  1. Ok the best mod I have done to my Zed was installing sectioned struts, rose joint front end with poly bushes, koni adj and Lovell lowered spring (again given it is a 260z the 240z isolators on the top - still using standard spring perches and diameter springs) This mod did both, looks (lower) and performance. Handles so much better it is a completely different car Other bits I have done are just for looks (flares, G-Nose, wide 16" mags) while others for both, headers, suspension and soon to be triple throttle body injection (look cool + will give more performance once tuned to the engine I plan to build) The best performance mod to any car is you a good driver in a stock zed can kill a shit driver in a race perp zed on the track. So I am both kind of guy
  2. Nice photoshop work there....those rims on yahoo.co.jp will be too wide for stock fenders/guards you will need to flare or put on ZG overfender. The guys in Japan some don't cut the originals fenders/guards they juse firm up the suspension so there is no chance of rubbing. Also a 225/50/15 on a 15x10 (RS Watanabe the recommend offset will be -25 = stick out a long way) is a big strech. A 15x8 with 0 offset would be ideal for a Zed with stock fenders/guards. They are also a good fit for the 225/50/15. You might need to roll the guards a little depends on your cars suspension. If you run - camber on the fronts should be good and if you lower the zed the rear get a little - camber anyway. I do have some photos of 15x8 -12 offset with 225/50/15 installed on a 240z with stock suspension and fender/guards. If the RS Watanabes are out of your $$ range you could look at the rewinds that you can get from the US. I purchase some for Dad 15x7 0 offset again perfect for a stock zed no mods required. You can then go either 205/60/15 or 205/55/15 or 225/50/15 (most tyre manufactures recommend a 6-8" rim so 7" is the recommend for this size tyre) Here is pic of the rewinds look like (not the ones I got I have lost the pics I have on my PC). Once Dad installs them on his zed (green also) I will take a pic and post here
  3. Hell Gav if I had known you were on the look out for 44phh mikuni's there was a list on NZ Trademe a few months back setup for a worked L28 (came of a racecar that was trashed) for a buy now price of $1100 and NZD to you so about $1000 AUD given current exchange rates (and I could have put into my luggage on my next visit....they have not been listed since and they did not even get a bid. I was thinking about them but like you have been trying to make up my mind what I will do re induction. I have a N42 non ERG intake manifold and I modified a 635 BMW 64mm TB to fit on the front I am in the midle of porting matching the plenum to the TB. I also picked up a fuel rail from PAllnet for o-ring injectors. But you know what I just keep changing my mind....I really want to go triple throttle bodies but the price has been keeping me away from the big move (however if I was to purchase new carbs they would cost the same, I already have an aftermarket ECU, injectors, fuel pump) Have I talked myself into them yet....surge tank, WBO2, triple TB's, fuel press reg is all I need. Yep I have talked myself into So does anyone know anything about EFI Hardware throttlebodies?
  4. If you are after ZG light covers like those in the pic - you will have to shell out much coin for genuine Nissan ones (I do not know of a replica at all, I had a sheet metal worker look at mine and as the band is not chromed metal but high grade stainless steel to make an exact replica would cost a truck lot to setup the die (as you could not shape this with out a die and a large press) so replica's are out of the question in the same material as the factory units) So with that said when I got from my Japan I was sold the supplier only had 3 sets left, and that was Oct last year. You good luck finding some now. I know your next question how did I get mine from Japan - easy visit a local JapImport/Performance shop they have the purchase contact in Japan show them a web page (usually of a supplier you have googled etc) asking for the part you are looking for - the guy I am working with still visit Japan and is a ex Nissan Japan employee so I think helps in my case. So you next question what web site suppier has these listed. Here a few link for you. http://www.datsun-freeway.com/products/products_s30part.html looks like they have sold out of the stock head light buckets covers (not ZG covers, not sure if they sell them) http://www.japan-datsun-service.com/S30-1.html They have some listed on their site but don't say if the are in or out of stock http://www.aritaspeed.com/catalogue/aero.html These guys list them but only if you are purchasing a 5 piece G-Nose replica, they are not listed seperately so that will cost you $1000 + or - a bit + shipping Hope this helps and good luck Edit: I have sent an old set of ZG light covers (cracked and missing one of the SS bands) to a member of hybridz.org for him to replicate - he is talking about doing the bands in fibreglass and then just painting them with this new chrome paint - will keep you posted, however again he was quoted a lot even to replicate the covers with out the bands
