Sirpent Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 sorry if none of that made any sense. got a bit of a headache Johnny, You made perfect sense to me, don't forget we are both Balkan Block heads so comprehension is not a problem. I know what you mean, what I am thinking of doing is stripping out all of the filler period first, then running an aluminium plate impregnated just below the surface across the top flat area where it looks like the pad gives way, underneath I will also run another in parallel and sandwich them together using a bead or urethane. After that I think you are right about using a heat resistant expandable material and reforming the pad, great thing is I wont need to finish it with a hard filler to get a paintable finish as all I want to do is have it stitch dressed in suede so the plan will probably be a skin or urethane over the reforms to give it an expandable but durable reskin. Cheers John Quote
RBZ 260 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I want to do is have it stitch dressed in suede Bastard that's what I was planning for my 240 good choice BTW. RE : dash restore sounds good what u plan. lots of work but it be solid. if u have a hard paintable surface may aid in resitance in surface cracking. even suede it may not crack but it may bulge/erupt incase it moves somewhere. Sirpent Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 Hi Crew, Still tinkering away this end, will update soon, but in the meanwhile the head never stops thinking and as I do I have come up with another hair brained idea some of you will probably salivate over and others want to poke sticks at. Found a taillamp alternative that fits almost to the millimeter within the tail lamp cavity area of an S30, and I cant believe no one has thought of this one yet ! It will need some minor modifications and a new tail lamp garnish fabricated so as to form a base and finish off the center number plate garnish, that said, if I decide to do this and it works, in which case I can have the base garnish replicated, would anyone else be interested? There are 2 clear area's, one is the reverse lamp and the other can provide the amber indicator, cost of these puppies landed here in OZ is around US$250.00 for the pair, no wiring or globes. If anyone is a ham at photoshopping, please download this pick and graft it onto an S20 Cheers John Quote
garvice Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Been done on a 280zx before Personally not my cup of tea, but here is the link if your interested. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=38974 Quote
Sirpent Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 Youre the man, At least that gives me some idea, these are a different design to the ones I pictured but the dimensions are the same, would wtill like to see them grafted to an S30 just out of interest. Cheers John Quote
nizm0zed Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Hell yea!!! I'll have a very amateur crack at it when i get home, i might be able to Photoshop it. As for whether to do it or not, yes, the stock lights are good looking, but they'll look dated against the modern front end. I say go for it!! Quote

Good man Alan Maybe it will inspire me to pull my finger out LOL No just kidding, some good and bad news i have been hiding, First the bad I NO LONGER HAVE THE ZED Well I do but its not at my residential address any longer and I feel empty without it I shifted it and all its BITS back to my folks place some 10 km's away, 3 times the amount of work space, no nagging wife saying " My BMW is going to get wrecked parked outside" and no kids trying to get to their bikes etc etc etc. This was a MAMMOTH task considering it had no wheels, suspension NUTHING ! and I had to do it on my own. Anyhow a pic of it in its new home, and also a first time ever full front on shot of the nose, now I can really get an idea of what it looks like, never had the space previously to get a good look. Cheers John P.S. hurry up Alan, I really want to see your craft. Quote
MaygZ Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Looks like it's flying. Better than an X wing fighter!! Quote

luvemfast Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Jeeeez John I nearly dropped my phone with shock at the thought of you getting rid of it. Looks a little big mental. Should be a piece of art when finished. Quote
nizm0zed Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 DISCLAIMER!!!!! I suck at photoshop. my last effort resorted in colouring in the computer screen with a marker and taking a picture of it, so, you have been warned... Quote
nizm0zed Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 knowing your quality of work John, it'll look 50 bazillion times better in the flesh... I still say do it. Quote
Stivva Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 I love the centre console! For two reasons. First, it looks fantastic, the quality of workmanship looks unreal! Secondly, I now know a Double Din head unit will fit in the space at the bottom, as I had wanted to do something like this (albeit, not as elaborate as your current setup). Keep up the quality work! Patch Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 Here is one done on 260z hard to find the same back shot for a 240z Quote
Sirpent Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Nismo and Patch Good try, but I will get the boy wonder I sporned to get off his ASS and have a crack at it, the kids unbelievable and owes me, will post when its done. Stivva, thanks mate, but the only thing I have to warn you about with the 2DIN is that the console has to be dissected and widened some 4cm's Cheers John Quote
Patch Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 You really need to know what there size is compared to the 240 , they look higher. here is a 240z I was playing with, I quite like them, as the 240 has the plastic chrome which needs fixing. Quote
Sirpent Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 Hi Patch Great job, I have actually done the measurements and they fit right over the raised edge of each reflector, so imagine the base having 10mm of clearance all around. Second, I think you will find that if you turn them upside down so as the one you have on the left is transferred to the right and visa versa they will look better again due to the angle of the lenses. And finally rather than a black base for the tail lamp panel, try a dark argent grey which wont clash as badly. Do this and I think you will capture what I have in mind. Cheers John Quote
Patch Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 If you can give me the measurements of the lights I can do it better , I have my 240 here to compare sizes, just need the size of those lights, other wise I am just guessing sizes. Is there only 10mm clearance around the lights and the red body.? Quote

Sirpent Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 UPDATE: I'm sure David (Katokid) is going to laugh his pants off when he reads this, nevertheless it just goes to show that no matter how much research you thought you have done, ITS NEVER ENOUGH ! In the past 48 hours I have learnt that the entire electronics system and hardware from a C32 sedan CANNOT be retro fitted into my car, that's the bad news. So after spending the better part of a day curled up in a fetal position sucking my thumb and thinking about my new position I tried to visualise exactly how the entire AGM package could work and came to the conclusion that dumping the auto trans, ECU and TCM and fitting a manual trans could allow me to move forward, what i have to do however is run something like a MoTeC M600 aftermarket management system instead. The reason for this is simple, after making another call to the UK and speaking to a tech at ATP about getting my ECU decoded so as to eliminate the security features I learnt that this was only part of the puzzle, the C32's ECU and TCM actually use telemetry from an array of other inputs such as the ABS, traction control, launch control and even suspension telemetry etc, if one of these telemetry streams is inactive the ECU and TCM read it as being a fault and the entire electronics go into limp mode. As we all know, Datsun even with all their visionary idea's in the 1970's never equiped my 260Z with such features and retro fitting them all from a Benz would end up costing me the price of a C32 sedan. If I was to use a manual stick shift like a Getrag with the MoTeC management system basically what I will be dealing with is a lump of metal with pistons injectors etc etc etc that the MoTeC can be set up for. I put my theory to Peter Mc and we did some soul searching on the phone and over the net last night and so far it looks doable. So now it looks like I will end up with not only the first S30 powered by a C32 AMG motor, but also the first C32 manual period "FINGERS CROSSED" David you can stop laughing now and get back to your Bavarian Brat LOL Cheers John Quote
