Hi guys. A new-to me Z is on the way soon, unfortunately due to the council being a generally useless sack of @%$&&#&$, the house (most importantly bigger garage) that the parents are planning to build, will probably not be done until I'm finished uni, have a real job, and a very real mortgage of my own hah. Anyway for the mean time, the new-old gal will be spending most of the time outside (something silly about Mums vw being more expensive therefore requires undercover parking blah blah... ). The car won't be a daily, and certainly won't be driven in the wet (have an S13 for that ). Obviously I want to take the best care that I can. Normally I would assume a heavy duty car cover should be enough, however we get a few pretty cold nights in winter with frosty mornings, fog, pissing horizontal rain, etc, so wondering if I could lay something down underneath to try and minimize any moisture that would creep up? It's concrete though so I don't think it should be too bad. Also thinking of applying lanolin/fish oil to the underside area as well as nooks and crannies where moisture and condensation would seem most likely to get into. Then reapplying every 6 months or whatever the bottle says. I think lanolin is preferred over fish oil ?? So in short: -Waterproof car cover that will also keep the heat down in summer. Obviously a decent fit for a Z would be nice. -Can I, what, should I lay down underneath parking spot to minimize moisture? -Lanolin, fish oil, anything else for extra underside protection? -Have I missed something? Thanks !

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
thriller replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Sorry should have quoted. I meant that Yellow race car in S.A. -
Do be wary of rust though, what the seller says it has, and what it actually has, are two different stories... I very nearly bought a 260 2+2 as my first car. Ended up with a Silvia roughly same price, but Z would have been great fun too. I suggest you try drag along a forum member here, or at least post the link up in this thread before you go look at one to buy. Might save you a lot of money in future! Car insurance websites should do a free quote estimate for you... Can't imagine it'd be ridiculously expensive

What you would like your Z to look like?
thriller replied to Toecutter's topic in General Discussions
Does look a bit like a pencil to me, especially without a rear wing.. Without flares is a weird one, think I have seen a few times? I like them lots with the whole type B kit but it's a bit much for a road car without any livery -
Spoiler suits it to a T! Also I never noticed the shaved rear end... I think the way it's been done looks perfect, i.e. under tail-lights is shaved, but still has the indents on the rear 1/4's. Personally not a fan of the shaved 1/4s. Photos with Paul's look cool. Jap day will be sensory overload with so many Z's.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
thriller replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Turns out I know the guys son through facebook. If there's enough interest interstate I could go have a squizz and take some more detailed photos? -
I honestly think you'd be best off waiting until you have storage issues sorted out. Good deals pop up through this forum every once in a while, though most of them will be on the east coast. For a resto project, buying a car in pieces is probably a lot better than buying a whole car that barely runs. That way there's no carpet, sound deadener, seats, interior, drivetrain, etc that will block your view of a rusty shell that's falling to bits. That car is probably the project potential I've seen to pop up in S.A. for roughly a year? But it'll be a waste if you don't have the space to keep it & just end up needing to sell in 6 months time... Anyways S.A. has a good bunch of Z folk. If you wanna come have a look at my rustbucket and a chat you're welcome, just shoot me a pm

-Very -Not at all (haynes manual covers it completely) -depends how much of it there is... Best to save up 10k ish and wait 6 months for the right one to pop up. I jumped in headfirst a year ago with a rusty one and it's still rusty. Nice garage ornament though! EDIT: All that said, http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,12368.0.html looks okay. The good thing with buying a car in bits, is that it's already at the tear-down stage where you won't find any more nasty surprises. If you want a project car, i.e. not running to start with, suggest giving yourself a healthy 10k budget, and just wait for the right one to pop up. Give yourself 6 months and you'll see a few okay ones for that price. No rust!

You betcha! $715 each, brand spankers. http://www.watanabe.com.au/page3.html "15x12 -51 4 or 5 110 or 114.3 8.6kg $715" Streeter is a top guy. Wheels will take a bit less than three months from sending the link to them turning up at your door. Roughly $100 postage a wheel. Use something like importmonster.com.au looking for wheels. Z stuff is useless (waaaayyyy more expensive than here, U.S. ebay is good for that stuff) though it's fun to type in 'S20' or 'Z432' or whatever and see what comes up

1974 Datsun 260z (2 seater) with R34 skyline engine conversion
thriller replied to Napes94's topic in General Discussions
I think a 1jz conversion will be a lot cheaper. Granted the motor won't be as new unless you get one from a JZX100 chaser etc. Best bet I think would be to watch the Pickles online salvage auctions like a hawk. Seen lots of cheap things go through, S14 for $1,800, S15's for $5,000, etc etc. R33's get written off all the time so I think that might be a good option too. Nobody wants Toyota Soarers either so they're also very cheap. Lots of info is available online about wiring up a 1jz if you're worried about that. If you're not too handy on your own and need a workshop to do lots of the work it will cost two arms and half a leg to have it done well, but if you can weld & point a soldering iron then it won't cost too much more than the cost of the donor car. -
Fast & Furious producers must watch this site!
thriller replied to luvemfast's topic in General Discussions
Ben Sopra commissioned Kei Miura (TRA kyoto) to design his kits. That's why the R35, 86, the 380sx (http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/01/speed-challenger-the-bensopra-380sx/), and the original Rocket Bunny 6666 kit look quite similar Personally I'm a fan (if they had a ducktail instead of time attack style wing..). Dunno about the weird vortex generators behind the R35 wheels but hey, each to their own -

Co starring: with a smattering of RWB porsches? Wonder if we'll judge this the same as we do the original FnF in a decade... -
Yes hopefully 'the turd' will be making an appearance. Need to sort out wiring, exhaust, I/C configuration and the radiator to get it driving, so hopefully will be able to make it in time That sounds good, I'll come past the shop next Monday to come check things out if that's alright?
-
Entered a patina project of my own . Shame it's not a datto though, just need to get cracking when I'm home and have the 1jz working enough to drive there. Hopefully not a sea of s/r-chassis and JZX100's again.

Fairly keen on electric aerial... 240z or 260z unit?? Or pretty well perfectly interchangeable? Would need to get it boxed up for postage, and I'm away until the 25th. If you could PM me a price it'd be appreciated Thanks. -
OK not a zed but a very cool and very rare Japanese sports car.
thriller replied to NZeder's topic in Off Topic Discussions
One of them in Adelaide too! Looks great in the flesh. Here's two snaps from last year's japan day that I grabbed. I thought it was <1000 built as well? didn't get a photo of the inside but it's very very nice. cool switchboard center console and white interior -

The s.a. 2000gt has been owned by the same family since new I hear. Insured for something like 600k...? http://www.garageofawesome.com.au/index.php/goa-rants/spotted/57-toyota-2000gt-super-rare-and-right-here Stunning car. Hard to choose between the 2000gt, S30, Miura or ... god forbid a 911.. in terms of styling methinks. -
Like you wouldn't believe. There was a mint black 260z one of the members snapped up for $6,000 or something. Was only on carsales for a few hours. And a silver 240z in very nice condition for $8,000 a few weeks back that lasted about a day. Not even any time to think about it!

http://www.downshiftaus.com/2010/cotton-wool-no-thanks/ that's a 9.5" on the front... 10" +0 and lots of camber would probably 'fit' in the p-plater-in-a-KE70 sense of the word...
