Ah the angled cannon exhaust, its the obligatory mod for instant 100kw when your on your P plates, i remember my first S13 Silvia when i got my license, when i drove into the exhaust shop to get a cannon, i remember the guy saying "straight or angled? wait... do i even need to ask?" waiting for updates!!!! Great write up! Yes i can attest to the amount of room a car takes up when its not bolted together, i have panels in the roof rafters, under the house, i think I've spent close to $500 over the last year at bunnings buying plastic storage bins to put everything in. I've also found that for me its 30% time actually using tools to remove stuff, 30% of my time taking photos and the remainder is spent uploading photo's and categorizing them, and writing notes in MS paint on them! If a screwdriver was the wrong tool for removing a windshield, what is the right tool? I sat in the passenger seat awkwardly "Leg pressed" the front windshield out with a friend to catch it once it popped out the seal! Rudolf.

Ive looked through all my old pictures, and i cant for the life of me find what the hole circled in the picture is for. any help? Rudolf.

throw it in the bin and make a brand new one. All you can do is either remove all the pins in the plugs and clean them ( which would take forever) or cut off the plugs and fit new ones, which would make the loom essentially shorter, and you might have issues with everything reaching where it needs to go. Either way, there is no point as the wire could be corroded half way down the harness. I know you want to keep everything nice and original, but unless you can find a NOS harness, i would not even bother. Just make a new one, you could do it one section at a time. Rudolf.

dam looks like you got a good deal out of that trade, the S13 would only depreciate, now you have a car that will only increase in value! Looks good, I like the color. As im sure you have found out, 99% of your electrical issues will be corroded terminals and bad earths. Nothing electrical worked in my car when i bought it, i must have gone through about 10 dremmel wire wheel brushes cleaning everything up. Rudolf.

Hey mate any particular reason you chose to go with the 6 speed S15 box? how much power are you chasing eventually? Because they don't particularly like anything over 250kw. If possible, stick to the 5 speed. 6 speed boxes have a flaw from factory where the actual 3rd and 4th gears in the box are held in place on the counter gear shaft by circlips. From factory the circlip groove in the shaft is not machined deep enough, and the circlip is prone to break or fall off, then all your gears fall off. Also after time, they have an annoying issue where its hard to select reverse, you have to roll forward then engage reverse and they are all noisy from factory. Since you already have to make a custom gearbox cross member and tailshaft, I would personally choose a R33 RB25 box or 300ZX Z32 box from the start. The only extra outlay would be a adapter plate, from SR20 motor to the RB box which could be had for the $600 mark (powetune make a excellent kit). A 6 speed box will set you back $1000 mark, where a RB box is only about $1500. It would be peace of mind knowing that you will never have any issues with the drive line for around a extra $1000-$1500 outlay. Rudolf.

yeah sure am! Using a 250a mig at home, once again borrowed from mate. I have had some time on the gun at work, however that welder is pretty much set up to weld anything, so its just turn it on and go. And the advice i got was pretty straight forward, for a 90 degree joint do "C's" and push dont pull. I must say the biggest thing to improve my welding was using a good quality welding helmet, It helps when you can see what your doing, and not having to worry about flipping down a visor. I also took about 10 "ruler length" worth of offcuts of flat bar and small box steel home. And i use that to try and set up the welder, it took me about 30 minutes today to get the settings down right where i was happy and it felt smooth, then i attacked the project. Yeah that's the plan Gav, probably sent it to a media blaster first once i get this mini project done. Rudolf.