  5. The ones with the single TB are 50mm. The NAPS manifolds with the twin TB are 42mm and 38mm with a opening of 64mm.
  6. sweet, a good wheel rim combo for those rims would be. 205/55/16 on the 16x7 fronts and 225/50/16 on the 16x8 rear. this will be the same same (well almost front will be 2mm taller total) rolling diameter as the stock 260z tyre 195SR14. These size tyres are a good fit on those rims (I used to have 205/55/15 on a 15x7 and 225/50/15 on 15x8 but they were not wide enough so they were swapped for a genuine Z-Gnose. Attached is a pic of 15's with this combo. What are the offset of those rims? +20? if you are using stock suspension the max back space is 4.5" so if these have more you will need to run a spacer to give you 4.5" of back space (the rears you can get away with 4.75" if I recall correctly) So that makes +12 on the fronts and +6 on the rear. The rims I had were 15x7 -6 and 15x8-12 (photos on with them installed on mates 240z stock suspension)
  7. wow they look good - so Sulio/Ash want to do another set - I would be keen they are good looking replica's very
  8. Those are the ones I have for my Zed. However I went 16x8.5-6 fronts (as stated) but went with 16x9.5-19 on the rears (my custom flares are a little larger than the stock ZG in the rear but these rims will still fit under the stock ZG flare)
  9. I know another Kiwi 240z owner that is after a set also so if there are going to be some available I am sure he would be in. I did visit Melbourne on business a number of times a year so could take back with my luggage.
  10. I agree with Sulio, re the width. Go 8.5 on the front and 9.5 on the rear. Sulio and I talked about sizes and offset over the phone before he purchased his rims. I have 16 though and like he stats tyre size is an issue in 16. The tyres I am running are 225/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear. Both are a small strech for the rim but I think they look good. Anyway I tested fitted my Rims to Dad's Zed (stock suspension) to check the clearance (my car still in bits so could not test fit on my car). This photos show the clearance on the front (the rear have a bit more room (I think this is what Sulio needed to confirm before he ordered his rims, to ensure they would work with stock spings and spring purches). Anyway here are some photos of my rims on Dad's car (non flared - check out other photos on my site if you want to see my custom steel flares) Wheels RS Watanabe Type R. 16x8.5 -6 with 225/50/16 fronts and 16x9.5 -19 with 245/45/16 rears And fitted to Dad's Zed.
  11. If you have 240z shell, then all mechical's from a 2+2 will swap in, just the drive shaft is longer. However having said that remember that there are some difference's between a 240z/260z early and the later 260z as far as suspension is concerned. 240z/early 260z = 51mm struts were as the later 260z are 55mm (most racers pick the later stuff up and install into the 240/early 260z). Most 260z have R200, were as the 240z has/had a R180, but the swap is easy if you have a 260z 2+2 doner car just swap the R200 in, half-shafts, and use the 2+2 mustash bar (can spell to save myself sorry). I believe the front cross member is the same just the top section is different that holds in the rack (260z have a larger rack but the tie rod (inner and outer are the same)). engine is and box (well I assume you know they will fit fine), and as stated the entire front end will bolt on (again a number of racers here in NZ have picked up rusty or cheap 2+2 for the front end after a off, or for the bigger struts, rack etc) I hope this is of use. Cheers Mike
  12. Yep JDM market Zed are all called Fairlady's even those fitted with the L24 (most were L20a but when a relaxation in the local automotive tax Nissan released some L24 powered Fairlady's). An example of the L24 powered cars are the HS30-H aka "Fairlady 240z" or as most call them a ZG. These were factory released to the JDM market only. I believe all had a close ratio box (ultra close I think), 5 piece G-Nose, most of the original ones you see on yahoo and other Japanese sites seem to all state LSD R180 so this might have been a standard fitment also? Ever the 432's were Fairlady Z 432
