I'm in a similar situation.... Ive been thinking about selling my S15, it took me 6 years to build, and 20k in mods at least, but its finally perfect, and since i finished the build 2 years ago i haven't touched it. I just drive it every day.... But the enjoyment is slowly dying. I want something more practical, so i am thinking of getting a Forrester XT, and in the back of my mind, with the spare change id have, im wanting to buy another S13 just so i don't loose a silvia. See my first car was a S13, and my second, and my third... well lets say ive owned nothing but Silvia's.... So Im wanting to go from a Perfect daily with 250kw at the wheels, which i still get 450km's to a tank of fuel mind you, to a 25 year old drifted, beat up, abused, thrashed rust bucket, which is the exact same car except 100x worse, and a forester "daily" which i know id end up doing a full STI running gear conversion to, and bringing it to the same level as my S15 is now! Id have 3 cars and be driving my mums Holden Barina to work! And i know ill buy the S13, and it will break, and rattle, and catch on fire, and be a massive turd, and ill be angry and want to sell it and upgrade to a "newer car".... which is EXACTLY what i did when i sold my last S13 and bought the S15! (which was going to be left stock! ) What can i say? I guess its just that nostalgic feeling, but what else? Now I'm all grown up, married, have a house, bills to pay, responsibilities, work related stress, like every other adult. I guess for me getting another S13 is my attempt to go back, back to a time when i was 17, with no Mrs, care free, the wind blowing in my hair, not a stress in the world. That's what a S13 represents to me, my youth, which im sure everyone sometimes wants desperately back! and Im sure for you, that's your Gazelle, or your First zed Gav! Its a tough call for you, is your Zed finished? are you happy with it? can you put all your attention into the S12? or will you be tinkering with 2, 3 cars at once? and not really getting any progress done because your focus is always shifting?

looks good to me, one thing though, id put a drain hole in the bottom left corner at the lowest point. If you look at Gav's link, the panel Scoota made, has a drainage spout on the bottom corner. Just drill a 6mm hole there or something along those lines. Rudi.

hey on the bright side at least it died only 50kms from Melbourne, and not 4 hours away! Rubbed back and primer in some patches, i don't like the sound of that personally. If you are to respray it, make sure you fix all the rust beforehand, better now, do it once, do it right! looking forward to the build! Rudi.

If i had room for it i would have bought this already, as well as a $750 240z rolling shell that was for sale in seven hills about a year ago, and there was the $1000 complete 2+2 in northern beaches that a widow was selling........... I seriously need to build my double garage, put in 2 hoists so i can buy 3 more zeds that will take another 12 years to build...........

Is that any different to some of the builds on here? People on here have done it, they probably aren't rich, so its done little by little over 3-5 years, opposed to a few months like Sungs car. I'm just exited to see what he will do with it, I'm happy that he likes Zeds, and old metal, a humble or poor mans car so to speak. He could be just another movie star driving around in a Ferrari or Lambo, and I'm sure he might have one of those also. He could have had a liking to expensive classics, and would be restoring a GT40, or a Shelby GT500, something that would cost $150 000 before restoration. But the fact he is restoring a humble poor mans Datsun. A car we can all aspire to and relate to. Somehow to me, it makes him seem normal, not a Hollywood tinsel town movie star, not connected to reality. What excites me the most, is because he has a lot of disposable income, he can build something we could only dream about, a high HP NA RB, he could have done a tc24 twin cam motor also, and it could be finished in a reasonable time, not waiting 3 years while average Joe scrapes together cash to slowly get it built. I'm loving it!

