love the auto correction on this here. The car looks pretty tidy. It's local, mooostly stock, unmolested (save the gaping hole in the roof), reasonably priced. As you say, looks like a pretty good candidate for a 'fix-as-you-go' kinda thing, not requiring a ground up resto or any super serious off-the-road time. If it ticks all those boxes for you I'd say go for it. Out of interest, did he have many other people keen? It seems to have been for sale forever..?

Possibly not the most ideal car if you're looking for something to hop straight into and drive around; it's had a respray and potentially hiding a few nasties. Bring along a magnet or something and just make sure you go over the usual rust spots with these cars & make sure they're alright, or at least you know about them so you don't get surprised. Have a good look underneath the floors too. Interior looks a bit shagged too, door cards and seats mainly. Though a member on here split up a 2+2 (in s.a.) as you probably would have seen. If you go through with it, might be worth getting in touch and checking out if the door panels are still around. Color is different, but nothing some dye won't get looking similar. Better than big ugly holes and saggy vinyl. When you get a chance to look, bring along a camera and snap away, post some pics up here if you're still thinking about it & if anything looks dangerously suss you'll soon know about it.

Bushings: new rubber VS new poly VS don't bother VS mix and match?
thriller replied to thriller's topic in Suspension
Cheers Personally I'd be happy just to putter around in a stockers L26 with a bit of a bootfull every weekend or so. But with the L28 coming it should be reasonably feisty, and to have it handle like a bucket of poo would be a bit of a letdown to the engine. I'm leaning toward just going rubber and eventually upgrading the shocks. But if they're going to last half as long as poly and feel significantly more 'boaty', then might not be the best option. The other option would have just been get new rubber throughout, and go poly in a couple of spots like swaybars, steering rack, where the difference would be more noticeable? -
Howdy. As all the running and rolling gear is out of the 260 at the moment & needs paint, thought I'll never get a better chance than this to do a full overhaul (yep, might-as-well bug got me..). I don't like the idea of squeaky poly, though greased on install apparently makes it alright for a while. I also hear that black poly is much better than red. Which is good, not going to go sticking blingy red bits all underneath the car. Don't want to go installing grease nipples into the moustache bar and that kinda stuff though. Maybe it's better to leave hard to reach ones as rubber though? Also hear that poly is quite stiff. That's not tooo big a problem for me, as long as it's not stupid bouncing up and down the road stiff. As long as it's actually worth it in terms of cornering compared to rubber? But most people can only compare poly to old rubber that it replaced. Has anyone got experience with new rubber vs new poly? Is poly actually going to last much longer than rubber like a few people say? And for those bastard sharp object bushings like in the rear lower wishbone thingy, or the front lower control arms, or moustache bar.. Basically anything you need to press out.. Is it worth replacing them or will the difference not really be felt? Basically I think what it comes down to for me -Is poly going to last much longer than rubber? -Does it make ride quality terrible? -Will it feel much nicer to corner etc compared to rubber? -Is the pain of doing moustache/LCA/rear wishbone thingies worth it?

Ah sorry I didn't that post till just now! Oh well. Good experience though. Anyways on with it; Before... Things got carried away... Wasnt planning to do whole underbody, but no better time than now I guess. All suspension bits need to be repainted, probably bushings, and re-plate a bunch of stuff. Don't mind the state-of-the-art axle stands there. Coming along nicely I guess. Engine bay has quite a bit of peel and a few spots I'm not happy with, so will try and make it work a bit nicer. Think it was just too much air pressure coming out the gun, because I had it quite a bit lower today and it went on almost perfectly flat. p.s. thanks for the support/tips.. Good to know I'm near enough on the right track.

Have a '77 two seater here. Very 70s color scheme... champagne gold with poo brown interior Here's a list of colors for each year: http://zhome.com/History/colors.html And here's a list of colors including pics of cars in that color: http://zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/index.html Unfortunately doesn't list interior colors that could have gone with the 260z's. Not sure what I'm gonna do about the emissions gear as I'm preetty sure I'll need a full roadworthy... Meh, cross that bridge when I get to it.

Looking good. My z almost ate the bucket today too. Was jacking up the rear, put some stands on the back end of the floors. Took the jack away, walked away a few meters and turn around to see the Z balancing perfectly on the two stands. Derp! Forgot there was 0 weight in the front end since everything had been pulled out haha. Also think you need to change your sig so the 180sx is also a type X tribute... We don't wanna go through that again

Well done, looks pretty damn tidy. makes me want to pack up all this uni work crap and go work on the zed, though freezing rain and wind is working to the advantage of my homework too

Saturday is good. Don't have anything to dyno though (could get my red Z rolling and do a flinstones dyno run I guess?)

Spent the morning kneeling on the floor smacking the shit out of a little piece of metal with a hammer hahha. Didn't turn out too badly... Still need to weld the nuts on and then we're good to go. Fit is not 100% perfect so need to spend a little bit of time until I'm really happy with it. Really need to invest in a dolly, sandbag and a nice hammer... One day! Also any word on treatment of the inside of panels before welding them on?

