The Fairlady Z432, Z432-R and Skyline GTR KPGC10 gearbox was the same as the 5 speed F55C71A we got in our early Datsun 240z's.

The price on that auction is a bit crazy though! I've seen them selling in Japan around $1000 - $1,500 in unknown shape.

I paid about $800 AUD for mine (to suit #150) recently.

All depends on what you want, I wanted the early box so that the gearbox hole would line up with the shifter and I wanted to experience the early style box (sounds dirty). It just felt more 'correct' to put it in my car and I'm not aiming for big HP at this stage.

Seems like a lot of coin to me, I'll stick with the S13 box  :)

I don't think it will sell at that price, but then again the early gear boxes are getting harder to find now.

The bellhousing is different on S20-powered models though, so that's a lot of what you are paying for there. The bellhousings alone can change hands for 200,000 JPY. This particular 'box has been rebuilt and modified as well.

The FS5C71-A was fitted to L20A-powered S30-series Zs as well (specifically the Fairlady Z-L model) and early L24 models, but also (first!) to the C10-series Skylines with L20 and L20A engines and a couple of other sedan series too. Nissan made quite a lot of cars that used them, but it's mainly the S20-powered models that are dragging their demand and prices up.

Thanks for clarifying Alan, I didn't realise the lower spec S30Z's had them also. Price makes sense when you consider the bell-housing is unique for certain models.

There's a US seller that had some NOS stuff listed on eBay. The wheel covers ended up fetching a tidy sum. But I suppose if you are doing a full original restoration, you're not likely to come across another brand new set of these anytime soon so you'll probably pay whatever you need to. The $3,200 AUD that they sold for would pale into insignificance of what will be spent all up doing the full restoration.

Yeah heartbreaker, I was watching that auction and saw 1 bid at $1,500... I didn't think they would go that high. I thought maybe $2,000 USD at most.

I recently picked up 2 more 'stray' caps in need of restoration. So I've got enough to make 3 complete sets now. I was going to keep 2 for myself and sell the third restored set but I am starting to think I'll just hang onto stuff now....

I had a feeling particularly you or maybe others may be watching so thought I'd wait until after it finished before commenting.

I saw it end and not surprisingly someone sniped it as it went from $1700 US to $2377 US just as it ended.

It's not bad buying really, when you consider to re-chrome my tired caps it's probably going to cost $150+ for each corner, then you gotta paint them, then get the center emblem's plastic chromed and paint them also.

I reckon you could invest $200+ for each corner, but you gotta find the caps first. These were not the 'earliest' type but that's a bit moot I think.

So you could invest $1,500+ sourcing and restoring these things, maybe more now? The caps are getting very hard to find. Can find lots of the later style, but not the earlier ones.

Then finding TOPY wheels is another challenge. Can find plenty of later ones, but earlier 70 date stamped 4.5j. That's hard.

I'm always watching lol..

If I was doing a stock resto there is no way I would pay that sort of money for hubcaps, as soon as you go for your first drive they are used, not to mention you'd be looking out at the mirrors while you were driving is case one comes off!

Different strokes and all that... but I actually like the steel wheel look. So I'd only put them on at car shows or in the garage I think.

I'd be more worried about them getting stolen by some prick than actually falling off.

I'd actually love to have a stock car besides mine :) . As everyone has seen NOS parts are going through the roof, I'd hate to add up the bill at the end of a build with a heap of NOS parts

Yeh, it would be scary to see the total.

It does suck that everything in general is going through the roof. Hopefully we get to see the benefits of this in the future.

For a while I've been thinking I should hold off and not do anything much to my car being that it's an earlier build number, to possibly protect any percieved additional value in the car. Maybe even look at selling and buying another that has been modded/upgraded a bit already. But given that they are all thin on the ground now, I think I will have to just stick with what I've got and go from there. Not that I'm planning on doing anything major like an engine conversion. But it's not within my means or budget to do any sort of full on original restoration either. I'd certainly prefer to spend $3200 on some suspension or engine bits rather than a set of hub caps personally.

But if money was no object, a nice original stocker would get a place in my 10 car garage.

My hope is that an increase in values (of NOS parts but also cars) will mean more demand for good reproduction parts. It's amazing what you can get for Early 911's now thanks to their values going through the roof!

Noticed in the other items section of 260Z 2+2 Fuel filler neck Eparts4yourcar add the following 240Z parts , a pr of sun visors & also a 240Z speedo.

Finished at USD685. Unbelievable

This actually is a concern as it means the break up value of S30's is rising and the theft risk will likely follow :(
