  1. Welcome, i agree with starting a build thread and journal. I have found that there are people on here who can make the necessary rust repair panels for you for a quite reasonable amount too, and that includes specific zed rust area's where you cant actually buy panels for at a shop, for example the dog legs or inner nose section where the bonnet bolts to. Rudolf.
  2. I didn't know why you would say such a mean thing! then i looked at this "positivetennis" and his previous topics he has created... well all of them.... going all the way back to 2012...... wow... i get it.... dude...... stop asking if x is better than y, if we would rather a or b.... and go buy a car, then deal with it once you own something!!!! I have also just decided that this thread will now be about goats: Proceed..... Rudolf.
  3. Anything related to 2+2 on there states none in stock and non availability, Im having a real real hard time trying to source a rubber/ weather strip kit for my 2+2, i literally cant find anyone who has stock anywhere in the world, and I'm not the only one, Ive Pm'd other members and they have the same issues. To top it all off, there are 2 different types of rear quarter windows on a 2+2, both requiring different parts, and i guarantee if you do find one ever, luck would have it that you receive the wrong one. Rudolf.
  4. hey look that same douche bag from last week re listed his car! quick someone buy it before the wind picks up and the whole car just blows away in a cloud of rust/dust http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/gosford/cars-vans-utes/1974-datsun-260z-coupe/1065650660 Rudolf.
  5. That's a complete steal for that price, considering only paid a few thousand less for mine and it needs a complete restoration. Really nice looking car! Rudolf.
  6. i thought that car looked familiar.... It was for sale/sold maybe 1 to 2 years ago. I remember because it was priced around 8k (what i paid for mine) and it came up for sale about 2 weeks after i bought my car. If it was only a fortnight earlier, or i had held off on my car, i would have bought it. *edit* here we go, i saved one of the photo's from the old owners ad so i could see how the rear spoiler fitted: Dam the 2+2's have skyrocketed in the last year, from being worth 8 to now 15k, with added rust! Seems he just wanted to flip it. meh, good luck to him. Rudolf.
  7. I can see both sides to the story, in one way i agree with Bozo, when i click on off topic cars when there is a new post, I'm expecting to see cars that are attainable to me, not international cars. However i am also interested in seeing how the international markets for Zed's are compared to our own. Perhaps a new sticky topic would be in order, to cater to the international cars that pop up for sale? would that not keep everyone happy? Rudolf.
  8. what you are talking about is a brumby disc or strip it disc, It looks more like seaweed on a grinding disc. It cuts through bog and paint but doesn't grind away any metal. Like shown...from Bunnings: That first rear hatch photo looks like my passenger side dog leg which i attacked on Sunday with said Brumby disc, nearly lost the grinder in it, kept getting deeper and deeper: Rudolf.
  9. 250 GTO replica in Vic for 25k? http://www.justauto.com.au/justcars/cars-for-sale/1975-DATSUN-260Z-SPORTS-ATW3563537?backurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.justauto.com.au%2Fjustcars%2Fsearch%3Fcurrent_page%3D1%26urlname%3D%26search_location_state%3D%26search_vehicle_type%3DCAR%26search_type_make%3DDATSUN%26search_type_model%3DDATSUN_260Z%26search_details_earliest_year%3D%26search_details_latest_year%3D%26search_details_lowest_price%3D%26search_details_highest_price%3D%26condition_search%3D%26uselistview%3Dfalse%26keywords%3DWhat%2Bare%2Byou%2Blooking%2Bfor%253F&backtext=Results wow what a ridiculously long URL.... Rudolf.
  10. So i had some rust in the quater window, and i cut out the offending area, made a patch, and started to weld it in. However, while welding i blew through near the edge, and I've found that the whole edge/corner of the quarter window is lead filled, and i cant weld to it, i didn't realize at first and it just blew a decent sized hole. I also prodded the whole area were the roof line meets the quarter with a screw driver, i was just tapping it gently and its soft, it seems the whole area is lead filled. Would this have been done from factory, or is it an old school repair? i dont know how i can fix this area anymore, will i have to dig out all the lead and see what im left with, replacing it with metal? Ive never done lead loading, and i know its not good for your health, i probably already got lead poisoning from when the welder burnt through the corner and i was breathing all the fumes.... great.... has anyone had this issues with their zeds? any help will be appreciated Rudolf.
