  1. Cool trivia for you ^ The first AUDM cars off the boat came with fender mirrors, but they were kinda chrome and thing and more stalkey, not like the JDM ones you see. Jonny's rusty musty had them I'm pretty sure. I don't think many early cars have their original fenders so it's pretty rare to see factory holes. and from memory, most dealers took them off? Not sure how many of the early cars had them either, might have been the first lot, or all of the early ones. Not sure. I think if #283 would have had them, go for it. Pretty rare to see & I think they look really classy on a clean and stock looking car.
  2. Scuse the phone (and awful instagram) pictures. Handbrake assembly looks fantastic Engine bay is just about ready to be re-united with its old heart Just waiting on tie-rods before I can put the wheels back on & have a complete front sussy assembly done. Didn't get new rotors because these had about 70% of life left, just sprayed some heat resistant matte black on there after a bit of wire-wheeling and ranex rustbuster Doorjams painted, killed some more rust in the tailgate jam (few square inches were in really bad shape & smoothed over with some bog). Doors are on and aligned as best as I can do them, fenders are bolted on for good. Painting rear LCA and suspension uprights if the weather holds out this weekend, then she can have all 4 wheels back to earth pretty soon. Bit of a pain only being able to work on it two days a week, but she's coming together. Really need to get cracking as it'd be great to have it done around the start of summer. Apart from the paint (and need to weld in some fresh metal around the fuel filler... will test my skills for sure), the rest of the work is pretty straightforward and all the parts are in sweet condition waiting to get stuck back together. can't wait
  3. ^^ Spot on. SH is a bit of a joke (half the time). Your car is 5x as good as any of the Z's I've seen 'featured' on there ever. To be fair, they're probably just so inundated with submissions of sacked out Z's that the mail automatically gets directed to trash. Anyways those photos look fantastic! I think watanabe center caps would top it off perfectly, but that's a lot of $$$ for not much gain
  4. Looks fantastic. Will be cool to see it in person some time eventually! Is it just the photo or is that front valence a wee bit bent?
  5. Shotgun spindle pins (if same as 2 seater???) Will be happy to pay postage + some extra for the trouble of sending them. Mine look like mushrooms on all threaded sections hahah
  6. I like the K front end (more than I thought I would). Would need the obligatory K taillights too. Fairline?
  7. Jonny/fairlady Z might be able to help you out on the fender mirrors. If not, PM me and I'll shoot off an email to Classic Car Nagoya & they might be able to find/send them over with a few things that I've bought from them but haven't yet posted
  8. Had the same issue. Have a go bashing it yourself (unless you get lucky finding a replacement piece), worst comes to worst you lost a few hours trying to learn a new skill. This was my first attempt at shaping metal that was more complex than something I could bend by hand. Helped me to roughly make a buck out of a piece of wood & bolt a flat piece of sheet to one side of it.
  9. How's that book coming along ? I'd love something in the vein of Shin Yoshikawa's 2000GT book, for Z's (hell there's a million of them for 911's). For now, some old Nostalgic Hero mags are doing the job. Don't understand a word of them, but it's nice to drool over the pics.
  10. It's funny how car parts breed like that. Just need to improve the formula so perfect cars turn up, not just bits and pieces heheh. If it's alright, I'll come around and check out the sick bitch one, and have a look at the 432 one to see if I like it enough to find one. Or just buy one of your normal ones?
  11. Hey Jonny I see you mentioned something about a 432 style spoiler.. The one with two ribs right?? I've asked some folk in Japan and they don't know of any reproductions available... I'd love one if they're not too much more than the usual 'BRE' style ones. I have header-back exhaust leaving Japan sooooooooooooon so postage isn't too big an issue (let me know if theres a few things you're eying off and maybe we can bundle shipping) If the 432 style ones are crazy $$$$$ then I'll have to come round and grab one of the two you have for sale.
