Sirpent Posted September 14, 2011 Author Posted September 14, 2011 Evan, I cant quote the exact ADR requirement as Paul only touched on it over the phone. The M600 reference is with regard to the MoTeC M600 I intend to use to drive the engine management, I would have to take a guess, but I would suggest that the 76 benchmark year may have something to do with vehicles starting to appear with the first primitive factory fitted management systems in Australia. If mine had been a 76 or later, that would have meant that I would have had to use the Benz management system the motor was released from the factory with. I'm also lucky as Paul has done some preliminary work and argued the pro's and con's of what my car would need to meet as far as emission standards, they initially wanted full compliance with standards as applicable in 2004 for the motor, but later relented and agreed that 75 emission standards based on the cars year of manufacture would be accepted, more reason to run the M600 so that Peter Mac can extract every last kw out of it LOL Cheers John Quote

John - From what I've been advised that is in complete contravention of the regulations. Good luck to you if you get it but I would strongly suggest that your engineer gets that in writing, if he/she has not already done so, so there will be no tears later, i.e. that particular VicRoads officer is no longer in that area of responsibility. Peter, I have faith in Paul, from the many people I have spoken too they all indicate that the man probably has the best handle on these matters, just to give you an idea of his background, I lifted this Bio short off the web "Paul worked as Family II Engine, Motor sport and Cylinder Head Senior Design Engineer at Holden for 6 years before becoming a Director of Roaring Forties and Automotive Performance Solutions. He was responsible for engine hardware design & development, integration of components into production, reliability and warranty issues for current and forward model 4 cylinder engines, including supercharging and turbo charging applications. Paul also worked as an Engineering & Technical Consultant for “Cast Alloy South Australia” on aluminium components supplied to GM for HFV6 projects, both in Australia and the USA as well as being involved as the Design and Development Engineer on New Elfin MS8 steering and suspension components. Paul was contracted as the Design and Development Engineer on Holden “Torana” show car brake, steering and suspension components. He is also a VASS signatory (Vehicle Assessment Signatory Scheme -Vicroads & DOTaRS)" Yeah, cos your going to need every drop, sooo under powered Ummmmm yeah, to keep up with you at the very least, let alone the monster my brother from up North is building LOL Quote
Sirpent Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 UPDATE Yeah I know you guys just love getting your rocks off to these regular bulletins..........."NOT" But I do LMAO My man emailed me and advised that the engine got past US Customs and is aboard the "Cap Blanche 245s", did a search on its current position and its around 400 Kms off the U.S. Coast, after leaving Seatle on September the 11th followed by it last stop in L.A. before departing. ETA Melbourne 1st of October 2011 YAY ! And no don't worry I wont be posting update position scans every day. Cheers John Quote

Sirpent Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Go Hawks Been following them since 1974 ! Was Footscray before Hawthorn came from 7 goals behind in the last 1/4 at the old Western Oval, I spat the dummy and changed teams that day ! Quote
NZeder Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Lol when I was living in Melbourne the team I followed was the Hawks as they were the closest team to where I was renting. However still the wrong code for a kiwi Quote

Was Footscray before Hawthorn came from 7 goals behind in the last 1/4 at the old Western Oval, I spat the dummy and changed teams that day ! Similar story for me...... Was 1983, I was in prep. Another kid asked "Who do you barrack for?" My family on both sides were Geelong supporters, but I sked "Who's on top?" Look through the history books to see who won the premiership in 1983. But I like to think its because Hawthorn is the closest club to where I live Just on a side note John, your build details are a little sketchy. Could you go into more detail for me please? Quote

Simon I see that in your recent posts you have been rolling your eyes, maybe its not that the thread isn't detailed enough but that you are suffering conjunctivitis, maybe try using some Jalna Yogurt on the eye lids when you go to sleep tonight. Sirpent Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 Hi crew UPDATES First, motor is here but I had to get the consignment fumigated at the request of AQIS, it should be in my hands by the middle of next week now at an additional cost of $300.00, all in all not bad considering what (David) Katokid had to go through. Second update, and this one couldn't have come at a better time, as of Monday, after 13 months out of work, I take up the post of Sales and Marketing Manager Australian East Coast with EPAC (A division of RACV) my thanks to the few members that knew about my plight and consistently looked out for me, your support and friendship, calls and words of encouragement always pointed to that light at the end of the tunnel and I will always be indebted to you all. So, please watch this space as the build is about to go into quantum drive from here on in. Cheers John Quote
benny Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Awesome news john!! Hope you enjoy the new position!! Quote

luvemfast Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Everything's coming up Millhouse! Great news John. Its on the up and up now. So we can finally see some progress as you barely do anything Quote
Sirpent Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 So we can finally see some progress as you barely do anything Yes Simon I'm sure there will be a lot of late nights for you just trying to keep up with the updates and progress posted in this thread LMAO No you are right, I have done a lot of planning over the past many months and no physical progress so to say, that's been dictated by funding, but its been worthwhile as it has allowed me to think deeply about what could be done which I believe has been a positive also. Lurch, thanks Buddy, but get ready, your welding skills will be called upon shortly, the holiday is over. And Mike, thanks also, next time you are over from the other side of the ditch, I look forward to catching up and giving you a close and personal look in on the car. Cheers John Quote
jamo240 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Forgive me John, but what engine is it that has just arrived? Interested to hear what you're doing with ur 260. Also, what is the full name of the engineer you're working with...I know most of the engineers from when I was at Holden, and am interested in views about who to use for the VASS on my car. Cheers Jamo Quote
Sirpent Posted October 7, 2011 Author Posted October 7, 2011 Good stuff John on both fronts! Thanks David, Look forward to eventually parking it alongside its Bavarian M3 Nemesis some day, at least its now more of a reality that I can start spending again. $300 didn't seem to hurt that much when I think about what you went through. Forgive me John, but what engine is it that has just arrived? Interested to hear what you're doing with ur 260. Also, what is the full name of the engineer you're working with...I know most of the engineers from when I was at Holden, and am interested in views about who to use for the VASS on my car. Cheers Jamo LOL Jamo Yeah guess this is a long thread to read, apologies for that. Engine is a M113 AMG Supercharged 3.2L V6 out of a 2003 C32 AMG sedan, rated at 265kw and 450 Nm torque, I will be running a 6 speed T56 behind it with an M86 3.461 diff out of an XR6 turbo, engine management will be a MoTeC M600. Engineer is Paul Bottomley. Considering this is all new to you, your thoughts? Quote
jamo240 Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Hey John....I worked with Paul Bottomley at Holden...he's a good guy. I may well use him for my car given he must be familiar with Z's now. Re your engine decision....that's a sweeet engine you've got there. I would always recommend matching the factory transmission with the engine, as there's a lot of science in getting the two to work together...is the T56 a factory Benz trans? But hey, even if it's not, you'll have fun putting it all together! Why are you going with an XR6 diff? The R200 is plenty strong, and would eliminate the need for all the mods to put the Ford diff in? Am sure you've thought it through though, so if there's a good reason, why not! I'll look forward to seeing it when it's done. I am on the home straight with mine now, so enjoying the taste of having all the hard jobs behind me, and now working on the enjoyable final assembly and detail work. Cheers Jamo Quote
mossy Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Congrats on the new job John, so you weren't interested in going back to panel beating? Quote