  13. Bus?! BTW' date=' thats what I'm doing already... It also seams like I'm the only other 2+2 owner on here, apart from 'smartarse'. Could this be true :?:[/quote'] The Bus comment is a local one here in NZ, back when I first got my zed there were 2 brown 76/77 260z 2+2 racing. They were called the brown bus company (the two owners were flatmates) - a take on the Yellow bus company which runs the buses here in Auckland. Other Zed racers gave the guys a hard time about the 2+2 config - but they were very good cars and kept a lot of the competition behind them (including 240z/260z 2 seaters) Cheers Mike
  14. All good re the 2+2 - I have just checked my Part Catalog and it looks like as far as export market 260z (RHD) there were only a few more 2+2 than 2 seater (373 more 2+2) - so I stand corrected. However if you include the US market 2+2 then there are more. So NZ and AU are in the same boat with more 2+2 imported. So for those that are interested see the production date's and car chassis numbers below (including the US market, however I am still looking for the JDM aka S30/S31, not HS30 or RS30 etc, production numbers - checking with a mate in Japan you might have access to the part's catalog of these models) Back to the 2+2 thing I once read in a racing book that somewhere between 98" and 102" is the ideal wheelbase for a racecar. A 240z/260z 2 seater is 90" whereas the 2+2 is 102". So pickup and bus and have some fun I say The following information is for a Factory Nissan parts catalog I have (Final edition printed in 1979) overall length (mm) 4,136=240z 4,115=260z 2seater 4,425=260z 2+2 overall width (mm) 1,630=240z/260z 2 seater 1,650=260z 2+2 overall height (mm) 1,286=240z 1,280=260z 2seat 1,290=260z 2+2 wheel base (mm) 2,305=240z/260z 2 seat 2,605=260z 2+2 tread --- Front (mm) 1,356=240z 1,355=260z both --- Rear (mm) 1,347=240z 1,345=260z both Tread differences between the 240z and 260z 2 seater is due to the 240z 185/SR/14 vs the 260z 195/SR/14 fitted standard. Here are the production figures also 240z=HS30(A)(U)(Q) Applied Date Oct69-May71=00003-00500 Jan71-Aug71=00501-01500 Sep71-Jun72=015001-14000 Jul72-Jul73=14001-101537 260z 2 seater=RS30(A)(U)(Q)(M) Applied Date Aug73-Aug74=000001-005000 Sep74-Jul75=005001-010000 Aug75-Jul76=010001-015000 Aug76-Aug77=015001-021000 Sep77-Jun78=021001-021384 260z 2+2 seater=GRS30(A)(U)(Q)(M) Applied Date Oct73-Aug74=000001-005000 Sep74-Jul75=005001-010000 Aug 75-Jul76=010001-015000 Aug76-Aug77=015001-021000 Sep77-Jun78=021001-021767 So a 260z either in 2 seater or 2+2 form is a rarer car than a 240z. This info might help you when looking for parts for your 240/260z as you can work out the production year from the chassis number US Production figures 240z=HLS30(F)(A)(U)(V)(N) Applied Date: Oct69-May70=000013-021000 Jan71-Aug71=021001-046000 Sep71-Jun72=046001-120000 Jul72-Jul73=120001-172732 260z 2 seater=RLS30(F)(A)(U)(V)(N) Applied Date: Aug73-Aug74=000001-060000 Sep74-Nov74=060001-200000 260z 2+2=GRLS30(F)(A)(U)(V)(N) Applied Date: Oct73-Aug74=000001-015000 Sep74-Nov74=015000-060000 280z 2 seater=HLS30(F)(A)(U)(V)(N) Applied Date: Dec74-Jul75=200001-270000 Aug75-Jul76=270001-350000 Aug76-Jul77=350001-420000 Aug77-Jun78=420001-470009 280z 2+2=GHLS30(F)(A)(U)(V)(N) Applied Date: Dec74-Jul75=000001-030000 Aug75-Jul76=030001-060000 Aug76-Jul77=060001-110000 Aug77-Jun78=110001-124742 Cheers Mike
  15. I agree I think the RS30 had a total production run of 21,000 ish. Compare this to over 100,000 240z (forget the HLS30 or the RLS30 etc ie LHD cars, but then if you do count them the US only got 260z in 74 and part of 75 = lowest production run of all Zeds) I think the 2+2 were in the 100,000 mark also.
