  1. the cage might be worth $200 without a log book. As mentioned Alum can't be logged anymore and even if this was steel it doesn't comply as the rear legs extend beyond the rear suspension mounts. May be ok for sprint motorsports or the right "look"
  2. I have seen twin spot sumos on a 70's corona that look remarkably like a Z twin spot, but never took any measurements.

the short answer is the one that's square and doesn't leak, both will work with respective pickups on a l28 in a zed

    Motul Gearbox Oil

I currently run Redline LW shockproof 75w/140 in my rally gearbox and now want to run something new. Has anyone run Motul 300 competition 75w/140?
  5. I thought I'd put up some info on what I've learn't with Datsun gearbox thrust bearing carriers. Alot of variables here as clutch covers vary in height and clutch fork pivot inside the bellhousing is adjustable. Generally there is a large bearing for the 225mm (6cyl) clutch covers and a small bearing for 200mm (4cyl) clutch cover, both interchangeable on carriers. In my experience there is five different sizes, measured from bottom to bearing base they are 39mm 34mm 29mm 27mm 25mm. Of these five maybe the second 34mm is aftermarket? seems to be steel, while all the rest are nissan cast. What I can say is on my tall heavy duty 57mm cover i use a 25mm carrier On my custom low HD 42mm cover I use a 39mm carrier Standard 6cyl covers appear to be 47mm tall, pretty confident 39mm is the standard fitment here, given i have about 10 of them! feel free to add.
  6. Your front end alignment guy will only ever adjust the ft toe ( until you put adj castor rods, camber plates etc in) Imm toe in is good for stability. o or 1mm toe out helps turn in but the car can become darty at high speed.
  7. You will never get 3.5 neg camber with out adj arms. That said it would be terrible on a daily driver too. 1 to 1.5 is plenty on a road car 0 to .5 on rear
  8. Then sell me the XM coupe instead!
  9. Dave can you contact me, in Ballarat this week

    Oil Cap O-Ring

haha when asking for door handle i always said its for a Datsun 1600, not a 240Z. Just take the O ring into a local bearing shop, nothing special about it probably cost 50c
  11. I autocrossed a 280zx and tweaks that cost nothing are set 17deg advance running 98 fuel run some injector cleaner take rocker cover off and move cam sprocket to number 2 hole release AFM spring by two teeth adjustable potentimeter on cold temp sensor
  12. do a compression test first
  13. Got a modified 1600 for motorsport duties and a restored 2+2, has to be the 2+2 if not simple things like intermittant wipers, AC, it's the std 6cyl has a heap more power and torque over even a modded 4cyl. Plus tonight the cute blonde at Hungry Jacks leaned out the window and told me she loves my car, I rest my case.
  14. I managed to drop the clutch slave away and pull on lever, no change in noise so I guess a box rerace will be on the cards some time.
  15. while your at it replace the rubber lines with stainless, much better pedal feel.

    Engine Noise

take the rocker off and check your valve clearances
  17. looks good are they collapseable, ie in an accident.
  18. Hmm, I'd like to hope its only the thrust bearing. Maybe I'll remove the slave cyl see if the fork / carrier backs off the clutch
  19. I can hear a slight low frequency noise when sitting in my car while idling? Put my foot on the clutch pedal the noise goes away, release it comes back so that would rule out thrust bearing. You need a keen ear to hear it and there is no strange sounds driving so i wonder if it's the start of engine bearing or box bearing any way of deciding?

  21. Gav if your in LA I happened to stumble on this Z wrecker when I was walking venice beach! http://zexpertautorepair.com/
  22. make sure your points gap is right first. I run 17deg static, hopefull you have a carb sync or at least a rubber hose and balance the carbs at idle, then again at 1500rpm
  23. 240z and 260z '74 had short tops all round, the later 260z seaters and 2+2 have short front tall rears. All interchangeable.
