Riceburner Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Have you watched The Intouchables. You may suprise yourself. By the way it in French with sub titles +1 Great movie! Quote
George Posted August 3, 2013 Author Posted August 3, 2013 Just watched it. Memorable stuff. It's not a good idea to go in to a movie with high expectations as you're often disappointed. I had high expectations and was pleasantly surprised. Very good film. Thanks. Earlier today I watched Mud (2012). Fine way to pass the time. The kid was excellent and worth watching just for his performance. Quote

George Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 Over the past few days I've seen three films. Before Sunset 1995 Before Sunrise 2004 Before Midnight 2013 On their own only the first one has something special. As a whole though, they are magnificent. It follows the relationship of a couple that meet in Vienna in 1995, spend only one day together and fall in love. They meet again in 2004 and spend one afternoon in Paris. The third film brings us up to date with their relationship in 2013. To say more is to give it away. If you like Woody Allen films you'll love all of them. Bit of a warning though, If you don't drift too far off Fast n Furius type movies, don't bother. Quote
nizm0zed Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I watched Friday, Next Friday, Friday after next the other night(s) just for something different. twas somewhat amusing (moreso when i was younger) Last night i watched Oblivion. That was a very good movie, but i am a sci fi addict anyway. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I enjoy those one as well George. What does that say about our taste in moves. NizmOzed have you watched logans run or Blade runner ? they are old old but goody Quote
George Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 I enjoy those one as well George. What does that say about our taste in moves. There's nothing more manly than admitting you enjoy the occasional romance flick Oh, and one of my fav's is Blade Runner. Such a visual feast. Quote
George Posted August 25, 2013 Author Posted August 25, 2013 The Place Beyond the Pines (2012) - Was not what I expected at all. In saying that, I really enjoyed it and rated it 9/10. It felt like a really mature production. Quote
44014 Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Oblivion , was pretty good despite the fact tom cruise is the main charactor! And i watched cars 2 for the 3 billionth time on sunday arvo thanks to my 3 year old. Quote
George Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Now You See Me (2013) and then you wish you hadn't. Pretty average with unbelievable twists and even more unbelievable 'magic'. Now if only they could make my night reappear. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted August 26, 2013 Posted August 26, 2013 Try shock treatment I believe that works according to my 1960 medical Journal At least you didn't watch Blue Valentine with Michel William. Quote
George Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 At least you didn't watch Blue Valentine with Michel William. When did you last watch that? Blue Valentine is a polarising movie. I also think it's easy to dislike it if you're not in the correct mood. It's the same for most movies actually. If I had watched Now You See Me in a better mood I might have enjoyed it somewhat. It must be close to 2 years now but I recall enjoying Blue Valentine. It's emotionally charged. Quote
dat240z Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I notice you dont mind a good movie George!!! Man you get thru a few! Quote
lightmaster240z Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Saturday night I watch it and was a little Bord with it on real story line. Quote
George Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Great Gatsby (2013) was on the airwaves last night and it pleased like most Baz productions do. I think I enjoyed the extravagance of it more than the story. It was over the top at times and it's easy to criticise it but sometimes you just have to let go and enjoy it for what it's worth. 6/10 I notice you dont mind a good movie George!!! Man you get thru a few! Not as many as I would like! Quote

dat240z Posted August 28, 2013 Posted August 28, 2013 Now You See It. Team of magicians pull off massive heists all over the world. 9/10!!! Awesome cast, loads of entertainment. Must see. Quote
George Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 R.I.P.D. (2013) - I call these high-budget-low-budget movies. They spend lots of money on what is essentially, or rather should be, a low budget movie. It's a bit of fun and is a bit of a spin on Men in Black. 4/10 for the annoying accent put on by Jeff Bridges. Quote
chris240 Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 George, (our resident movie reviewer ) , whats your take on "rush" The Niki Lauda flick, Im 50/50 on whether I should go and see it.. Quote
George Posted September 1, 2013 Author Posted September 1, 2013 Rush is out on 3rd October and I haven't seen it yet. Certainly one I'm looking out for. It's directed by Ron Howard who is a bit hit and miss for me but one thing is for sure, he makes films with substance so expect this one to be more than just your average car racing film. Incidentally Ron Howard was in American Graffiti (1973) which is an absolute classic and if you haven't already seen it keep your eye out for it. Here's one on eBay for $13. One to own http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/American-Graffiti-DVD-/271267792885?pt=AU_DVDsBlurayDiscs&hash=item3f28d207f5 If that doesn't float your boat, check out Senna (2010). I suspect most of you have seen this but it's worth mentioning in case there's one out there who hasn't. It's not a film as much as a tribute documentary and all the more entertaining for it. It is emotionally powerful and I don't mind admitting it has brought a tear to my eye the first few times I watched it. It even manages to win over non car enthusiasts so get your family involved. I first saw it at a film festival with a broad demographic and the applause was overwhelming at the end. I have also watched it with my other half who is about as interested in car racing as my grandmother is in death metal and she absolutely loved it. Trailer - Quote
PeterAllen Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The trouble with 'Rush' is that I know the ending! The Anoraks are already having a field day with it, e.g. NL is not wearing an AGV at Nurburgring. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I keep meaning to watch Senna, but every copy I've had has subtitles all the way through and I haven't found out if that's how it's supposed to be or just how the copies are that I got. I really dislike subtitles. The subtitles probably added to my dislike of Wangan Midnight. Such a terrible, terrible movie, with a shitty story. The only reason I watched it through was because of the S30. Logan's Run is a great movie. I'm torn on whether I'd like to see a remake of it. I mean with today's technology the visuals could be improved so much and do so much more than when it was made, but on the same token with today's technology it could easily be ruined in a re-make. I've never understood all of the hoopla over Blade Runner, I've watched it several times trying to figure out what all the hype is about it and so far I can not find it. The pacing was off, the acting was terrible, the editing leaves a lot to be desired. I've watched a bunch of movies over the last few days, when I really should have been doing other things: That's My Boy - with Adam Sandler. Really is a bad movie as many Adam Sandler movies are, but this one has such a great soundtrack that it didn't seem so bad. The entire Scary Movie franchise - Non are really that good, but good for a laugh every now and then. Spring Breakers - Messed up, and unless you're paying attention to it completely, it's easy to lose track of what's happening. Not something I would say anyone would have to see. It's basically another drug infused wanna-be gansta movie. For anyone that wants to watch a real cult classic car movie, get a hold of 2 Lane Black Top. It's a movie that was written as it was being shot, with a rather unique ending. The story isn't great, but it's a great car movie. Quote
