Safari Brown... I mean Gold - The NSW Project
NZeder replied to gav240z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
with lack of fender mirrors and the indicators on the front fenders I would have thought that car was a UK spec - who knows what was going on with shipping and logistics back in the 70's I know a number of the NSW wharf strikes meant car that were destined for AU ended up in NZ - so maybe there was something like that in the UK and AU was wanting more 240z on the first shipment so a UK spec car was also delivered to AU. Having said that though due to ADR maybe a number of different specs were shipped to AU to see what the ADR required as far as specs were concerned?? Like I said who knows 70's might have been a bit of haze for some. -
Opening up this old thread again. Did you find any 37mm chokes Simon? I am looking for a set as my 41mm in my Mikuni's are bit large too

Safari Brown... I mean Gold - The NSW Project

Well done Gav. That one that was for sale here in NZ was around $27,000 IIRC - no one in NZ purchased it as if you look closely there are signs of a cover up of a rusty car in places - the slam panel has a funny looking repair - bog might be hiding lots of rust etc. So as much as it was nice looking car it was very high end of the NZ price market....but not as high as the track car which I have sister car that I now own. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/specialist-cars/competition-cars/auction-671646056.htm This car is a 240z - my car which was built but the same fabricator for the same owner but as a targa car of the same setup - cage very sim, both RB30DE powered etc. However I am running the car as a classic track car so the modern stuff has been removed and moved on. Anyway well done Gav -
They looks like Nissan Sunny Excellent items - that is a B210/120Y fitted with a L4 engine

L26 power S30 were Badged as Fairlady 260z but were recalled very very quickly (there were only a handful that made it to dealers/showrooms) The L26 did not met local emissions/tax laws or something so all were returned and reworked/repowered with the L20aE and all chassis were altered to S31 (be it GS31 or S31 - I believe there are one of two cars in Japan that have the RS30 with lines through them then the S31 stamped above or over the top) So no, L26 export only.

The Brown Hornet - as NEW 1971 240Z - SOLD
NZeder replied to acf321's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Off cause the clock works - it was the calendar clock I sold you -
Just remember guys that not all 260z 2 seaters are stronger. The 74 260z 2 seater is basically the same shell as the 72/73 240z with just different doors (windows regulators move the crank about 1" forward (assume this is to make room for the different door trim/handle)

Talking about Ford OHC - the Ford Pinto and the Nissan L6 have a lot of design details in common.

If you love rota then this I am sure you have seen before - if not enjoy this off topic movement Build right here in "the land of long white cloud" 814HP at the wheels on pump gas and non boosted see http://pulseperformance.co.nz/

Really? We don't find many here in NZ - in fact finding a L28 these days takes a bit of leg work/ear bending usually.

Post the images you must -
Actually Gav not sure if that is larger - just the way you have it sitting. I found some of the best pics I have seen showing the factory Urethane chin spoiler. This car is question is located in a museum in Munich - it is also the first time I have seen a LHD 260z that is not USA spec - ie just like our AU/NZ/UK as normal bumpers - but does have the lower valances without the turn signals. Anyway here you can see the it much clearer and it looks like this has never seen the sun/weather as the chin spoiler is perfect condition.

Here are the pics I have of the car. Looks to be 100% complete from the pics - no trim/bright work missing. Looks to have minimal to no rust - hard to tell from photos and sitting in Auckland Given I am in NZ and I don't really know the Oz market for these - so best to send me a PM and I can pass on the contact details and you can arrange a view and make an good market value offer - and they might let it goes for less to move it on quicker and to see it go to a good home. If I lived in Melbourne ....well I did once... so if I was still living in Melbourne it might have been sold already

Guys is any body keen for a Datsun 1600 barn find (well sort, deceased estate). One of the PA in our Melbourne office is needing to move on a Datsun 1600/510. I will get some pics up when near a PC and not using my phone.

one day I will - keep adding things to the family, first the second 260z track car, then a Honda VFR800 01 in Blue (to replace the 08 in Black sold for the $$ to purchase the 260z track car) and now baby number 4 - that is kids this time not cars/bikes. So I have 2 x boys, 2 x girls, 2 x 260z and 1 x VFR800, then the D21 single cab wellside 4x4 2.7 tubro for the farm, a people mover for the wife to cart all these kids around and my work wagon a suby Forester. So the car is still a kit set waiting for me to get into the garage and assemble - that is all that is required. And I sold the DCOE ITB and ECU long the way to help pay for the track 260z also so it will be running triple minuki's and a Electomotive crank trigger setup when I get that back from another local racer here in NZ who is running it in for me since his (one of the origial items) failed after 20+ years.

Not sure about oz but this was a big issue in the 90's here in NZ with grey imports. NZ government had to step in to satisfy the consumer and all imports must now have their odo certified, there a few who still try it on and they have large fines and import licenses or restrictions placed on them.

