Fair enough Pete – you caught me picking on the new boy. I was just seeing if I could freak him out again. I wasn't even trying to the first time.
-
The same goes for Interior Colour and Differential. One of the problems with the WA register is that you don't know whether you should enter the original or the current spec of a car.

Where is 'Western Districts'? Victoria, WA...? *edit - I see that you joined today and that you have posted several ads for parts you want to sell. One of the other posts shows that you are in Victoria. You should read this - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/936-must-read-classifieds-rules/ And could you please edit your profile by adding Victoria to your location? Oh, and welcome!

Have you checked that those bushes comply with ADR 46B - "Passenger Vehicles - Acceptable Colours for Suspension Components"?

Congratulations on the progress and have a great trip Peter - the excitement (and the engine) builds!

I think you are probably right about it being 110 Red. Colours look very different when they are next to other colours. There is a 110 Red 240Z featured on this (2012) page - https://vintagekraft.wordpress.com/2013/08/28/1972-datsun-240z/ The author talks about a "sweet red or orange Datsun 240Z" owned by one of the stars of the 1980's TV show "Eight Is Enough". He then talks about a Craiglist ad for a "1972 reddish-orange number". Even the Craigslist ad apparently described it as "Red/Orange ext (Color Code 110 red)" It looks kinda orange in the photos too -

The best colour reference information that I know of (and you probably do too!) is http://zhome.com/History/colors.html This suggests that, as you say, 260Z's were not available in '918 Orange'.. It should be noted that this list is based on US market cars only and is not 100% accurate for our market - i.e. my 240Z is an original 307 Blue Metallic - a colour that that was not available on US 240Z's. Can you post a photo or two of the paint you found? It would help to identify the colour and whether it is part of the original factory paint job - or possibly, an earlier and more extensive respray. Maybe you can also shove your phone/camera right up under the dash (like in the pic below) and/or similar tricky places to see what colour you find there too.

Don't panic! Sit down and take some long, deep breaths. You are going to be fine. Now, when you are ready - read this topic - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/413-compliance-plate/ Feeling a bit better now? Now, make sure that your compliance plate is not hiding from you. It might be in a different location than on the firewall. Here is a photo of a 260Z that has the Nissan build plate and the Australian compliance plate fitted to the inner driver's side fender - in front of the fuel filter; Did you find any holes on the firewall to show where the compliance plate was fitted? This photo shows one on the firewall - If I were you, I would also call the person you bought the car from and ask them if they have the compliance plate somewhere, and see if you can find out why it is not on the car. You should be OK without a compliance plate, but try to find it if you can.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
GongZ replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I just found the facebook page of the guy who restored this car (HS30-00365). He uploaded a video to his page on the 16th of August, showing the new owner, from Brisbane driving off in the car. The new owner's name is given - and it is not Lt. Steve Rodriguez Therefore - Good call oldmates260Z It's a scam! I wasn't looking forward to the bus ride to Tindal, Northern Territory anyway, and I have avoided being called a 'wood duck' by Gavin. -
Maybe it got a 10 km/h car park "love-tap" from behind and was written off.
-
Sorry to drag it up again then - I did search for "rear engine" and "mid engine" on this site before I did so.

