d3c0y Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Hhmmmm,,, Starts thread about lacking content,,,,, Becomes hot topic,,,,, Full of "content" Eh? I think the number of responses are just confirming Simon's post haha. Quote
fluegel Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 The past 9 months I've been busy on and off redoing the suspension on my 76 2+2. I did the back first with 8 new Nissan rubber bushes in the control arms and urethane for the sway bar and mustache bar. New KYB shockers from Datsport at $500 the set, painted most bits with hammerite. the ride was generally harder until I did the front when things seemed to balance out so the ride is now firm but no nasty jarring to mess with our baby boomer backs, the back suspension took about a month. The front took 33 days with some breaks new nissan rubber bushes in the control arms and rubber for the radius rods new ball joints throughout and I even got the steering rack reconditioned just to be sure, I greased the top bearing of the steering columm The rest of the bushing is urethane also new thrust bearings in the struts and new shockers of course. The steering is really nice particularly coming into a long curve at the top of the SE freeway it is still heavyish compared to power steering but was considered to be light in its day. Bump steering has completely gone. I now intend to replace the hard urethane bushes in the mustache bar with original rubber as they are useless to absorb shock and vibration from the diff. I think redoing the suspension and steering is well worth the time and cost because the car handles, rides and steers like a new car. Richard Quote
Six_Shooter Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I think reddit has a decent setup, ie 1 big list of threads. Take all the tech sections on here, they should be rolled up into 1 big tech section, and prefixes added to the thread for body, engine, etc. Currently people may only want to read the engine section, and dont look at the others. If you roll them all into 1 section, they will still see the engine threads, plus others that they may then participate in. If that was the only way to view this forum, I would stop coming here. I don't go on Reddit partly because of this, lack of organization IMO, and I just don't care about the random stuff posted on there, I just can't waste that much time. The format just seems liek a cop-out, liek they really didn't know how to organize the forum so they just make it one long list. FWIW, there already is a single list of recently replied to threads at the bottom of the main forum page. Quote
DreamZproject Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 How's this for crazy? Taking on a full rotiss resto with absolutely 0 experience in any sort of welding/ body work/ 99% of things to do with cars! http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,11066.75.html Got back into it yesterday. Quote
pauly_adams Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 ill be posting up a turbo 280zx build soon, that is once I get my new ecu and all my new goodies in Quote
Agno Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I think the lack of content comes back to the size of the (shrinking) regular user base. Outside of the end of year Christmas BBQ it is very uncommon that any sort of event occurs and without social events there is less incentive to actually frequent the site or for new members to stick around outside of the classifieds section. Just my $0.02 Quote

620Z Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 I think Alex (Agno) has hit the nail on the head. Lack of social activities. Since our regular meetings sort of died off along with some enthusiasm of some key members we are struggling down here in Vic with the social scene. Getting drives organised seems to lack numbers for what ever reason. Maybe we need to organise another Vic meeting at the Jag Club to get the ball rolling? I am happy to organise if we got enough interest. Admittedly I have dropped off the radar a little. But happy to ramp up the enthusiasm if we get enought interest. Quote

Riceburner Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Simon, one reason for part of it would be what we were chatting about recently Seems to be quite a few builds happening, although I don't think there's as many build threads being done and the reasons for that I'm not sure. I would've thought everyone who had a car would have a build thread, it's a great way to keep track of the work done to the car if you ever decide to sell up and you'll get plenty of encouragement, advice along the way. Hi , i intend to get some threads up soon , lots off pics and vids , just getting started ,after 6 months off We'll hold you to that Pete! Quote
Z. Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Just trying to start my build thread now but the photos won't upload when I attach them to the post it just says an error has occured. I've tried on two different computers now and still the same issue. Pictures are less than the max allowed (3 pics x roughly 86kB each). Any ideas? "Your attachment couldn't be saved. Hi mate, I just bumped up server space yesterday (we were running out). Can you verify it's still happening? If so I'll review the settings and see if I can replicate the problem on my end. Quote

260DET Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Do people really read the real technical stuff? My impression is that if there are not lots of pics to look at then not many will stop to read anything much past a line or two. There is heaps of tech stuff in the projects section, the trouble some go to post stuff up in detail takes a lot of work and time. My impression is there is a lot of quick scanning going on without much acknowledgment so the poster has no idea if his work is of interest. From my perspective the site is going well but it's up to those interested to make meaningful posts if they are interested. After all, it's not up to some to bust their boogie to provide 'material of interest' to suit what others want. Quote
d3c0y Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 This is pretty much why i moved to doing my project on facebook. Quote
260DET Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Yep, I'm resisting Facebook in preference to dedicated Z sites like this which deserve support but sometimes I wonder why bother. Quote
peter t Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 I loved posting things as I built my Z and got great feed back and help from all the people on this site and still add things as I go. Maybe there is too many people trolling sites these days for info without getting involved with our every day chatter. Some guys haven't finished their projects since I first become a member five years ago and I can understand the reasons why but I can also see that there are only a certain amount of people who wish to share their experience's with others. A lot of Z car owners are not on this site. My two bobs worth. Quote
PeterAllen Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 ... Some guys haven't finished their projects since I first become a member five years ago ... Gee, how slack is that... Quote
chris240 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Bring back the state by state forums like we had. Quote
d3c0y Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Why? That would split the content up even further. Quote
Riceburner Posted May 22, 2015 Posted May 22, 2015 Bump! Is it just me or is this happening again, perhaps it is seasonal leading into winter? It just seems of late whenever I have logged on or looked on the site all we have is car for sale listings. It's almost as if it's a car sale review site rather than an enthusiast club website. It's not a knock on the forum but perhaps it's a sign of the times I guess, less cars=less builds :-\ For me it certainly seems like the 'Real' content nowdays is few and far between... Quote