180SX TypeX SpecR project soon to be daily ITS ALIVE!!
thriller replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Off Topic Discussions
We'll see hey, that's what I was thinking. I've got 32 brakes on anyway but the stuff to go DE+T would be interested (or maybe whole motor to get oil-squirters out of the DET etc), in a little while once the Z at least has an engine in there. Let me know if you're going to try get rid of it urgently and I might try find some space to hoard parts for later. T28? Also think S15 rear cradle needs to go in if you want a functional speedo? as zedevan said, s15 dash would suit it, since the s13 one is bound to have cracks... But then the door trims look stupid when closed. -

Phwoar looks pretty tidy. Funny how many people on the silvia forums spend 6 months trying to do a job like this and it looks half as good. And that's just engine bay. What'll be happening to the old and holey SR20 gear? -
Someone at work spotted your grocery getter this evening. Risky move, would hate to get any shopping trolley dings!

It looks okay from pics. As Roberto said been for sale for a good few months now, which may mean all the genuine buyers are dodging it for a reason... Sunroof is certainly not factory either (they never came with them off the boat, don't care what anyone says!). Not really a structural thing as the roof is a very flexy bit of sheet anyways. If you want an extra set of eyes I'm happy to tag along & point out some common body issues, just send me a PM if keen.

I need one of these. One of the big ones. Actually no, make it two.

I'd also agree that if a car is being cut to bits, this area is probably gone too, just hoping though. I was planning to have a crack at making it, but thought I'd check out here if anyone had something first. Biggest kicker is I had this part months ago, before I decided that keeping a nose cut would be a waste of space and sent it to scrap serves me right!

Hi guys Need the panel that I'm holding below Preferably cut about 10cm higher up than where I cut mine though. Only thing I need to do before I can lay some color in the engine bay so if you've got a 2+2 sitting in the back yard let me know! Want one rust-free. Surface stuff is okay but if it's pitting I'd rather pass. If you can see rust from the outside there's a pretty good chance the inside looks like mine. If you're interstate, happy to get a courier to pick up from your house.

Well just linked every photo here and my computer just ate itself so lost the reply. Have a browse here at your leisure: http://www.flickr.com/photos/57235973@N05/ Few goodies: Hey everyone! Don't look at the missing passenger window crank! Doesn't this make you think they should know down all the bronze horsemen statues and stick up some Z's? Anyway great weekend, lots of fantastic cars. Special mention to Greg's insane restoration, was pretty unbelievable.

Gave greg a call today to check what was going on, it was those side drain thingies where the headlight bucket rests, mine is too far gone. Not to worry plenty will pop up. Got to go through my pile of stuff and check if anything could do with replacing or getting spares. Trim looks very tidy -
It's so nice working on one that's a clean shell to start with. The 'late model 180b' is a N/A SR model, my first car. Converted from auto to manual, then like all p-platers with s13's I got bitten by a certain bug. Next thing you know it and it has tein coilies, 32 GTR rear swaybar, 32 front brakes with 4stud slotted rotors, cusco caster arms, KAAZ 2-way. Inside has 32R passenger seat, replica bride bucket, nardi 330mm classic. Probably a fair few other little things too. It's really pissing me off at the moment though, muffler is shot so sounds like a riced out lancer (typical sr20 right), doesn't like starting cold and have had a few 'incidents' with static objects so need's a bit of panel love too. Don't have the time to even think about it until this Z is out of the way though. On the front of the Z is 14" Hayashi Techno TRV, and I'll have some 14x8 -12 SSR MK2 for the rear with way-too-narrow tires on them which I imported (excuse my one cardinal sin guys!). Not sure if I'll like them in the end, but we'll wait and see.

Well took a break over easter to head to P.I. Cool stuff. Back into it this weekend, aim of the game is to have a fair chunk of the car stripped, etched and primed. then soon I'll get some color made up, have a few test runs on some old panels and have a go in the engine bay. Need to give a few spots a bit of a zing with the sandblaster before I can prime them though, haven't come across anything else that needs replacement yet which is good. Just veyr light pitting. Most of the car seems to be 2mm deep under bog, which is...weird. And very messy. Haven't come across any evidence of crazy hailstorm style dents yet. Just a few here and there that i'll deal with later. As you can see there's a fair few little dents around roughly the 2 oclock position of the wheel arch

Ehh Jonny you got dibs on the only bit I really needed! Sure I'll find someone else cutting up a bus soon enough though hhaha. Kicker is I had the exact part I needed ages ago...before it got crushed and recycled into coke cans.. Now I know what you meant about hanging on to every single thing no matter how useless it seems at the time hahah Anyways just waiting on pics of interior to see if the brown is the same as my 260z brown... Might grab a few trim pieces if it is
