Curtis said that this car is HS30-01716. Allan Fielding's road/race 240Z is shown on the WA Z register as - HS30-01712 240Z 12/1971. Perhaps Curtis could provide a photo of the compliance plate to clarify this if he posts more photos. When you say "twin cable", I assume you mean "twin lever" = choke and hand throttle (I am sure you know that 240Z choke levers had twin cables attached). Assuming that this car is a late 1971, it may have had the single lever set up. Gavin's 2/1972 compliance plated 240Z has the single lever set up.

Hello Canarygsr, I have worked out that you bought this car - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13247-1975-260z-coupe-completerolling-sold/ which came with the L28 engines. If you really want people to think about buying the motors - please post some photos of them. (hint - click on 'More Reply Options' to get the options for adding photos) Some clear photographs, from various angles, will give potential buyers some idea of what condition they might be in and what ancillaries - like exhaust, starter, injection etc - they include.

Hi George - we had a similar discussion about the original finish on the bonnet hinges this week, when we did a slight thread hi-jack here - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13990-1971-240z-original-survivor/?do=findComment&comment=166260

Yes Gilltech - many people seem to call it a turquoise. Now if you want to talk about matching the factory colour .... Datsunparts in the USA sell their own version of Datsun blue/turquoise engine paint in spray cans - but I believe this is very difficult, if not illegal, to import. http://www.datsunparts.com/Engine-external - Part number 1255 So I did some searching and found this info, from none other than HS30-H, on the ClassicZcars site - (http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/29732-blue-engine-paint/) - message #11 "Nissan's blue engine paint has Austin DNA. Back in the 1950s, when Nissan were assembling **CKD kits of Austin cars, they were given a 'British Standard' paint code for the formulation of the engine block and ancillaries colour. It seems to have stuck. This colour is still listed on the 'British Standard' database as B.S. 18C39, with HMG ( Her Majesty's Government ) number GL31557, and 'Glidden Number' name 'Dolphin Blue'. Alan T. " (**CKD kits = completely knocked down kits) So, if you are keen to match the factory colour - take this info to your paint supplier and ask them to mix some up. If you click on this link - http://www.e-paint.co.uk/search_colour.asp?cQuery=18%20C%2039 - you will see a sample of the colour (it may look different on your computer screen to the actual colour obviously). This link shows that 'Datsun Engine Blue' is also the official team colour for the NFL Miami Dolphins football team!! http://www.homedepot.com/p/Glidden-Team-Colors-1-gal-NFL-175E-NFL-Miami-Dolphins-Blue-Flat-Interior-Paint-and-Primer-NFL-175E-F-01/204731125

Hi Peter, I just took a trip to the garage to look at my original motor for you. The motor, from my 9/73, was pulled out after it had only done about 34,500 miles and has never been touched before or after. The photo attached confirms that the sump is engine colour (+ surface rust highlights ).

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
GongZ replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Just to be clear - I wasn't having a go at you about the age of the ad oldmates260Z. I can't see anything on the ad showing when it was posted either. When I said it was 4 years old, I was just going from the matching description, location and price that I saw on zzzzed's 2011 post about this car. I guess it's possible that it has been for sale ever since. I find it annoying that car ads on some sites never seem to be removed - its very misleading. Maybe some do it to pretend they have more active listings than they really have. -

The link is working again now - and the ad seems to be 4 years old. -
There are about 20 YouTube videos on this subject. Search for 'car glass scratch' or 'windscreen scratch'

I am glad you solved your problem. Also notice that the bolt can be adjusted up and down a bit, and has a lock-nut to fix it in place. You might need to play with this to get it to work better.
-
So - you have a problem with a lock locklock? Looking at your photo, I would say that it is what Scoota said above = I have copied your photo and put some notes on it to help explain what I think is wrong. The screw that holds the arm onto the lock (see the note in yellow text) looks like it might be loose. When you turn the key to the unlocked position, the 'lock bolt' (noted in red) should be directly above the 'catch lever' (also noted in red). When you lock/unlock the tailgate, the key, and therefore the arm, only turn through 90 degrees. Yours looks like it would miss the lever. Try doing this - Put the key in the lock and make sure that it is in the unlocked position Look inside the hatch (from the same position as you took the photo) and press on the button. If the bolt is missing the lever, work out how far you need the adjust the arm Slide the 'lock retaining clip' (noted in white) out in the direction of the white arrow and remove it Take the lock out of the hatch Loosen the screw and rotate the arm to where it needs to be Tighten the screw Reassemble and check operation I hope that helps - Ian

Read this - you lucky ..... thing! - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/9944-going-to-toyko-datsun-museums-historic-car-collections-suggestions/

In the classicZcars topic I mentioned, 26th-Z agrees that the torsion rods were hand-painted black. I think I prefer the look of unpainted cad plating too - and it would probably stay looking good for longer than paint too.
-
Crikey Nick - I nearly lost my lunch when I saw the photos of the car as it was when he bought it! I probably had an expression on my face similar to the one on your (yet to be explained) profile pic. As promised though - a very entertaining read - thanks.