Mine was the drive home for the first time. I had bought my bus under the condition it came with rego, it hadn't been registered in around 20 years. It had been given a cheap nasty respray, the whole car had been stripped, and the previous owner was in the process of re assembly. We agreed that he would give it to his mechanic, who would get it ready for a blue slip in 3 weeks time. This would include a full service, fix brakes, clutch all the other things needed when a car had been sitting for 20 odd years where all the seals had failed and leaked. 3 weeks passed, and i met him at the local RTA, i had the green slip in fist, he drove up in the car with a blue slip. We went inside, i paid the rego and got it put under my name. as we walk outside, waving to the teller at the RTA with the brand new plates for our safe and roadworthy car, he scratched his head and mumbled under his voice that id need to help him push start the car out of the car park.......i kid you not, flat battery and alternator playing up....... So we bolt on the new plates to our roadworthy car, i help him clutch start it with my friend, it coughs and splutters into life, with many a backfire from the finely tuned flat tops. I jump in my mates car and we follow him back to his house to complete the deal....... First few things i notice, no brake lights work, no indicators work (he is putting his arm out the window to indicate). Its blowing smoke like a chimey on take off due to old valve stem seals.... i mean its bad! -So much for a legit blue slip right? We get back to his, i pay the cash, i jump in and start the 40km drive back home through Sydney traffic. First thing i notice, speedo doesn't work........ no temp gauge, no oil pressure, no fuel gauge..... well its safe to say only the tacho worked.... Every set of lights she wanted to stall, i had to keep the revs up at idle. I started getting sleepy due to the exhaust leak (it had snapped exhaust studs front and back of motor). As i was heading down Great western highway i hit a massive pot hole and the side mirror fell off, i looked in the rear view mirror as saw it tumbling down the road into the gutter.... well no time to stop now! i had to press on! ( on later inspection, due to the same treatment on the passenger side mirror, it had been held on with race tape!) It backfired and spluttered all the time under acceleration, it had a mad diff clunk under deceleration, and despite all this at every set of lights, someone would give me the thumbs up or want to talk through the window. I even had a bloke who was walking on the footpath, while at a traffic light, come onto the road, stick his head through the window and say "wow i haven't seen one of these in years!!!" and proceed to have a quick chat until the lights went green. It was the most exhilarating drive ever, the whole time i had the biggest smile on my face, The car was the biggest turd on the road, but it was my turd, it had so much character, so much soul!!! from that drive on i was hooked. I spent the next 6 months fixing all the electrical issues and some mechanical things as i drove it to work and back once a week before i tore her down for the restoration. Cant wait to get her finished to get that smile on my face again! Rudolf.

I have also been following him on bookface.... I wouldn't worry Gav. I have faith he will do a nice job, remember he is an actor and the whole F&F thing was only a movie. He wont build something like that in real life..... surely? i hope.......

although i am enjoying the 911 "resurrection" videos, i have to sympathize with all the tradesmen in the video's, it can get frustrating when your trying to figure out a problem, having a customer in your face hovering over you wanting to talk or asking questions, this guy is even worse because he has a video camera in your face doing on the fly commentary too! *edit Just watched them all, now Ive started the 911S restoration video's in his other playlist.... dam it Gav i was supposed to drop the front suspension out of the zed today haha!

great to catch up with everyone, and to meet some new faces too! I'm all for a BBQ, but perhaps a cruise too. Eg, we meet at Thornleah McDonalds, then take Old Pacific Highway through some twisties up to the entrance where we can have a nice BBQ there? make it another day Trip? Rudi.

car looks awesome with the Wats mate! Must resist temptation to boss out in the 80's with either a DR30 or ZX. One car at a time!!! You never fail to make me feel lazy when you update your builds! They seem to always come along at a cracking pace, and i love it, gives me motivation to get in the garage and spanner on mine! Do you still have your "troublemaker" 2+2? If i recall that was getting close to paint before that rough patch you went through. Rudi.

here is a video of a nice looking 240z from his channel... Now he does offer a service, i believe like most importers, you pay a $1000 broker fee to them, they give you their "log on details" to their jap auction account, and you can browse cars yourself, tell him yep i like this this and that, this is my budget, and they bid on them for you etc etc. I believe this Zed was purchased this way, not straight on his lot. I have heard stories of a Hako they had, selling it for 60k or so, it was full of rust, bought cheap, bogged and flogged once it was here for a massive profit. At least if you only use them as a import broker, you can choose the quality of car you get, choose what you want, and use them only as a middle man/translator. In saying that i would not use him on principal, as we all know why, id probably go through Iron Chef Imports. Does anyone know when that court case is due to be heard? I'm curious In 1971, a 240z cost $3500, and when accounting for inflation, turns into around 20k USD. A pretty good price for a performance car! Today, for that coin, all you would get would be a econo hatchback! So how much did it cost to option up with a S20? or if that wasn't possible, how much more was the PS30 over a base model? Rudi.
