That's a fair price considering i dare say near half the price would be shipping due to size, or does it go on weight? my fujitsubo exhaust was about $300 in postage alone.... Your car is one of my favorite cars on here, love me some JDM style tuning, and when i think it cant look any better... well, i stand corrected! Meisters look real fat on it. Me Rikey! Rudolf.

Did you go through jesse streeter for it? Rudolf.

nope even worse, every time its happened Ive been stopped in traffic, then the retard behind me has stopped, but doesn't grasp the concept to only accelerate when the traffic in front of you has started moving. Maybe i should do the Datsun fluorescent safety yellow when it comes around to painting it? Rudolf.

This! Ive been rear ended 5 times in my S15 in the last 6 years. Its been fixed to new each time, and lucky parts and or a replacement car is readily available, but its made me get over the car real fast. Never mind it can run the quarter mile in 12 seconds, and everyone else loves it, i think if you drive it everyday, it eventually looses what makes it "special" Get a new reliable car for a daily driver, and save the car you "love" for a weekend car. cant remember if you told me if your running aftermarket rims or not? If they did clean and remove the wheels, if you have aftermarket rims, could it be possible that a hub centric spacer fell out? Rudolf. -
A few weeks ago Motor trend did an interview with Nissan exec Andy Palmer, who hinted of 1 or possibly 2 new models to be unveiled at Tokyo Motor show 2013. Speaking to Motor Trend's Nate Martinez, Palmer said, "Do we have any competitors [in the small, rear-drive coupe segment]? Are you talking about the Subaru [bRZ]? It was a car designed for a 50-year-old. It's for a midlife crisis. That's not what we do." Strong words, but what followed was even better. "Are you coming to the Tokyo Motor Show? You'll see the answer to the midlife crisis. Except it won't be for the midlife crisis." So, if you were wondering whether Nissan is working on a competitor to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, the answer seems to be a resounding "yes." Now rumors were spreading of possibly a new Silvia, or a new Z, but it seems they have re made a Datsun 510 instead!!! Or err... a IDx? So what are all your thoughts on this new "concept" from Nissan? Personally, I like the look of the nismo model, however i don't think it will be a true competitor for the BRZ / FT86. The FT86 really hit the nail on the head to compliment the legendary hachi roku. Now putting the GTR aside, which is unattainable to most people, The FT86 is the only real budget performance car out of a Japanese maker in a long time, a real kick back to the glory days of the 90's. The designers say that they are making this car to try and appeal to the new generation of young people, who arn't interested in cars according to them. And they have listened to everyone's opinions with an open mind. I Don't know who they have been listening to, but sure as hell isn't EVERYONE who is crying for a S16, or some budget performance car to take on the FT86. The problem i foresee is that Nissan cant make a budget sports car more powerful, or close to their premium range of the 370z, because then it would eat into profits of that lineup. Why spend 60k on a 370z when i can buy a IDx for 35k and it performs the same? So i can see this having a weak sauce 1.6L engine, and perhaps for the "nismo" version, the turbo motor out of the new SSS pulsar. which will be expensive and really take it out of the econo sports car bracket. Much like STI models when it comes to Subaru. It will be interesting to see where Nissan goes with this, i foresee it going downhill and end up being boring and a failure like the Nissan Juke. Rudolf.

Hey mate, best chance is to sell your car privately, and then look for your dream zed afterwards. The problem you have is the zeds are getting harder to find, and are only going up in value, while your skyline is depreciating in value, anyone can import one it pretty easily, and they are as common as a holden now. I know a few of us, myself included, who have jap imports for their daily drivers, and our zeds are our project cars. Due to that i'm afraid nobody will be willing to straight swap you a zed for your R34. Sell your Skyline, then search for your Zed, when you find one you like, post it up here and perhaps someone with experience can help you out with inspecting it or give you advice. Rudolf.

yeah that 510 engine bay looks heaps nice. The rocker cover was just painted, and as for the engine bay wires, i like them over the rocker cover, its growing on me. I do like the clear hose for the breather, and yeah that's next on the list of things to do. Hows things going getting your Rx7 in? Rudolf. -

Its Stainless Steel. If i could go back and do it again, id use aluminum. The straight pipe was easy enough to get, i used a pipe bender to initially bend the pipe, its 3/4 pipe. However, at the bend it squashes it down. Now i was able to find locally a 3/4 hose barb fitting in stainless, but i could not for the life of me find a hose barb end fitting in 5/8th or 16mm. (for the firewall side to match heater hoses). I literally spent maybe 2 whole Saturdays driving all across Sydney to all the different metal places and ringing every shop i could to try and find parts. I went to Midway metals, specialist in stainless, no one has 5/8th hose barb fittings. I ended up buying a straight piece of 5/8 stainless, which fit neatly inside the 3/4 pipe, welded it on as a reducer, left a longer piece, and just welded some dags on the tip to form a lip. If you want to go down this path, use alloy, as aeroflow, proflow all their gear is aluminum and easy to get hose barb fittings in any sizes you want. Rudolf. -

