Spartan Warrior Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Does anybody have any information on the off white 260z on page 8 of this thread, extra pictures etc, thank you Quote
modular9 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 yellazed : I had a long post on how the end looks like a lamborghini ( or a aston martin vantage back end ) grafted onto a 240z and the front looks like the new mustang squished down to fit the 240z ( which it does ) but then it got me thinking. There isnt enough lateral thinking in the zed community. Sure there is the ampeater z that is awesome in the states and there is the ratsun thing as well, but not enough full on modding ( I am as guilty as the next man ). So though I think it is odd, it is a triumph in the re interpretation of the zed paradigm. And for that i think it needs a place in the hearts of all red blooded datsun fans. Quote
yellazed Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Modular9: Agreed - initially I was making all sorts of comparisons, e.g. Mustang front, Lambo hints, but as an overall 'look': I like it. People are busy putting modern running gear under the S30 and this kind of bodywork brings the whole package up to date. Ford have revisited the GT40, GM with the Pontiac GTO and if someone actually built this Z it would be a similar modern tribute to a timeless Classic. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 First nissan has to get rid of renault. than we may get something decent in the sport car range. just look at the tiida what a Heap of S^%T. that would be a great classic resurection for the Z. i would put my name ont he waiting list if nissan ever comes up with such car. (technically, though I know the owner of the first complied one in oz). The 350Z is a really good car and very much over looked by the Z community. I have had the pleasure of driving one and I know there is someone on this site with one who could further comment, but it really is a top car. Over rpiced in my opinion, but it is no short in the class, quality, finish and most of all, performance departments. Not to mention, although an import, so were 90% of the previous Skylines, you can import a V35 Skyline 350GT for around the $25k mark. It was released in the States and Japan (possibly a couple of other countries) and sold really well. It is a very similar platform to the 350Z using th same engine and suspension (softer spring setup though), but still not short of a few ponies under the bonnet and some real potential. I personally think they look really nice at the front, however the back is lacking something. (google it if you havnt seen one before). The purest Skyline owners have shunted them here in oz, because they left the original skyline inline 6 and hotplate tail lights, but theres only so long an engine series should last when there are better engines being developed. They admit they were wrong to have changed the tail lights, hence the new GTR having a more original skyline tail light setup. Anyways, some may notice I usually say something along the lines of, "this car is different and steered away from the usual, therefore, i respect it and its concept." Im not going to change that idea, this car looks pretty cool and would be a nice limited edition or something similar. /End Rant Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 well the new GTR is nice but somehow dont think they be selling like hot cakes at $150k plus car.if i had 150k for a car ill be looking at different badges. and to compete here im sure they be removing lot of things from it and wont be as good as the full loaded one. 350z is nice ive driven few too. i wouldnt mind one. but still i would like something closer to the original 240z than the 350z is. as for imports even the r35 not my cup of tea. looks too much Maximaish than again they are based on a 4 door car. not a true sports car. thats y i like this concept thing looks great has lot of the original lines but still modern. hope nissan gets their fingure out a bit more and starts giving more exciting cars that people can afford i say resurect back 200sx 180sx silvia EXA, and hotted up hatches like the pulsar SSS and ET turbo and a real nice retro looking z. sco_aus Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Obviously we have different opinions of a sports car (beating Porsche around Nurburg is sporty enough for me ). I dont see the number of doors as changing the fact that its a sports car, though I do see what you mean. The previous GTRs all kicked arse in their respective classes and even on the street, but i dont want to dwell too much on just Skylines (though they are a good example). I dont recall any companies ever replicating the exact car 30 years later. Has anyone actually done it? PS my previous post wasnt meant to be aimed straight at you, only the first line, more for anyone reading. Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 nah im cool no hard feelings i didnt think it was directed at me. i just said my 5c worth. everyone has their opininion. i do like when the manufacturers go back in time. ie new mustang, FORD GT40 (almost a exact copy of the original just more practical for people above 5ft.) GM camaro, PT cruiser prowler etc.. just to get back to the roots what made that name a brand. and my grudge against renault well they the ones that are pulling the shots now not nissan. getting rid of a cars like pulsar and replacing it with tiida and than stoping the S1X (s10 to s15) series platform all together (the silvia platform) been with nissan since the 60s. i guess they are rationalising trying to make a quick extra buck. mikedoeslife Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 All Zs should look like this. It's as simple as that. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted May 18, 2008 Moderators Posted May 18, 2008 Please everyone, stop showing zeds with those 432 grilles! I had 2 of them and got rid of 2 of them...It makes me feel worse... :'( Quote
Toecutter Posted May 19, 2008 Author Posted May 19, 2008 The blue car above is very nice all round...but...why not finish it off with the wheel caps, a small touch but something I notice every time I see this car. Hey how do you go about getting the steering wheel stitched up like that. Thats not a stock steering wheel is it? Oh and nice gear shifter, all very tastefully done. Quote

Oh and nice gear shifter, all very tastefully done. Sulio I believe that steering wheel is an optional JDM item. You can still get them. They are the Sports Combo wheel or something like that. I think the gearshift knob is also a Fairlady Z item (not 100% sure though). I think the Compo wheel is great myself. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I have to say I love the above blue car it realy does it for me but i do have a thing for blue ;D , Quote
zedevan Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 it looks as if the guy did a "sulio" - 240z rear lights on a 260z, as has the dash, door panels and side indicators? what brakes would they b on his car? 300zx? Quote
Toecutter Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 Gav, I'll have to look into the steering wheel and gear knob. Evan, yer the whole interior looks 260, must have installed the 240 rear lights, easy instal and they look so much better I reckon. Sulio Quote

LOL we will have to call the 240z tail light mod, the Sulio mod. . Actually that is a Fairlady Z, so the "260z" style dash board and interior is quite normal. You see in Japan the models and trim were very different and there is no "240z / 260z" dashboard style or interior rather its all Fairlady with different levels of trim depending on the model. I myself am still no expert, Nzeder (Mike) always has to correct me . However you will find that the different trims may also match different engine specs. Remember Fairlady's in Japan came with the L20 engine in both carb and injected form. The Fairlady ZG had the L24 and the 432 and 432r had the S20's. It can get very confusing, so buy a book from our book store which covers the whole story lol. Quote
NZeder Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 LOL we will have to call the 240z tail light mod, the Sulio mod. . The Sulio mod - I like it lets run with it I myself am still no expert, Nzeder (Mike) always has to correct me . And I am still learning too It can get very confusing, so buy a book from our book store which covers the whole story lol. And a number of the books on the market are incorrect which does not help and adds to the confusion too. Quote
zedevan Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 it sure is confusing! are you saying the 260z dash with 240 lights is normal? or having a 260z dash in a fairlady is? my only knownledge of this come from wangan midnight and the fact its a fairlady and has 260z lights lol. i would of thought that when they changed over to the 260z style dash they would of changed over to the 260z style lights? i'd love to buy some books mayb at the end of the year when i'll have money and the time to read them? hehe this thread needs some higher res photos of this car Quote

modular9 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 not really a look like but if i were to open my bonnet I would like it to have one of these in it. Photo from speedfreak and yes it is all installed and running but a naked engine is well... a naked engine ! Mike Quote

I have one of these wheels in my Zed, it is the factory competition wheel as advertised in the Datsun Motorsports catalogue from the early 70's, leather rim and 14" in diameter with original horn centre. Vary rare here in Australia (I have not seen of another) got mine from Lou Mondello (Roadter guru) who acquired it from Japan ......did not fit the Roadster so he sold it to me brand new in its original wrapper !