Update 3.4.14: Building a rotisserie. I have made some progress, cutting my footings and making mounting brackets for the car. And really only getting the boiler makers to show me how to set up the welder and show me a few techniques. Im doing most of the welding at home, and just cutting up offcuts at work and using those. So far everything has been for free. The footings: The rear mount, not pretty but should do the job: The front taking shape, i wasn't really confident using only the bumper bar supports, so i also went down to the chassis rail: tacked it all up, removed it then ran some weld: Then gave it a lick of paint: I might have to buy the thicker box ill use for the uprights, as we don't have anything long enough at work, but so far so good it hasn't cost me a cent. That is so tacky....... The oil cooler isn't even plumbed in, the hoses just hang in the engine bay! Its like a throwback to 1999 Autosalon where a blue SSS pulsar had a "front mount intercooler" plumbed up as a super pod filter air intake... atleast the contact paper "carbon fiber" roof and interior parts can be peeled off..... Yes it was great to come down and finally put faces to names, meet new awesome people and catch up with a few old faces too! I agree on having a nice cruise and BBQ somewhere next time. Great Photo's too! Rudolf.

UPDATE 17.3.14: Motor and box out! I managed to pick up the engine crane from my friend, and so the weekend was spent pulling the motor and box. I also took out the fuel tank/pump and most of the fuel related gear mimus fuel rails... it was a pretty productive weekend. Please excuse my extremely safe and WHS/OHS compliant methods of jacking the car and chocking them with "air blocks"... dont worry i didn't get under the car like that, just needed to raise the back end to get the engine out! I am also in the process of starting to make a rotissarie, but this is being done at work because i have a whole fabrication bay and an abundance of free steel offcuts i can use, also the knowledge and help of a few boilermakers.... Yeah happens to everyone, just try not to break expensive parts like i did! I had a bad moment this week, i was pulling down all my parts tubs from the roof, and i knocked one plastic tub, it fell down and of course my brand new starter motor and the alternator i rebuilt was in it, starter motor smashed into 3 nice pieces on the garage floor. Well there goes $170 down the drain, awesome! Also broke the alternator, that was probably a good 5-6 hours worth of my time rebuilding it! Well at least that gives me an excuse to change to an internally regulated alternator right? right?...... I contemplated going down that wrinkle paint finish for my rocker cover, but i was worried how it would hold up to the heat and elements long term, what it would end up looking like, hence why i had mine painted instead. Hey mate welcome to the forums! Its great to see another 2+2 getting built! helps to even out all the 2 seaters that are getting done! As for replacement panels, there are a few guys on here that can make them if needed. If i recall seeing a few days ago, Lurch advertised that he can make 2+2 doglegs if people require them, but they are made to order. I'm no panel beater so i cant comment if those dents can be easily beat out or not. perhaps someone else can chime in on that and the slam panel. Look in the parts and tools for sale, and technical sections, and probably get more views and response if you asked the questions in there too! Looking forward to updates, as i'm in the process of stripping down my bus too! Rudolf.

Nah too late for getting carried away Gav! She going to be stripped completely and put on a rotisserie, even through she probably doesn't need to go that far, but from what Ive learn in the many years of at least modifying my cars, do it right the first time. and also, The dearest way is the cheapest way. <--(as in don't skimp out and buy cheap parts, you end up paying twice, the second time for the quality gear once the crap breaks!!) Update 4.3.14 - Bracing some engine stands- Dolf tries out some welding...... So i pulled my finger out, and went around to a mates place to pick up his welder. Since i have not welded in about 4 years, ever since i did the module at tafe as part of my apprenticeship, i took some scrap metal from work and decided to practice to try and set up the welder, then attacked my 2 super shiver engine stands. I wanted to give them some more bracing. When i had the motor on the stand, it would lean over like a old lady, so some more support was added! Anyway, im no welder, but i got some decent penetration on it as you can see in this next picture, the top weld was abit skew, because the welding helmet i was using was a fold down rubbish one with a real dark lens, the next day i took the subcontractors auto darkening helmet for the night, and the rest of the welds turned out better since i could see what the hell i was doing! not bad for not welding in over 4 years..... gave it a lick of paint too: now its nice and solid with the motor sitting on it. I also dropped the tailshaft and removed the clutch lines to the gearbox, getting ready to yank the motor and box soon, when i go pick up a engine crane from a friend. Rudolf.