Don't buy into the series I BS that is normally a US market thing where I think changes were required by law...ie after x date the early seats where no long up to the standard for the given market. So those parts were used in cars for other markets where it did not have to compile to the same rules/laws etc. I have seen cars with lower chassis IDs have less of these "series I" parts so I guess it might have been dependant on the assembly plant and what they had in the parts bin too.

I find that using to some forums search does not return the results you are after. So I also use the site option in a Google search ie in the Google search bar enter Hope that helps

Not sure if anyone answer the question about the undertray with the big cross through it. That was the part factory fitted to the PS30-SB aka Z432-R that was sold to the general public for use on public roads - however these were only JAF homologation and only required 25 models to be produced in 1 calendar year. Much like the PS30 aka Z432 which again homologated under JAF classes only required 250 units to be produced and a total of 500 (I have seen the figure of 480 Z432 getting build and not sure how many Z432-R but given they were a special version of the Z432 maybe the 25+ were including in the total to get over the 500 units produced) Anyway that undertray was therefore a factory part and was made available on the sports option list. You might also note that 3023 is the homologation number for the HS/RS30 aka export models with the L24/L26/L28 engines (with the later models/engine extensions to the original papers). A number of the sports options items were permitted under the Group 4 aka GRIV you see on the top of the paper - the crossed out parts were for GRIV only so can't be used on GRIII (Group 3). The 240/260/280z (3023 homologation) is slightly different to the JAF stuff as the FIA required more production numbers for their classes/groups. IIRC Group 3 is for standard series production sport/gt cars much like Group 1 is for standard series production saloons (aka 2+2 configs Escort, Porsche etc). Then Group 2 and 4 were like groups again for saloons (group 2) and sports/gt (group 4 aka 2 seaters). Both these later groups 2&4 allowed for prototype/non standard series production items that were homologated ie that undertray, larger 4 pots calipers, over fenders (or bubble arches for the Escorts). Some cars were homologated under both group 1 and group 3 ie a saloon when in 2+2 and the manufacture made/sold the same car in 2 seater only version removing the rear seat. However having read the FIA Appendix K I am lead to believe that if a car was like that ie same model homologated in Group 1 and 3 then it can only run in group 1 form today. Porsche made and sold to the public in 1967 a 911R which was a lightweight, more power, larger wheels, bigger brakes 911 much like the Z432-R is to the Z432 however as Porsche was running in Europe it would have been under FIA production number requirements so they get over the line. We however don't as the Z432-R was JAF and only 25 units were required made/sold the general public with FRP bonnet, plexiglass windows, 100l fuel tanks, lighter body, cut down interior etc and of cause the S20 engine not the L24/26/28 series so that rules them out for us unlike the Porsche guys. I believe the 911R also have flared arches factory with 7" rim on the rear and 6" on the front. There are a number of cars that are running today that will have larger cc engines that what the rules allow - ie Pinto RS2000 or RS2000 replicas with 2300cc or larger engines due to cosworth cranks/rods and even alloy blocks painted to hide they are alloy. So what is the difference to an L34 aka L28 that is what is states on the side of the block just like the Pinto or 911 boys will say about the over cc engines (yes my 911 is the factory 2.4 BS 3.1 more like- sure some might be still running a 2.4 2.7 more likely) All race classes around the world have these rule bender/breaker in them and until they enforce the rules on all, and I repeat all, competitors then they will always be there. We know zeds and what parts were in the sports options lists and what was run in period - Big Sam was raced at FIA events with CAN-AM Brakes of the day but does that mean you can run with CAN-AM brakes today? Well that does depend on the class rules. If the class rules states "Production based parts only" then CAN-AM/AP brakes can't be fitted - end of. In the USA AirHeart/Hurst, AP and MK63 were all offered to any 240z/260z/280z owner from selected Datsun dealerships via the Datsun Competition Department of the day. However if the class rules you run under today state standard series production brakes then all these are out as they were optional parts dealer fitted ie not standard series production just like the bubble flares on Escorts - not a standard series production item. Fun and games these rules and what can and can't be done. If you read the FIA Appendix K rules you have a lot of scope when building a period 240z ie you can build a full Group IV replica with MK63 front and rear, big overfenders, larger 15" x 10" rims with L28 engines running triples and you could get HTP papers for such a car. However that does not mean you will be allowed to run it locally in AU under a given race meeting. Even the FIA state themselves that if someone holds an International FIA Appendix K (Historic) race meeting then your HTP papered 240ZG Group 4 replica is eligible to enter but that does not mean acceptance by the event organizer as it is still at their discretion who will be accepted to race. Got to love the rules and bias views that might come into play in classic/historic racing.

This mod was and is still done in Japan I am lead to believe. I know the mod cost a lot of yen and I believe it is just one shop/expert that carries out this modification. I have seen similar mods done on dellorto 40mm to make them 48mm. Either way it was a practice that was done in the 80's as far as I can recall but it might have been done in the 70's too but I know it was done in the 80's.

you can get radial mounted wilwoods with dust boots I know as I imported some. Now sold to the guy you purchased my old red 240z that had 16x9 - 7 with 225/45/16 on when I got it with stock guards and struts no issues at all.