  16. I have a 260z 2 seater ad somewhere in my collection. I will dig it out and visit my mother (who has a scanner) then I will see if I can convert to PDF or something and then attach here. Cheers Mike
  17. I have both 240z SU and EFI sitting waiting for me to choose. I will be going EFI as for the road will be better option + I get to learn about EFI (I have only had zeds with SU or triples before) so I have megasquirt that will put together, N42 non EGR intake manifold and RB20DET o-ring injectors and I have a o-ring fuel rail coming from the US + I will be installing the BMW 735i TB on the front (67mm) So EFI gets my vote. But for a racecar - triples either EFI or Carbs is the way to go.
  18. Mine been off the road of 7-8 years. Spent a few living in Melbourne before returning to NZ to start a family, build a house and get the zed back on the road. Have a look at my web site (server is old so it is a bit slow - will be upgrading soon). I have purchased a few more bits of late and will post new pics in about 2 weeks.
  19. Hi guys - been a while since I visited last - I am in NZ so I can assist if need be. I am Auckland, NZ. I know you guys pay a lot of coin for the LD28 cranks. I know a few guys that have picked these up locally for between $50 - $200 for crank only. I got LD28 block with crank for $150. Shipping will still be a bit due to the weight might work out the same as getting a LD28 in Oz (not sure will need to look into it) I will get a price for shipping in the next few weeks (off to Melbourne for Business for 2 weeks again - will be full on so no time to meet and catch-up...bugger)
  20. Natez - just a question for you - if you want your Zed to be a corner to corner car then the RB is not a good option (this is my opinion only). My reason for this is that the RB is a heavier engine = the Zed 52/48 balance will be changed = a lot more suspension work required to get a good corner to corner car again. Again not a flaming just my opinion (+ I am old school all the way - showing my age now - just love the L Series it was what the car was designed around) If $$ was no object I am sure you would do the same as most of us find and install the S20 that was found in the 432zeds and the KPGC10 and KPGC110 aka early skyline GTRs. Cheers Mike
  21. Well - having just joined this forum (yes I know I am a kiwi - but if it counts for anything I did live in Melbourne from 2000-2003, during which time I missed by motorbike and zed back in NZ) anyway here is some info on the prices here across the ditch. A mint 71 240z (this is the rare red/orange with bone int) was for sale recently asking price $20K (yes that is NZ funny money)- don't think it sold. A 260z 2+2 was on our ebay (trademe.co.nz) with no reserve starting bid $5000 and noone put a bid in (and it looked mint) however I think it was a fairlady Z ie L20E injected. A 260z 2+2 with factory G-Nose (fitted as an option) asking price $7000 - no takers (however I am talking to the owner about the G-Nose - he does not like it that much - so I am going to see if we can work a deal - he want mags like the one I have and I want the G-Nose) A 240z race car with over $60K spent was advertised for $14K on trademe.co.nz for 1 hour before it got pulled (so I assume someone picked this up - a good deal I know the car and it had everything, coilovers, lexan glass, full cage, 3.0l motor, CR gearbox) There is a 260z 2 seater for sale in the local rag here in Auckland (has been for months now) states solid car no reg or wof (reg = registration, wof = warrent of fitness aka a road worthy which we have to do ever 6 months here in NZ) interior needs to be restored (ie it's poked) asking $10k Zed in Japan go for between $15K AUD to $30K AUD and mint ZG go for $50K and if you want a 432 then think about $80-100K or more
