It never ceases to amaze me what NOS is lying around.

Only last week I was at a dealer who had a pile of old Landcruiser 40 stuff he has had for 30 odd years.

There is a big time window between being current stock and sort after NOS. Unfortunately the cost of storing this stock often outweighs the financial benefit for the dealer.

That's the catch 22 isn't it? You need the storage space and storage space = money.

I would have considered buying Warren's stock at All Z Parts, but once you factor in storage space + eBay fee's + time involved to package and send goods etc.. I realise my day job pays better.

That is why, if looking for NOS a country dealer is a better bet.

They don't have the same real estate costs for storage and, as a generalization, are less inclined to dump stock based on an aging policy.

I though about Warren's stock as well, but for me the bigger problem would be getting a realistic handle on exactly what he has, what condition it is in and finally, what is it worth ??

He warehouse is a virtual rabbits warren (no pun intended) of parts both new and used.

Same with what's in Lindsay Z Shop in Melbourne, he got so many good bits there and have helped me out quite a few time with parts for my race car.

The storage cost and the time you spend answering calls/emails on $50-$200 parts would make you go broke.

Definitely, this is why hardly anybody supplies parts here for S30Z's.

I know the 260z factory alloys have been going up in price but I had to chuckle at $1000 for a set.. .

Given what they can and do sell for in Japan and or the North American markets I'd say it's not a bad price. They look in good shape and have the center caps!

Can make out the number 91 on the casting but looks like at the end of something rather than the start

Hi Gav..

Since you have been through the process could you tell me what further work something like this would need to be fitted to a L28.

Thanks

It looks somewhat ready to go, apart from the brass valve seats, you would want to make sure the weld repair was good but it's not uncommon to be required on the earlier heads due to corrosion. Mine needed quite a bit of love in that regard.

This looks like it needs cam towers installed (you would want internally oiled ones - to eliminate the spray bar) and camshaft spec is up to you. I'm not sure why it's listed as a 'race head' so you would want to see what port work was done.

I'd guess you may need to sink another $500-$1000 in it depending on what you want to do with it vs what's already done. It may not need that much money but I always over-estimate so I'm pleasantly surprised when it's cheaper. Shipping will be the expensive part.

I spent close to $2,500 on my E31 head and I already had the head and cam towers, internally oiled camshaft etc..

Thanks seen it, but since the original clocks are pretty unreliable I have the internals replaced with a Quartz movement unit instead. It's good that it's working though!