  11. Just watched it... "meh" trust me it could have been ALOT worse than that. The rims looked to be Enkei classic 'comp' wheels. The first set was the same, just in a better offset. They arn't too bad. The exhaust was 'meh'. i think it would have looked better with some tips on it, and at least the body kit was nice enough. The toilet roll thing was a crock of shiver, when they showed it on the car, you could see the blue oil filter screwed into the block in the background. Getting a oil filter relocation kit is a pain in the rear end and expensive, why go to all that trouble instead of buying a new filter, total bollocks. Do you want to know how it could have been worse, there was a show called car warriors, along time ago.... it is by far the worst show ever put on television, they did a Datsun 240z, i cant find the full episode on youtube, but i did find a snippet of the episode. Im sure you can torrent it somewhere if you really want to. Anyway... here you go look how this 240z got butchered: Rudolf.
  12. its ok, im torrenting it at 3.7kb/s from one seeder...... it will take 9 hours to download..... so tomorrow ill be happy chappy!! Rudolf.
  13. The god dam video is private Gav! you cant do that to us!!! how will i watch it now!!! Rudolf.
  14. I love hare and forbes, the one in north Parramatta is only a 10 minute drive from me, and im like a kid in a candy store there because everything is pretty reasonably priced! I actually was there on saturday buying a 10mm pneumatic finger sander! this one actually! http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/A066 I saw the sandblasting cabinet too, and was temped, i was also tempted by the pedestal drill and the bench grinder with attached belt sander. Rudolf.
  15. I know this was also directed at my comments. Firstly, i said that i personally don't think much of the 350z and 370z, just my humble opinion with my experiences with them. I raced a few 350z's at WSID back in the day when i had a SR20 Turbo S13 (about 8 years ago) and i beat them. I just had 150kw at the wheels too ( boost, fuel pump, intercooler.) I also raced a few at marulan, at oran park and at Eastern creek, and i was faster than them too (once again, around 6-8 years ago) I understand that this is no real measure to compare performance, and im well aware that there are ALOT of other variables regarding this (modifications, driver experience etc etc) but these were just MY experiences racing against 350z's. And in my head i would think (a new 40-60k car cant keep up with my lightly modded 16 year old car with 160 thousand on the clock). Once again, not a fair comparison i know, but that opinion has kind of stuck with me since then, even though Ive never driven or raced a 370z, i guess for me, mentally its guilt by association due my my experiences with the 350z. Even modern cars aren't like that. I bought my S15 200sx stock standard 7-8 years ago, and im the first to admit it was quite pathetic in the performance department straight off the showroom floor. Ill admit im wrong in thinking here, but its just how i am. No ive never been in one, however, i never said it was crap. I acknowledge the car for what it is, and the performance it has. I just dont like how it was built to cater to the US market, i understand that it must be done, as they are a HUGE market for them, and rightly so, they made a killing. Its just stupid me being me, in my head thinking that Nissan is a sell out. I know its wrong to think like that, and i don't know what would have made the R35 acceptable in my eyes, It might be because they went to a larger displacement engine and made it a V instead of inline, makes me feel its all to cater to the US. That they should have stayed true to honor their heritage, and kept i dont know, maybe a 4th generation RB26, who knows, just how i think, i cant help it. Actually i know with emissions rules and regs it probably would have been impossible to re- engineer the RB26... Rudolf.
  16. Uh the 200sx did pretty good, especially the S15, it won car of the year in 2002 in Australia at least.... Its only competition was the wrx, and it destroyed it. But since then.... not so much, i personally don't think much of the 350z or the 370z. As for the R35, No bueno, it was made for the American market.... Rudolf.