  12. Ignore my post... theres a few around locally... sorry
  13. Might have to come to the shop for a bit of a perve
  14. As usual Alan, right Though, the reason I mentioned OS Giken's motor rather than pouring $60k into an L28 (or is that L34?), was not anything to do with power (I mis-spelled to stick a bit of sarcasm in). It's flavor. The same reason people think the LY28 is cool, or why people spend what looks like a small country's GDP on a 250 GTO, because it's a rare piece of history... Sure, it did not come from Nissan, but it has the same panache which people love about the S20 powered cars... The G-Shock is to a Mil Sub, as is an RB25 to the S20. I think a perpetual calendar from JLC might be a fairer comparison P.s. I should have mentioned 'powah' in a more Clarkson-esque manner.. Sarcasm does not travel too well through the inter-toobs.
  15. Welcome! You'll get a very tidy car for the money. There's a fairly nice red 240z for 30k on carsales right now. If you do get something that has been 'restored', make sure to get some pictures from before the primer went on. Tailgate area, windscreen corners, under the windscreen cowl, frame rails all along, floors, doors, doglegss, where the 1/4 meets the roof, radiator support panel, where the fender bolts to the sills, under the headlight buckets ..... I'd try to have a look at a car with the fenders off if you're spending some good money like that (unless theres some good documentation). If it's totally clean with the fenders off, there's a good chance the rest of the car is pretty clean. What kind of car are you looking to buy/build? L series or RB or something else? Stock body or flares?
  16. I think a whole 432 in-need-of-loving would be a better way to spend the money. They seem to be sub-100k, you get the whole car, all the stuff to make it fit, and most importantly the 'p' at the start of the firewall stamp, with an ID tag to suit... I thought OS Giken's second run of their twincam L donks were around the same ballpark price as this? 2x the powah, hell of a lot rarer too :/
  17. They have a habit of doing this... Keep an eye out every day for another 6 months and another will come around (and be gone in 24hr )
  18. TA22/28 etc is fairly similar and they've got the 'classic' kinda feel
  19. 904 http://www.zhome.com/History/ZColorGallary/
  20. Gorgeous. Hope mine looks even half as good when it's done.
  21. Holy hell gauges. Don't even want to know what they cost if they're a factory jobby Here's a pic of a factory works race car gauge... Similar... was yours built for s20 maybe? They all had 10k tachs.. Nice loot.
  22. I've been talking to a shop in Japan who've got one lying around. I'm bringing in a few parts for my 260 through them, so will be buying all that in about a month. They have one for 8,000Y, but it's pretty beat up. Here's a photo. Could probably source a better one for about $150. But obviously that's before shipping,. The $250 one on eBay is a decent price for that condition once you factor in shipping cost and waiting time, as you'd have to wait a few months for one from Japan. http://oi44.tinypic.com/2rcnyqa.jpg
  23. Definitely learn to shift properly, especially if it's stopping the screaming banshee noises. It's not too hard to learn, watch a few youtube vids, hop into the car (turned off) & get a feel for the motion you need to do. Then just try & practice during your daily driving at a normal driving pace. Pretty soon it'll become second nature and you'll be heel-toeing like a pro all the way to the supermarket. You'll wonder why you didn't try to learn earlier since it's so easy. Easier to learn than riding a bicycle. But it's a weird feeling to be twisting your foot like that if you've never done before. practice practice. It's a hell of a lot more satisfying to downshift properly, everything feels smoother, faster, more in-control & sounds waaayyy better than the jerky awful engine braking. Puts less wear and tear on the expensive bits of your car too, which is always a plus.
  24. Been keeping an eye on this for a while & it's really starting to take shape. Must see! That's the before shot.. Anyway there's stacks of cool close-ups of some pretty rare stuff I've not had a good look at before like the 100L fuel tank, bucket seats, Mach steering wheel etc. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/u8943-take432r-page1.html Head to the back for the oldest shots... Long as you don't need to be a member to see them..? Enjoy..
  25. Very informally pending interest, pending price (haven't seen them come up enough to know the ballpark figures). Any steel rims ?? If they've got some early cars for-a-pilferin, there's a handful of things I'm missing before I can piece together an early car (just need a good body some day).
