This is a great project, man. First impressions when you see the car before you get stuck in one thinks, well, this looks pretty solid, but once you get into it, there's a lot of work to be done. I'm watching with interest as I'm nearing the purchase of a project myself and keen to see how yours comes together. You've got some rellies in the family with essential skills, so that's gotta be a big plus as well. Good luck with it, and the videos are great quality and enjoyable to watch. - Peter

Peter thanks for your kind words mate. Yes the car looks great from the outside, but a lot of hidden work to do. I’m very lucky indeed to have my uncle and dad to guide me. Thanks for your feedback on the videos, means a lot to me, I was never going to create a channel as it seemed so foreign and self absorbed to me. I was just going to take some video and time lapse for myself. But I’m really glad I decided to do it as it has given me a creative outlet and I am really starting to enjoy it. Still terrible at speaking in front of the camera and say ummm every second word! But plan to make the videos better and better. Hopefully all my mistakes help you when your project starts!

Exciting new development today! I have sourced a Subaru R180 LSD diff for my car!

I have a classic z specialist here in Perth, he’s possibly on this forum but not sure. But bought from one of his other clients.

Apparently all I need is a front flange and backing plate from my stock 240z diff for the drive shaft join and some adapter plates to mate the 240z halfshafts to the diff. These adapter plates are made out of Japan and will be on order soon. I may also need a different moustache bar but we will see.

Will come out cheaper than the Quaife option hopefully. Still pricey though.... but can you put a price on not lighting up your inside rear wheel mid corner?

So these are the kameari Subaru R180 diff to half shaft adapters. They are really pretty.... 8) so the splines go into the Subaru diff and flanges onto stock halfshafts. Chuck your stock z diff front face flange and diff backplate onto the Subaru R180 and hey presto 240z LSD for under 2k!

My z man has to check the internals on  the Subaru diff to make sure everything’s healthy and then it’s a done deal!

Another update, my KFvintagejdm rust replacement panels are in perth! Funny it takes under 5 days to get to Australia and then the brakes get applied, been in oz for 5 days now. Possibly will get delivered tomorrow but if not I might see if I can pick up Tuesday as I fly home Tuesday morning!

Yes, nice work, but please please DO NOT let your next post be:

"Hey guys, how do you get the spindle pins out? - I've tried all the ham-fisted techniques I know and I've butchered the threads but I can't get them out"

Hahahaha I have read enough of those posts too Pete lol I did try and get them out and mushroomed one side. I knew they’d be rusted in. Going to bring to a shop and press them out. Really like the little tool I think z car depot sell to get them out, but for 80USD will just pay someone to press them out lol

You can make a puller yourself for <$10.
Whatever you do, soak them in penetrating oil - acetone and auto fluid - for a few days before you try pressing or pulling them out.

Sweet I'm gonna try this! I'll do up a video tutorial.

Soak in all three?! or just one of the above?

MZR restorations look great. The Singer of the Datsun world. Starting at about A$140k (£80k) I think they are pretty good value for what you get.

Jeff

It would certainly be nice to be able to afford an MZR car! Yeah exactly like singer, love the passion they put into the cars

My car never came with a oem steering wheel, so I was considering the jdm comp steering wheels from MSA. But after a poor review of them  by Peter T and my z man here in perth I decided to see if I could find a stock one. Looked online and most are around the 300 to 500 USD dollar mark . Quite pricey....especially with shipping.

asked my z man if he had any available and he did! It’s rough, but it’s mine! And it’s a much more reasonable price than ones from the states.

A little resto and it should come up nice!

Good choice Ryan.

That will look great with some work. The horn pad even look in OK condition. I restored my wheel and I'm very happy with it. The steering can be heavy with these cars so a big wheel helps. I went for the polished spoke look rather than the black.

Cheers Jeff

I am a fan of the black spokes but see what I end up doing with the interior of my car before I make the call.

That come up nice Jeff! I’ve been through most of your build thread but must finish going through it, lots of golden nuggets of info I’m sure!

The silver black wood combo is very nice, what product did you use for the wood? I like the tint, I find some people use a product that has too much red in it. I don’t know what the stock color is like

Did you get a new horn pad or just repaint or clean up the original?
