Roberto Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Getting closer to paint time. Dale, here is your old roof (after lots of wet rubbing and several coats of primer). I am still yet to have the whole body at this stage, but nearly there. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted May 31, 2014 Administrators Posted May 31, 2014 Is that the undercoat or are you going black? Looking forward to seeing how this car turns out. Quote
Roberto Posted May 31, 2014 Author Posted May 31, 2014 Is that the undercoat or are you going black? Looking forward to seeing how this car turns out. Cheers Gav. This is the black primer that has been wet sanded with 400 grit and then made to shine with a wetting of wax and grease remover. Quote
CroS13 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 cant wait to see some colour on this thing! not too far to go now. Rudolf. Quote
vorn70 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Looking good mate. Looks like there will be some show to with all that go under the bonnet. Keep up the hard work, it looks like your getting the results. Quote
Fairlady Z Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Hoooooooo yeah! Looks fantastic. Keep it up! +1 Quote
Roberto Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 Well, I have finally put some paint on this car.... I used a 2K ISO cyanate-free epoxy acrylic enamel. Lots of gloss off the gun, but i will still cut it back and buff to get some specks and orange peel off. Doors, fenders, cowl, hatch and inspection lids will be done soon.... Quote
260DET Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 That paint shrunk your Zed! Acrylic is a good DIY choice I reckon, easy to touch up too. Quote
zzzzed Posted August 30, 2014 Posted August 30, 2014 Yayyy!!! You might have it ready by the next all jap day at this rate. Quote
vorn70 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Great colour choice. I can't edit to see the pictures of the whole car in paint. What colour are you doing your flares? Quote
Roberto Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Looks great, baby blue? Cheers. Colour is actually called powder blue, light blue or blue sky (all the same code) from 70's Chryslers. Yayyy!!! You might have it ready by the next all jap day at this rate. Yeah, all jap day in 2017l Great colour choice. I can't edit to see the pictures of the whole car in paint. What colour are you doing your flares? Satin black on the flares, wheels, bumpers, rear spoiler, window trims etc. Quote
Roberto Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 Cut and polish complete. Now the satisfying task of reassembly Quote
cracker Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 This is going to look soooo good! Love the colour, I think the scarcity will make it all the more sexy. ps. Great to meet you (again?) the other night - hopefully see you back in the zed soon! Surely all jap day is on the cards... Cheers James Quote
dat240z Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Very cool color scheme mate. Well done. How long roughly did the cut and polish process take you? Quote
peter t Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 Saw a Nissan Micra today and dammed if it isn't the same colour and I was thinking that would look nice on a Z and stuff me here it is. ;) 8) Quote
zzzzed Posted October 8, 2014 Posted October 8, 2014 I caught up with Roberto last Friday. This thing is going to look fantastic. Hopefully we see it at the Adelaide Datsun club mete in November. Quote
Roberto Posted October 8, 2014 Author Posted October 8, 2014 Thanks for the nice words guys! This is going to look soooo good! Love the colour, I think the scarcity will make it all the more sexy. ps. Great to meet you (again?) the other night - hopefully see you back in the zed soon! Surely all jap day is on the cards... Cheers James James, your zed was looking pretty spiffy too. Yeah, all jap day is looking like a goer. Very cool color scheme mate. Well done. How long roughly did the cut and polish process take you? About a day to cut with 1200 wet and then 2000 wet to a smooth surface avoiding the edges. Then about half a day of buffing. If I was to do it again, I would avoid the 1200 / 2000 and just use 1500. The 2000 didn't really get rid of all the 1200 scratches and it took a while of buffing to get them out. Quote
Roberto Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Some progress snaps. 95% completed Quote
KatoKid Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Saw a Nissan Micra today and dammed if it isn't the same colour and I was thinking that would look nice on a Z and stuff me here it is. ;) 8) Must be something about Micra's......they have a colour called Rio Latte that I nearly committed to but backed at the last moment .... cos I'm gutless Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 20, 2015 Administrators Posted February 20, 2015 Is that a gloss black stock bonnet or carbon fiber aftermarket 1? Car has come along mate, well done. Quote
Roberto Posted February 20, 2015 Author Posted February 20, 2015 Much more aqua in that Nissan Micra colour. I considered it too but thought I may regret it later. Gav, it's a CF bonnet from Otomoto. Fits really well. Quote