Wow Curtis - nice car! What are you basing that on Gavin? I have never seen cad plated bonnet hinges on a 240Z. I did a web search and this page suggests that they may have been plated then painted over at the factory - http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/19471-hood-hinges-paint-or-plate/ I could not find any sales brochures with suitable photos. My 1973 has body-colour hinges and I am sure that it has never been repainted.

The silver '73 seems to have the base for a back seat fitted. This photo shows a legal (in Australia) back seat occupant testing a front seat. More about the back seat here - http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/43122-ever-seen-a-240z-with-a-backseat/ -
Hmmm - 'series 2' is a term I have seen used by some US Z-car owners - but not here in Australia. All of the Australian 240Z's I have ever seen, from the earliest to the latest (including my September 1973 compliance plate 240Z) do not have blinkers in the front guards. What is the chassis number and compliance date of your car? (I am assuming that it was originally delivered to Australia.)

Hi locklock, the 5-speed 240Z gear knob is as difficult, if not more difficult, to find than the 5-speed 260Z gear knob. There are a few topics on this site about these knobs/shift-pattern buttons. This one - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13728-wtb-240z-gear-knob-button/ is the most hopeful that I have found so far. One of the members, taylor, has made some reproductions of the shift-pattern button; So one option seems to be to wait until taylor comes back to Australia, or Gavin said - And there is also this copy - but its not as accurate as the copies that taylor can make - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-reproduction-shift-knob-5-speed-walnut-/380931912066

Nope - I don't think I have seen that one. But here is what happened to a motor someone took out of a 240Z - http://bringatrailer.com/2009/09/12/1961-mga-roadster-datsun-6-cylinder-power/ -

It's strange that he says its a 3.5 litre P76 V8 - they were/are 4.4 litre. The 3.5 litre was used in various Rovers, Stags, Land Rovers, MGBV8's, TVR's, TR8's, Morgans and so on... This might throw some light on this car - I bought a copy of the July/August 1989 edition of an Australian car magazine called 'Street & Custom' earlier this year - purely because it had an article about Allan Fielding's 240Z race car. This car will be known to many members here and is mentioned as one of the cars that was at the 2013 Nationals in Queensland. (It seems that Allan registered here as Allanz33, but only made one post - to contact BigCol about photos of his car) http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/10054-2013-nationals-who-from-q-is-going/page-4 The article, entitled 'What Have We Started?' and written by the magazine's editor Wayne Cantell, begins like this - “In the January/February edition of Street & Custom I ran a story about a 240Z running a Hot Holden six. I thought the concept of the double-H motor/conversion was a good one which offered a viable alternative to warming a Datsun or shoe-horning a V8. It generated some good letters of enquiry and it also brought me a phone call and this letter to my desk... 'Dear Sir, further to our telephone conversation six weeks ago, I enclose some photos and information on my 240Z. I feel this proves that the article on the yellow 240Z was neither fair nor correct. The article said that Holden motors are easier to obtain higher horsepower figures from them (sic) Datsun sixes – but the engine in question produces only 174hp at the wheels. Compare this to my car's 168kW (225hp) from only 2754cc as compared with the Holden's 3000cc. And that figure is taken at the rear wheels! Also, my engine doesn't leak oil like Holden engines do! I hope that you will feature my car to show that a well designed small capacity OHC Japanese six is a real alternative to the agricultural Holden and Ford sixes. Yours Allan Fielding Kyneton, Victoria.'” There is then a description of Allan's car and 7 photos of it. The conclusion of the article is - "So there we have it - an alternative to an alternative! It's hard - as I said earlier - to really draw a comparison without knowing the costs involved, although personally I think I'd opt for the all-Nissan route!" Oldmates260z's link still seems to be broken and I don't have a copy of the January/February 1989 edition of Street & Custom magazine, but the car in question may well be the one that started this discussion. -
It's good that people like RetroZ can tell us what Stewart Wilkins Motorsport sells - because their website is hopeless at it. (example - I know they make L-series extractors, but I can't find them) Even the items that they do list - don't have photos.

I don't know why you thought that this was an appropriate topic to mention that George, but if it is a real concern - try this link; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Silicone-Increase-Height-Insoles-Taller-Lift-Inserts-2-Layers-Shoes-Pads-AU-/141504598764?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

Has the web page that you linked to changed already? It is less than an hour since your posted it - but I don't see anything like a "Featured cars" link. All I could find was stuff about garage door openers and a link to an Adult chat room which is something my mum won't let me use. *EDIT: Aha - I clicked on the name in your message, and that took me to "thegaragejournal dot com" - I have now realised that you typed "dot com dot au" which is much better - thanks http://www.thegaragejournal.com.au/magazine/

I bought a US 280Z tach from eBay so that I can swap it into a 240Z housing as shown in this discussion - http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/44301-tachometer-swap-280z-into-a-240z-series-1-housing/ (NB - I have not done the swap yet) There is also this topic about using a 280ZX tach in a 240Z housing - http://www.thezgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1289
