I would work through this in order, something like this - Step 1 - Test battery for voltage Step 2 - Check for continuity (connection) from battery negative to engine block Step 3 - Test for power each side of the fusible links Step 4 - Check for voltage at supply (battery) side of 'always on' fuses Step 5 - Check for voltage on load side (power out side) of these fuses Step 6 - Turn key to ignition on, then check for voltage at supply side of 'ignition on' fuses Step 7 - Check for voltage at load side of 'ignition on' fuses Step 8 - Check for voltage at load end of circuits = eg. light bulb sockets (with switch turned on) ... and so on

Good luck with engine issues! On a separate issue- I notice in the before and after engine bay pics that the fluid reservoirs on your brake master cylinder have been swapped over.

I just found some more early cars on the Z Shop Melbourne's facebook page. September 17 2015 - "Some more early 240Z's we are building" (photos of 4 build plates) - HS30-00036, listed on Page 1 of this topic as - "HS30 00036 (not confirmed still exists) - Have to ask Dale." HS30-00162 HS30-00208 HS30-00422 September 17 2015 - "240Z Justin 1969/70 #60" (white car, 4 photos) September 17 2015 - "240Z Peter's 1969/70 #301" (red car, 4 photos) August 28 2015 - "Don's Targa 240Z #180" (white car, 2 photos) (note - they said 1969 - not me! )

HS30-00068 hasn't made it to the first page yet. Does anybody here know what has happened to it? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/1924-cars-for-sale-3rd-party-sites-ebay-carsales-etc/page-138 - post #2743

I think the part number is 68345-18000 "CLIP -TUBULAR" Part #10 on this page - http://www.carpartsmanual.com/datsuns30/DatsunZIndex/Miscellaneous/EmblemOrnament/240Z260Z/tabid/1842/Default.aspx

No Gavin - I didn't see it listed until it had already sold. But if the new owner would like to send me a PM...

Wow! - I designed and did the artwork for the Z Car Club Sydney logo in 1990 or 1991 (using a Macintosh SE/30). It was only ever meant to be a very rough concept version - but the club has been using it ever since then. I was blown away to see it as a horn button! - Ian

Is this amazing engine and car proof that S30's don't really need front or rear spoilers?

GongZ replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I think this is what you are referring to Craig - http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/33141-s30-construction-theories/ post #17 from Alan (HS30-H) "Don't get foxed by the remnants of yellow paint around the 'Shatai Bango' on the B210, Chris. That's just left over from the Japanese 'Shakken' tests, where the engraved number is sometimes highlighted to make it more legible and show that it has been checked. All of that is a continuing and regular thing through the car's life in Japan." This part of the topic was discussion about whether the chassis numbers on the firewall were stamped or engraved. The consensus was that they were engraved. -
Also note that it does not have blinkers in the fenders and has no door or fender mounted mirrors. This is an early 1971 press photo -

Felicitations Kylie and George! Build number K&G-00001 is moving down the production line And when the time comes, you already have a contact for bronze plating of baby shoes!

Hi Shaun (and mother240!), The car is looking great. Don't forget to add it to the WA Z register (it is still the highest known 240Z chassis number in Australia) and start a build thread. Regarding Watanabe wheels - on 19 May this year, Ben said that "Otomoto is no longer importing Watanabe wheels". http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13468-last-chance-for-genuine-watanabes-at-bargain-prices/ There are no Watanabe wheels left on the Otomoto website, but he has a set of four silver 15 x 7.5 +2 offsets in an eBay listing that ends tomorrow (14:45 EST) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Watanabe-F8-wheels-15x7-5-set-of-four-/291573260734?hash=item43e31ee1be Currently sitting at $830 (+$80 postage if needed) and two genuine Watanabe F8 wheels, with new 185/55 Maxtrek tyres fitted. Size is 15x7.0 with +1 offset and 4x114.3 stud pattern. Gunmetal black (classic Watanabe colour) - this listing ends on Monday (5th Oct at 15:48 EST) currently at $300 (+$50 postage if needed)

I agree Gavin - but I added "There have been a few possible exceptions to this." because of posts like - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13608-240z-engine-rebuildrestoration/ post #8 And I also know that the description 'series 2' is usually seen in relation to US cars, and is pretty much meaningless anyway. There were so many subtle changes and so little documentation that a lot of things are very vague and open to mythification. (Like '73 blinkers being under the bumper ) Another change that seems impossible to pin down, and has been discussed a few times, is when the hand throttle was discontinued.

locklock, on 21 Sept 2015 - 12:00 AM, said: As far as I know, Australian delivered 240Z's did not have blinkers/turn signal indicators in the front fenders. There have been a few possible exceptions to this. I am not sure about 240Z's sold new in New Zealand - but there are examples of cars with and without the side blinkers on the Z Club of NZ web site. This also seems to apply to some early NZ 260Z's; Maybe gilltech or one our New Zealand based members can tell us more. I am not aware of any Australian 260Z's that did not have these side blinkers. In July you said this about your 240Z - Did you mean that you think it was sold in Malaysia as a new car? If you are not sure, then maybe it is an Australian car. Does it have an Australian compliance plate like the one in these 2 photos? (it might have been in a different location - it varied quite a lot) If not, does it have two rivet holes (in or close to, the positions shown by the red arrows) to suggest that it might have had an Australian compliance plate that was removed?