  17. UPDATE: 8.11.14- Drivers Dogleg finished Firstly a big thanks to Locky for making me the dog leg panels, and fast turn around too! so i got to hacking away at them and welded in my patch: however, before i had welded in that patch, i had noticed where the quater panel folds over into the door jamb, there looked to be abit of rust on the top section, which is understandable, as water would pool there off the door: so i got to cutting: and this was what i needed to make: which looked abit like this when done: welded in and hit with some primer: then formed a new outer lip and plug welded that in place onto the door sil: And the finished product!!!! PHEW! it turned out better than i expected!!!! Now all thats left is the passenger side dog leg, and ill probably drop all the suspension, put it on the rotissarie thats rusting away in the back yard, and send the car off to be sandblasted. yeah i did and it all looked pretty immaculate. I thought these cars were bare metal under all the panels, but mine seems to have atleast some undercoating on all the panels, inside the sil, everywhere. Rudolf.
  18. Im down! Rudolf.
  19. Awesome!!!!!! I much prefer the boxy shape of the Hako to the S30 to be honest, probably why Ive owned 3 S13 Silvia's in the past instead of the 180sx. Id own a Hako over my zed any day of the week if i could afford it. Its good you have it now, i foresee the price of these things blowing WAAYYYYY out of proportion soon, and its already started. I first discovered them when Kevin bought one, and i followed his build over on JNC since the start. Back then I would troll through J-spec and import monster etc and you could get a 2000GT for about 25-30k... In a few short years, now they are all around the 40k mark. I'm positive that due to Alot of them going to America over the last few years has also drove up the price. I am truly Jealous!! Who did you import it through? and were there any other ones you considered as possible candidates? maybe others you bid on but lost? Rudolf.
  20. I'm not sure if this has been posted in here, or perhaps even i posted it, cant remember but for those who haven't seen the channel: A father and son restoring a zed, with the mother doing 2-5 minute commentary video's along the way, very cool to see it from mums perspective!! ALOT of watching here, they have 48 video's so far http://www.youtube.com/user/l1ndam1ll3r Rudolf.
  21. Good! i missed you at WTAC so it will be good to finally meet you in person mang! Rudolf.
  22. Just a friendly reminder that Datsun Day is on tomorrow at Prospect Hotel. Usually a good event, plenty of nice cars to see! Rudolf.
  23. a benefit of a test light is you can use it to test the flasher can also... Rudolf.
  24. forget about were to find and trace earth for now, The most important thing is to trace Battery power from the battery, through all connectors, through the indicator stalk all the way up to the light globes. During this whole time, id be earthing the multimeter to ground on chassis, and only using the positive probe to check for power... For example, you say that most of the other electrics work, so we know your getting battery power to all our ignition switches. Your indicators work on accessories (or reds) meaning you have to have the key on the first click to get everything to power on, much like your radio, this is to make sure you don't leave your indicators on or radio on overnight when you turn off the car and drain the battery, thats why when you remove the ignition key, it cuts power to all those "accessories" Firstly id be checking the following, at the indicator switch, there will be a plug where the switch plugs into the wire loom, you should be able to get the positive lead in the back, and probe the wires without disconnecting the plug. with the multimeter earthed to ground, you should be able to flick the indicator one way, and get power, then off, then the other way will make power go down the other wire. So according to that manual, white wire goes into the indicator switch, this would be your power in, it comes from the flasher unit, maybe that is broken, or disconnected, or a bad connection, and you are not getting power out of it. then from flasher unit, the wire going into the flasher unit is green, this is the input to it, if you followed that line/wire back on the diagram, it would lead to the fuse box, so maybe a fuse is blown? this is all things to check. I have to head out now... ill try and go abit more in depth later on... Rudi.
  25. The wife names all my cars... The S15 is "Drifty" (because of the plates) and her Suzuki is "Swifty" She also named the zed "Daisy" because well.... i don't really know.... "it looks like a Daisy" she said.... Rudolf.
