Had to drop front and rear bars down to the panel shop today so took some shots.

Hatch, doors and all the front sheet metal pretty well done, gaped and aligned. Took some effort and time to get it to their standard but looks great.

Panel gaps look awesome. Coming from someone who has been fiddling with the door gaps on my own 240z recently.

Its a personal thing Gav but for me gaps can be the difference between a good looking car and a great looking car.....its not meant to be concourse but for the investment I have in this I want it as good as it can be.  ;D

Panel shop has been working on other customer cars so mine hasn't progressed at all...gave them a bit of a rev up and think we understand each other a bit better now!

Suspension time.....and time to tackle the job that give so many people a lot of grief.....myself included: Final score was one all. I won one and a spindle won the other.

There was no way my puller would budge one side even with copious amounts of oxy heat applied so ended having to bash the hell out of it, once it got moving it was a case of heat and bash, heat and bash....repeat numerous times.

The other side by comparison was relatively easy, moved about 20mm with no heat and then locked up which then required heat and would then move another 20mm....and repeat a few times but came out unscathed and reuseable.

Spent probably the best part of 5 hours on the media blaster cleaning up all my suspension and crossmember pieces ready for painting. I wanted a really tough satin black finish and asked a mate who builds cars for a others as a living and he swears by a Valspar product called TB543, he has tried powder coating and many other options and has found this to be the best by far. You can belt it with a hammer and it doesn't touch it......I've tried it and am sold on this! For Vic people its available from http://www.bodyshoppaintsuppliesbayswater.com.au/ there are other Body Shop Paint Supplies in Melbourne but don't know if they carry it.

All the BM heads say that standard clutches are really nice, light pedal but plenty strong especially in a light car so I ended up going with a new standard clutch ($600) as the dual mass flywheel looked pretty new and I couldn't justify the starting price of $1500 + cost for an aftermarket you bewdy clutch.

R33 GTS-T front brake conversion is nearly sorted, just waiting on a small machining job to be done and I will post some photos.

That Valspar product called TB543, do you spray paint it with a gun or does it come in rattle can form? Looks like a good finish.

Starting the laborious task of reassembling everything for the final time and making sure I don't cut any corners in regards to prepping, cleaning and painting etc.

WRX rack installed for the final time.....I hope!

Thanks guys for the kind words.

R33 GTS-T front brake conversion is sorted http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13582-r33-gts-t-calipers-onto-a-240/ I really wanted to persevere with this conversion for a few reasons:

  • The engineers like to see matching brakes from the donor car, I'm using R33 booster and MC as well. Will probably be using R31 on the back though.
  • I like the NISSAN logo cast into the calipers...keeping it in the family.
  • They are big arsed MOFO calipers and they are dirt cheap

Bit of a trial but well worth it in my opinion as the calipers and discs are cheap ($200 all up), some dollars required at an engineering shop (another $300) and some labor of your own to make the dog bones so $500 should get you a  pretty decent brake set up.

Note: requires 240 hubs, wont work with 260 hubs unless you use a different height disc. Fits my 16 x 8 +0 XXR's and I reckon will fit over 15's as well, will check this out and report back.

Hi Jeff.

Yep, got a spare pair of fronts. Guy selling them told me they were 260 struts....turns out they were 240 struts ;)

Just have to media blast them and they are off to MCA, probably next week.

Have you shot the paint yet mate?? This thing is so epic, can't wait to see the results..

Ha! Long way off paint yet.

Struts cleaned, blasted and painted ready to go to MCA next week.

Panel shop asked me to come down to inspect the car as they have pretty well finished all the body work prior to primer. Few little things but on the whole very happy with the quality of their work. Hope to have it home and start reassembly before Christmas.
