TomC18 Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Still waiting a paint, but these panels are available for about a third of the RB ones i suspect, by the time you land them in OZ ... OdinZ 1 Quote

260DET Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 "Shirley the deciding factor on body kit/body panel legality (apart from good taste...) will be the rules and regulations of the races the car is going to be entered in?" I've got to ask it. "Who's Shirley" Sorry . Couldn't resist it. 'Shirley' is his alter ego, sorry, couldn't resist it. Quote
hmd Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Ps, thinking about doing the No 23 paint scheme on my car, or similarTom, Which #23? There are 2 of them. Quote
kamarchi Posted April 12, 2018 Author Posted April 12, 2018 Hmmm, it has been a while since reading the regulations but sure body kits are permitted in most classes with the exception of classic/historic racing. I will need to review the regulations, but looking at doing some supersprints, drifting and maybe time-attack. I like the Rocket Bunny kit, however I am not wedded to the idea if it limits my options to much. Happy to take any advice from those who are currently spinning laps :-) Quote

Happy to take any advice from those who are currently spinning laps :-) I think you will find there are more restrictions on what you can drive on the road, than on the track, unless you are aiming for a specific category, but time attack does have specific rules My car was built to the old Marque Sports Rules, similar to Prod Sports, so no rear wing Quote
TomC18 Posted April 12, 2018 Posted April 12, 2018 Nice, not sure about the GM related blue 'lion' though. Yep, me either, and i may not do all the pinstriping. but following that basic colour scheme I would be interested if anyone knows why there is a blue lion?? Quote
HS30-H Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I've got to ask it. "Who's Shirley" Sorry . Couldn't resist it. Shirley is just "Surely?" turned up to 11. I know you're a few years behind the times down there and your family cars are Vauxhall Vivas in drag, but come on... Quote

kamarchi Posted April 13, 2018 Author Posted April 13, 2018 another question for the collective :-) I want to ensure that the car remains road registrable, anyone know of a Sydney engineer/certifier that would not mind consulting on the build? Regards Gary Quote
ZED660 Posted April 13, 2018 Posted April 13, 2018 I just had my car engineered at Consulmotive, 77 Anderson rd, Mortdale and John was very good to deal with. He is busy and doesn't always answer his phone straight away it is usually best to leave a message on his mobile 0412 253973 and he will call you back. JDM-TOY 1 Quote

He was very helpful even though he knew he would not get any direct business out of me. I can also recommend Peter Gillard from Leichhardt. Dealt with him 14 years ago and as per above, he took time to help me last week. Quote

Actually I remember that we had a Vauxhall family car when I was a kid in the early 60's. Lol. Quote

kamarchi Posted April 20, 2018 Author Posted April 20, 2018 With the Z being predominately a track car i would like to update/upgrade components not intended for repeated disassembly such as the metal fold/pinch fasteners that secure the wiring loom and hoses to the chassis, anyone seen any good alternatives to the OEM ones? Thanks Quote
260DET Posted April 20, 2018 Posted April 20, 2018 P clips, from the rubber lined metal ones to the plain nylon ones will cover pretty well everything. Quote
kamarchi Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Another quality repair uncovered anyone know where i can source a replacement spare tire well? Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 25, 2018 Administrators Posted April 25, 2018 Repair it, much less work than removing it. Looks like you just need to grind down the welds to smooth it off. GregTas 1 Quote
kamarchi Posted April 25, 2018 Author Posted April 25, 2018 Repair it, much less work than removing it. Looks like you just need to grind down the welds to smooth it off. The previous repair was so poorly done (crappy lap weld, no primer or rust treatment) that 1/4 of wheel well to the left of the repair has now basically rusted out. Z Car Depot sell a handmade reproduction (https://zcardepot.com/spare-tire-well-sheet-metal-240z), a bit expensive at $459USD + shipping though I will look for a donor cut but hold little hope given the difficulty i am having sourcing a battery tray and inner guard cut. The joys of Datsun life :-) Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 25, 2018 Administrators Posted April 25, 2018 I have a spare wheel well piece, but I am not sure if we will use it for HS30 00051 or repair the existing tub. But when and if we use it I don't know. So can't say if I'll have it spare for a long time. I think there might be variances with 2+2 tubs (fuel tanks are slightly different), but might also be very close. They are not all rusted at this stage, depends if the owner had a good rear rubber seal or not in most cases. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted April 25, 2018 Administrators Posted April 25, 2018 At $459 USD + shipping ($300 USD no doubt) - You'd be better off going to the MotorRetro place in Seven Hills and having access to their tools and help to fabricate your own piece. May also be same for your battery tray area. Just a thought! Quote