^^^ Haha ive already crossed that line, a long long time ago. See i was just going to get the carbs on the car running, mount everything where i wanted it to be, enjoy it for a year or so, then strip it for the rebuild. It went pear shaped when i showed the headers to the spray painter at work.... he said "you cant throw those beautiful headers on that old engine, at least paint the block...... then hey, the rocker cover, well the alternator looks old, lets rebuild it and also the starter motor.... and yeah.... it went down hill from there ahahhaha. Trust me, the engine bay is killing me, but where do i stop? if i pull the motor and box to strip and spray the engine bay, might as well do the whole car in one hit right? I at least want to get it to all datsun day this time next year. Drive her in, show her off, go home and start the rebuild, i just love driving the car so much i don't want to tear her down yet. Now that car, the body made me want to have a tetanus shot just from looking at it. It was a 510 import, that i think the guy pulled out of the swamps of Dagobah! Body was rotten, interior had been home to a family of cats for god knows how long, but, hey, he started with the engine bay, and thats what it looked like on the day. I'm umming and ahing about either doing the engine bay body colour, or the grey, and if i do it body colour, what colour to paint the car? purple or orange? so until i decide, might aswell carry on and get it all running. Rudolf. -

im surprised that hasn't sold by now, i saw that somewhere a few weeks ago, might have been on here, it would cost double that to build one to those specs. Rudolf. -
I guess the best bet will be choose a engine builder and talk to them first. yes its alloy, currently its 16mm thick and is a rectangle block so hopefully it wont warp much when the runners are welded on. After that is done, ill cut out the template for where the exhaust will sit, and get it milled flat down to 12mm to suit the headers flange, so i don't need stepped washers for the studs that share ports. Rudolf
-
I'm not necessarily going 37mm, it was only an example to explain what im trying to do. I am not planning to port the head myself, especially the spare L28. I wont touch that motor. All i plan to do is match the L26's stock ports to my inlet manifold, which will be made to suit the spare engine. Dat2kman- Good idea, the gasket will work, machine the gasket to match the L28 when it is built, and bolt it up to the inlet manifold and use it as a template. Rudolf.
-
I have a spare L28 that i plan on sending off to get rebuilt one day not anytime soon, I would like the motor to be stroked and i hope to have head work done. I have the standard L26 in the car, and im in the process of fitting Gareth's old blackbird carb set up to it. I am making a custom 1 piece manifold for it. I know it might be hard to give a exact figure, and i know i should really choose and engine builder and ask what their specs are, but when having a head ported, what is the typical size they open up the inlet ports to? standard they are 35mm. I need to know, as i plan on match porting this manifold to the new motor, but also using it on my stock L26. Here is what my flange looks like on the spare L28 now: as you can see, i already need to smooth out the edges in a few places. Currently the inlet port on the flange is drilled to match the factory head at 35mm. My plan is: If typically the ports are enlarged to 37mm (for example) , i will open up the holes to 37mm on the flange, bolt it to the L28, and scribe the new port sizes into the head. Then i will bolt the flange to the stock L26 engine in the car, and i will match port the head of the stock motor, only to make a smooth transition from the 37mm inlet manifold to the 35mm inlet port. so i don't have big right angles to cause turbulence in the head. This way i can at least have my carbs working on the standard engine until i get my spare motor built. I am trying to work this out now, as when i weld the runners to the flange, i wont have any way to do it. Rudolf.

quick question regarding the sand blasting blasting, what type of respirator are you using? When i blasted a few bits and pieces in the backyard with a supercheap blaster and their blackridge grit, i was really struggling to breathe using a SAS duel cartridge respirator. I only did it once, and i want to blast again, because using a dremel with wire wheel takes forever to clean small pulley's and alternator housings etc. Rudolf. -
It was a good day, and great to finally put a face to some names! I got a few snaps, that pale yellow 510 import was by far my favorite car at the show, that thing was gorgeous. Did you see NOTEVN rip hellies in the middle of the road when he left? what a toss bag. In saying that, i lit up 2nd and third in the silvia as i peeled out.... but i didnt do bloody doughnuts in the middle of a 3 lane road! How about this thing, a WRX motor in a 1600!!!! just doesn't look right to me..... Oh the sunroofs we just LOVE! I have a few more, ill upload them later on Rudolf.

So i was looking in Hobbyco yesterday when i stumbled across a 240z drift car! if i can score this for Christmas then i might have a zed on the road.... *cough* in 1/10th scale! I don't know what i'm looking at with these things, but i saw ball bearing something and LED working lights. Seems to be a Drift car chassis. O well i know what im asking for Christmas from the wife!!! Rudolf.

Hey Gav, good to see your back in Aus! I don't really have anything inspirational to contribute, as my man cave is nothing special, but alas here it is: I read somewhere you posted that your in the Concord area, not too far away from me, i'm in Fairfield. You should come down to all Datsun Day next Sunday, (3rd of Nov) At The Prospect Hotel. My car wont be ready, but ill be there supporting a friend who just finished his 1200 ute that was 6 years in the build. Would be nice to finally meet some of the guys from the forums! especially since the NSW / Sydney section is pretty much non existent! Rudolf.

UPDATE 25/10/13 = Painted rocker cover & fuel system? So Ive been busy lately trying to sort out my fuel system. Ive decided to make use of the factory hard lines running under the car, but to modify them. I Plan on Cutting the hard pipes just before the firewall, and got my Pirtek sub contractor at work to make me some Olive compression fittings with AN6 fitting on the end, allowing me to continue my fuel lines as braided line either proflow or aeroflow. I also got myself a Aeromotive Fuel pressure regulator, return style and low PSI to feed my bike carbs, which i plan on mounting on the firewall The painter at work was nice enough to paint my rocker cover for me, its a colour from a old Honda, and here it is fitted with my nice new Leads: Looks like a new motor now! hahah still blows smoke like a chimney, which i suspect is old valve stem seals, ill attack that once the engine is back up and running with my carbs. Rudolf.
