Well here goes.......

The 24th is me in an auditorium. Watching random kids dance. Waiting hours....... For that 2 minutes that my daughter is dancing up the back of her group.

But I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!

The 25th is the JDM show at Como Park........ Just sayin

Oh, too funny  ;D

At this stage. The 17th and 18th are empty in my calender.

Would love to come over to Nose City.

17th and 18th locked in then  ;)

Have also been hunting down alternatives for the build, decided to see if I could source a steel not alloy based OEM Benz engine cross member that would mate up to the C32 and lend itself to modification for the build.

Came across this item which will also give me the option now of running a Benz steering rack.

Cheers

And so it begins - continues.  Who can't make that w/end now??  It's Thanksgiving - Superbowl - my dog's having puppies - have to wash my hair - what myriad of banal excuses will be postulated from here on?

Small update

OK, so November 17th and 18th are close approaching and there's a lot needed to make sure that the motor trans and diff are all ready for mounting as the chassis comes together.

The stash of cash had the cob webs dusted off and some serous shopping has been underway to secure some of the gear that will be needed.

Today I went out and made a somewhat rash decision but one I'm becoming more comfortable with, I decided that with all the space forward of where the motor will be sitting that an electric power steering rack was one the cards and I nabbed somewhat of a bargain in an RX8 electric rack as shown, then after speaking to Peter Mc it dawned on me that I was missing the EPS module that drives the Fugger, in a panic I got back on the blower and located it, so $650.00 later I now have the entire kit secured and on its way from Queensland, for those that want to get some technical info on the set up I have posted a diagram illustrating its basic functional faculties.

The Benz S500 cross member was picked up Wednesday and it will lend itself well to modification, have to love Benz, every gusset is stamped and numbered.

Engine mounts on there way, these are C63 AMG items.

And of course the Saleen Mustang T56 cross member which was still in Customs today but should be here tomorrow after its trip from the US.

Next step, well I'm putting together a mobile cradle for the engine and trans hopefully this weeken, I'm afraid that a Wollies shopping trolley is about to meet a tragic end and have its wheels amputated, (Thats a joke for any Wollies staff on the forum, it will be an ALDI Donner lol)

After I have it all mounted its off to John at Alloy Race Components in Mordialloc who will be cutting the adaptor plate and installing a custom flywheel, street version of their race clutch and associated hydraulics, here's a link for those interested.

http://www.alloyrace.com/products/52/Torque-Clamp,

I should have the engine trans back within a week or 2 ready for the weekend build.

For those that put their hands up, don't forget, 17th and 18th of November................

More as things progress.

Cheers

John

When I first read this I thought you meant a hydraulic rack with an electric pump.....electric rack though is the next step up. Not half ambitious are you John!

Any more info on the engine and vehicle speed inputs the control module sees? Just thinking about the type of signal and how you will generate the signal  more than the actual range (low to high). Of course it may not need these inputs to function but whether it delivers the intended feel and weight may change.

LOL Look who's talking my Bavarian friend !

Wheel speed input comes from the ABS, yes I know this car wont have it, but dont fret, rear wheel speed and an optical set up at the rear should fix that, while engine speed will come from the ECU, thats the plan anyway  ;)

Main input signal though is the torque sensor located on the rack itself.

1st pic comparison of Zed cross membber to BenZ cross member

2ns pic of Saleen T56 mount in relative lofation within tunnel

Remaining pics views of Saleen T56 mount on gearbox

All looks good  ;D

Someone mentioned to me recently that there is a requirement to retain at least one original cross-member (engine, gearbox or diff) or the car would be classified as an ICV rather than modified. I had not heard of this before but fortunately I am retaining the engine cross-member so it's not an issue for me.

I don't know the veracity of this comment but it might be something you should clarify with your engineer.

If you do speak with your engineer I would like to know what he/she says. Thanks.

Hi Peter

Yep Bottomley also mentioned that, so what Im thinking although it will probably be over kill, is to use the original Zed engine cross member less its engine mounts as the steering rack and lower control arm crossmember, the portion of the Benz member that will be carved away from the cradle shown will be sitting further aft hanging off the manufactured chassis and will only support the engine mounts for the W112.

Cheers
