg, it also rusted through the inner sil panel, which ive already cut the cancer out of and replaced, but those photo's are for another day Rudolf.

I agree 100%, and to anyone else that runs into me or see's the car, they would not know the difference between a 2 seater and a 2+2, heck even when i bought mine, the old boy had a mixed bag of around 12 zeds in his shed, i had the pick of any of them, and even then i couldn't pick the difference between them, i didn't even notice the difference in shapes when i first was looking at them. Before i pulled it off the road to rebuild, even though it was a piece of 40 year old un restored garbage that died every time i stopped at lights, i tried to drive it at least twice a week to work. Everyone knew how unreliable it was, so it made a good reason to for being late, or not showing up for work, id just have to say "car broke on the way!" Im trying to chip away at it for at least 1 hour per day, but its slowed down quite abit over the last few months, doing a house extension AND planning a wedding takes up alot of time for me :-\ I can't fathom how people can have 3-4 project cars, i do have the drive to work on mine, but I'll defiantly be having a good few years break before i tackle another project. Oh and i plan to drive it 1-2x per week when its done. Rudolf.

I went to a mates bucks party recently, we went camping and the groom's father in-law brought 2 of his mates, so there were 3 50 something year old yobo's there (this is going somewhere i promise)........ One of them in his drunken stupor was proclaiming to the campfire his favorite movie, one that he sometimes watches a few times in one day, a true classic that won "awards" in Australia for its genius. His description of the movie was slightly off puting, however when i got home, curiosity got the best of me and i had to download and watch it.... i wish i didn't..... DONT bother watching Bad Boy Bubby, Its not funny, not entertaining, doesn't make sense, i persevered through it to the end only to say that i did.
