nizm0zed Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 5. Captain Phillips - About Somalian Pirates hi-jacking boats. Pretty good film / story actually. This is on my playlist for tonight, looks pretty good so far. My last few have been... 1. The Secret life of Walter Mitty. I watched this last night, it is a damn good movie, 9/10 from me. the story draws you right in and delivers a spectacular movie. 2. All is lost. 7/10 Robert Redford as a lone sailor on a yacht runs into a semi submerged shipping container, puts a hole in his boat, endures a storm, has to fight for his survival. There isnt much dialog at all, but he plays the part quite well. 3. The klondike. (3 part miniseries) 5.5/10 This is a story of 2 guys heading up to the Yukon and Dawson city in the late 1800's gold rush to find their fortune, its all based on true historical events, however there has been a decent amount of 'hollywood free writing' to spice the story up. It was interesting, but i probably will never watch it again. 6. Bad Grampa (jackass) 6/10 Typical from Jonny Knoxville and crew, some funny bits in there, worth watching if you are into their kind of humour. 7. Riddick 4/10 Yawn.... 8. Enders Game 5/10 Harrison ford was ordinary, the kid made me want to punch him in the face, the story was interesting, the visuals were very good. Quote
Moderators PB260Z Posted April 8, 2014 Moderators Posted April 8, 2014 On my flight to San Fran and back I watched a few movies on board the plane. 5. Captain Phillips - About Somalian Pirates hi-jacking boats. Pretty good film / story actually. Flew to Perth and back this week so caught up on a few movies. Finally got around to watching Captain Phillips, really enjoyed it. Also watched "All Is Lost" starring Robert Redford. Solo yachtsman who's yacht gets struck by a shipping container. The story is around the fight for survival that follows. Not a bad movie. Quote
George Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Her (2013) - Without a doubt one of the better written and acted films I've seen in the past year. I went in without knowing anything about it and was glad for it so I won't elaborate other than to say I highly recommended you do the same and just enjoy it. Slow pace so watch when you have a good couple of hours and you want to relax. 10/10 Quote
George Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 The Raid 2 (2014) - Do you think the Indonesian film industry can put together an action film so out there that it rivals the best that Hollywood can do? In fact, for pure choreographed action it surpasses what we're seeing out of Hollywood at the moment. It's fast paced, extremely well choreographed and gory but in a good way. 8/10 The first one was good as well but you don't need to watch it first. Both are worth seeing if you're an action fan. chris240 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Agree with Captain Phillips 8/10... Last night on channel 80 watched Firefox , from 1982, Clint Eastwood......weve come a looooong way since 1982 ! As tacky as it seemed, I still enjoyed it. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2014 Administrators Posted July 5, 2014 Saw "Man on a ledge" last night, nothing that hasn't been done before but was good all the same 7/10. Quote
lightmaster240z Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Just watched Rainway man 5/10 and Captin Phillips and would give it 7/10 but I have seen too much of Tom Hanks of late. Quote

Just came across this gif of one of the scenes. It shows the creativity behind the camerawork. http://i.imgur.com/v604GpS.gif Quote
dat240z Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Ive seen some crackers of late. Trancendance with Johnny Depp 8/10. Noah (Russell Crowe) 8/10 and Need for Speed (some cool driving scenes and a tough 700hp mustang!!) 7/10. Quote
Six_Shooter Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Need For Speed (2014). I wasn't expecting this movie to do much for me, but I just finished watching it and then hit play again... A lot of the action is not realistic, but I wasn't expecting that, since it's based on a video game, and they brought a TON of the game elements and even the videography style into the movie. The cars are awesome, and even the racing has the feel of the video game (without being cartoony), a large part due to the actual cars selected. Quote
MATTY Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 ill bring a change of pace to the other filums mentioned, after watching Need For Speed myself i had a slight crush for imogen poots the blonde bird for the players at home and decide to see what other moives she was in. on of the was "that awkward moment".... its a romcom and it has Zac efron in it but it wasnt that bad honestly but if youre game enough you boys can watch it and judge it for your selves haha Quote
Six_Shooter Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I've had a thing for Imogen since I saw 28 weeks later... Quote
lightmaster240z Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I just watch under the skin. not sure about it I may have to watch it again sober Quote
Retro Z Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Need For Speed (2014). A lot of the action is not realistic. Although not realistic, apparently Need for speed had zero CGI and everything you see was done for real with stunt drivers and pro race/drift drivers. Quote

I can spot a lot of CGI in the movie, though not necessarily part of the action, but there were definitely added flames and effects. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 18, 2014 Administrators Posted September 18, 2014 I saw this recently. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1893256/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_7 Thought it was quite good, but I wasn't expecting much. Quote
CroS13 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I went to a mates bucks party recently, we went camping and the groom's father in-law brought 2 of his mates, so there were 3 50 something year old yobo's there (this is going somewhere i promise)........ One of them in his drunken stupor was proclaiming to the campfire his favorite movie, one that he sometimes watches a few times in one day, a true classic that won "awards" in Australia for its genius. His description of the movie was slightly off puting, however when i got home, curiosity got the best of me and i had to download and watch it.... i wish i didn't..... DONT bother watching Bad Boy Bubby, Its not funny, not entertaining, doesn't make sense, i persevered through it to the end only to say that i did. A truly stupid movie that only a serial killer would like. Rudolf....... Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 ... Bad Boy Bubby.... Ah yes, I remember hearing about that one back in the day, when you had to go to the movies or rent a DVD/video. I've never watched it either. Watched "The Double" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1825157/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 Apparently based on a Dostoevsky story, written and directed by Moss from the IT crowd, and some other guy. Has a few cameos from other IT crowd actors. The high point for me was spotting J Mascis (from Dinosaur Jr.) as a janitor which says a lot about the movie. I should have stopped watching it after that. Also watched Godzilla. Better than the one with Ferris Bueller. Would have been better if Bryan Cranston was the main character in the movie, and obviously a different story line to suit, IMHO. But then again might have been too similar to the 1998 movie. I just watch under the skin. not sure about it I may have to watch it again sober Wont help unless you know that [spoiler, highlight to read]: 1: she is an alien in human form capturing men to be slaughtered/processed for food and sent back to her home planet. lightmaster240z Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I watched that one last night Gav and enjoyed it more than i expected Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted September 19, 2014 Administrators Posted September 19, 2014 I watched that one last night Gav and enjoyed it more than i expected You got Netflix? It wasn't the usual Jason Statham type film (although it kind of was). I think it deserved better than the 6.2 rating it got on IMDB. Funny it looks like it was shit canned on Rotten Tomatoes also. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/redemption_2013/ Quote
lightmaster240z Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 No Netflix just a 18 year old and pirate bay . It was a little like transporter 1,2. But I like Jason Statham as a actor in everything I have seen of his. Quote

So you'll pay the Australian tax for the same content. *most likely*. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Shannons legends of motorsport. Was all about Jim Richards. They had his HR31 on set, which as an HR31 owner was very cool. He said it was one of his favourite cars to drive. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 2, 2014 Administrators Posted October 2, 2014 Maze runner. It was Resident Evil + Hunger Games + The Cube mashed together. I'd give it 6/10 likely to appeal most to tween market. Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Have been watching all the Alien movies. The special edition of Alien 3 makes a lot more sense than the original theatrical version. Adds another 30 minutes of story, so you don't just have characters randomly disappearing for no reason. Watched Prometheus last night. Tonight is Alien vs Predator. Edit: decided to watch Predator first. Quote