Hello locklock - I have replied to this question in your "From Kuala Lumpur" thread

The NSW government is soon to commence a trial of 60 days a year Historic vehicle use - yay!! It will be similar to the 45/90 day system in Victoria - meaning that you will be able to use your car for personal trips as well as club events or servicing/testing/inspection purposes. "The Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Duncan Gay, has asked Transport for NSW and Roads and Maritime Services to develop a Historic Vehicle Log Book Trial. The Log Book Trial will allow all operators of existing vehicles within the Historic Vehicle Scheme to opt-in. These vehicles may then be used for 60 days of general use (i.e. club events, maintenance and personal use) each year. Each day’s use must be recorded in a Log Book. New entrants to the Historic Vehicle Scheme after the trial commences may apply for inclusion in the Log Book Trial, subject to the existing historic vehicle and registered operator eligibility criteria. The trial will operate for two years, with an evaluation to be completed during this period as part of the Roads and Maritime Services review of the overall Conditional Registration Scheme. The Historic Vehicle Log Book Trial will commence on 1 October 2015. Details on how to opt in to the trial will be updated on this page from this date." The only sticking point seems to be; Historic vehicles must be as close to original condition as possible, with no alterations except for safety features such as seat belts and turn indicators or period accessories and options, if desired. - so are triple Webers, as an example, considered a 'period option'? Is this a new and stricter restriction? I am sure that I have seen S30Z's with Webers being used under the current NSW Historic registration system - can somebody please confirm this? Could 1980's Toyota 4-spot calipers be considered a 'safety feature' on a 1970's S30Z? One wheel pokes more than other? Uneven fitment? HELP!
GongZ replied to brains's topic in General Maintenance
Hi ZED83, I think you are being a bit too hopeful asking for a reply from brains. He has not posted here since 9 December 2012, when he announced that he had sold this car. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/9700-syd-fs-1979-datsun-280zx-22-manual-na-5000/?do=findComment&comment=118989 It seems that the car became a parts car and probably no longer exists - the uneven wheel positions may have been a major contributing factor in its demise. If you have a similar issue with your car, there are many suggestions above to diagnose the problem - have you tried them yet? -
Help With Bolt Sizes For The Diff
GongZ replied to aircobra's topic in Brakes / Drivetrain Components
This link might help you - http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/98751-suspension-bolts-inventory I have found the zip file attached reply #3 particularly useful - it suggests that the Diff Crossmember bolts are; 10 x 1.25 pitch 30mm long, full thread, 14mm hex head, Grade 9 with a flat and split washer -
Of course I believed you Allan! I contacted Duncan because AWU491K is often referred to as a pristine example of a 240Z, yet has the blinkers in what I consider to be the wrong place. So many cars now have the blinkers under the bumper that it has been assumed that that is how they were delivered. This is why I asked (in my original post to this topic) if anyone had "ever seen an original sales photo or road test with the blinkers below the bumper to disprove my theory". I did not know that it was an Australian car - that is indeed ironic. The fact that it is a 1971 model therefore means that it would have been built without the bumper mounted blinkers, and being an Aussie car, it would not have had the indicator repeaters in the sides of the front fenders. Unfortunately, I ignored your advice and looked "too closely at the orientation of the front indicator repeater lenses" and I am now going...

'The Z Farm' is a company that specialises in restorations of Datsun 240Z's, 260Z's and 2280ZX's. They are located in North Yorkshire in England and were chosen by Nissan (GB) Ltd to restore a 1971 240Z (registration AWU491K) that was used at the UK launch of the 350Z. This car has since been used in numerous press and internet articles and as shown in this photo - it has the front blinkers under the bumper. I sent an email to Mr Duncan Pearcey at The Z Farm regarding this issue and has has kindly given me permission to publish his response on this forum - My message to Duncan; "Hello Duncan, I have a 1973 Australian delivered 240Z which I purchased from the original owner in 1985. My car has the front blinkers mounted on top of the front bumper. I have seen plenty of other similar cars which have them below the bumper, and the gallery on your website shows examples of both. My assumption is that the factory fitted them on top, but some owners have decided to move them to the existing holes below the bumper, because they prefer the look. Could you please tell me what you know/think about this issue? Best regards ..." Duncan's reply; "Hi Ian Debated many times on the Club Forum..........it all boils down to this :- The original UK cars and most Euro markets had them above the Bumper for the height issue within the prevailing Regulations. However, I personally think that they look much better and make a neater cluster with the Number plate, etc., below the Bumper, and fit most of our Restos in this fashion. Hey - it's your Car - you do with it just what you like ! Regards Duncan Pearcey The 'Z Farm"

For more of ZAZ's work - this ad was written by him using his other 'nom de plume' of steveg - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13963-260z-rear-taillight-assemblies/?do=findComment&comment=165790 I shouldn't give away the ending, but it is similar.
