Why the half moon below each circle? Do you need the extra depth of the mount?

Posted

LOL

Garvice, no as its all getting cut out of a single billet plate, the cradle shows its lower control arm carrier below it and below that is the forwad control arm carrier that bolts to the chassis, hope that's what you are referring to.

Cheers

So,

Decided to email my shipping agent for an update on the motor, bad news, good news and bad news.

I decided to go with an Australian based agent, and I cant recommend them enough so far for the service to date.

Stewart is a great bloke and I would highly recommend him.

Anyway, due to some disputes over in the US, the motor and box which should have gone 2 weeks ago is now rescheduled for pick up this Friday, August 19.

But they have confirmed that it will be on the vessel "Cap Pasado" which is scheduled to leave port on the 4th of September, ETA - Melbourne:  September 25, the day I leave for New Zealand for a week !

Customs/quarantine costs.......I copped $875 for steam cleaning plus more for fumigation of the timber pallets. I reckon close on $2k of BS costs!

No.

You know it would be a more worthwhile thread if you did considering the snails pace of my progress LMAO

looking forward to seeing you make up the T56 to MERC adapter!!

Yeah me too Ben, have to speak to PMC about some details but it looks like I may retain the Benz bell housing and adapt it to the T56 gutts, lots of measuring and cad work to do though.

Hi crew,

Ok this is going to be an update and a big plug at the same time.

First, my engine is on the way, but as I mentioned previously not without drama's, the seller packaged the engine and trans onto a new plastic pallet I had delivered to him from DACO industries, Australian Customs and Quarantine services accept mechanical items secured on such pallets for importation, however that doesn't mean you can get it out of the States if the shipping firm at that end isn't happy with how its packaged.

The pallet and goods turned up at the "AMERICAN" shipping companies premises on the pallet, and they rejected it, my Australian agent is Stewart Garmey at TRADELANES GLOBAL SOLUTIONS PTY LTD who emailed me with the bad news.

I was stuck between a rock and a very far off place as far as what to do, but Stewart came to the rescue, he arranged with his Nephew in Seattle, Tony, to go pick up the pallet and goods, take it back to his workshop and repackage it in a closed treated pine enclosure over the top of the pallet.

Stewart emailed this morning saying all was well and that Tony had emailed him with a picture of the new packaging which he had dropped off to the shipping company.

A lot of business' state that they are car enthusiasts and can supply the goods or services we expect, but few come through with the promise, Stewart acts as the AUSTRALIAN FORWARDER TO THE NEW ZEALAND FESTIVAL OF MOTOR RACING CELEBRATING BMW MOTORSPORT, 2012 and I have to say went above and beyond the call of duty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

His nephew Tony has an interesting business in Seattle called Horizon racing

http://horizonracing.com/index.htm

As Stewart wrote to me "He maintains the historic racing collection for Brian McGaw in Seattle, races a pair of McLarens (M4A and M8C) himself, his big claim to fame was restoring and running Niki Lauda's World Championship T312 F1 Ferrari"

If anyone here is looking at shipping gear out of the States be it parts or motor vehicles, don't hesitate to contact Stewart via the following

Such is the way of importing bigger bits from OS! These same issues drove me to wait for the shared container space to be available, I was fortunate that nothing got damaged in transit which was my biggest concern.

Its not easy when you have to rely on others to make it happen on the other side of the world,  sounds like you got some great help. I found the whole process to be pretty stressful and wouldn't recommend it even if you had to pay a bit more to source something at a lower risk (through a local importer) it would be more attractive.

True David,

But think about this in the same way as having your kids (As we are both fathers)

Remember the trials and tribulations we went through night after night waiting for them to arrive? the endless moaning and groaning from our wives, the midnight dashes to Macca's to get a burger for them, the morning sickness and everthing else that went along with it?

This is a bit the same, but I know what gender, induction and HP will be coming out of that box shortly and its been worth the wait LMAO