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
GongZ replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Well spotted oldmates260z, I found two more ads for this car. This one is for "Used 1971 Datsun Z Series - Other Areas Northern Territory" - contact gradefiki54@yahoo.com - $16,000 Posted 4 days ago http://www.getusedcar.net/detail/au/ooYATcrpBYcYpoBTTTYU/240z-Datsun-Fairlady-Not-260z-280z-300zx-c210-240k Then the same car is advertised as a "Used 2000 Datsun 300Zx - Westbrook Queensland" - "!!!!!!!!NO RESERVE!!!!!!!1" - Posted 1 month ago http://www.getusedcar.net/detail/au/oYAnrBUrBrpAccpnpUBU/240z-Datsun-Fairlady-Not-260z-280z-300zx-c210-240k-s2000-sky CHECKOUT WEBSITE FOR MORE PICS & VIDEOS http://www.chrispilling.tk I found the old eBay ad and sent the seller (marie23_blue) a message about this - could be interesting. -
Well they answered very quickly!!! My question to them was - "What do you mean by "Full ADR approval"? Do they meet "ADR 22 - Head Restraints" for vehicles made on or after 1 January 1972?" Their reply was - "Thanks for your message and enquiry with Original Parts Group. Our low back bucket seats meet ADR approval 3/03 for seat without head restraints. Full adr approval for this style seat." In other words - they are fully approved for pre-1972 cars only.
-
They might meet pre-1972 ADR standards - I can't see how they would meet ADR22 though. Their eBay listing says "GREAT FOR HOT RODS, SOFT TOPS, MINI'S AND JUST ABOUT ANY VEHICLE WHERE A COMPACT SEAT IS REQUIRED" - Hot rods and Minis might be alluding to pre-1972 cars? I sent them a question on eBay - I will let you know if I get a reply.
-
You might need an instruction next to the chassis number field like - "Your car will have either 5 or 6 digits as its chassis number - please make sure you enter them correctly" This is one of the reasons why I suggested that photos of build plates, compliance plates and firewall chassis numbers would be highly desirable when adding a car. The administrators could use these to check the numbers. As I'm sure you know - inaccurate chassis numbers is the most disruptive error in the WA register - the order of the cars is all over the place as a result.
-
This car has been mentioned on the Club.NZ site but not here. It is a 240Z with a turbocharged Nissan V6 just in front of the rear wheels! It would have to be the wildest and possibly most pointless customised 240Z I have seen. One of the more impressive things about it is the way that the rear of the car's body is removable - you can hardly see the join in this photo - http://oppositelock.kinja.com/i-went-to-bobs-big-boy-tonight-1523339979/all More pics half way down this page- http://www.oddimotive.com/2013/08/irvine-cars-and-coffee-sightings-august_24.html

It looks very good to me so far Gavin. The only thing that irks me is the way you seem to want to show the chassis number as 3 or 150. I prefer to see the full format chassis ID of HS30-00003 or HS30-00150. This becomes more of an issue when you eventually get to cars like mine (HS30-103724) when you realise that large groups of numbers were skipped = my car is not chassis number 103,724. *Edit - sheesh Gavin - you must have been typing at the same time - you beat me to it!
-
Low back seats in a 260Z? What about ADR 22 - Head Restraints? https://infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/pdf/22.pdf - applies to passenger cars manufactured on or after 1 Jan 1972

I am a regular reader of the British magazine "Practical Classics". One of their regular advertisers is a company called Surface Processing Ltd. http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/for-cars.html They advertise their body surface preparation technique of chemical stripping (dipping) followed by what is called Electrophoretic coating (usually called E-coating). Apparently e-coating is what all the major car manufacturer's use to protect new car bodies these days. E-coating seems to be popular in the UK and in the USA - but as far as I can tell - no-one does it in Australia. The only local reference I could find to it was the this topic posted in 2011 on the aussieveedubbers site - which got no response at all! http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=88127 Maybe you should ask the guys at Redi-strip why this is not available in Australia. -

Well a proper bath sounds like a good idea under the circumstances that you have detailed - as long as someone can correctly point out the 'strategic places' on your 240Z. -
Thank you Alan - a 12mm spanner you say?

Welcome to the site Ahoysandy - it's a shame we are meeting under such circumstances The only 'specialty shop' for Datsun Z cars in the Sydney metropolitan area is - All-Z-Parts Address: 1/17 King Rd, Hornsby NSW 2077 Phone:(02) 9476 0111 http://www.allzparts.com.au/ This shop is run by a guy called Warren and his wife Miriam. I believe that they are hard to contact though. Look at this topic - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/11691-allzparts/ You will also find parts on the usual sites such as eBay and Gumtree, but this site is probably the best place to try - good luck with it. (You should also consider posting some photos of your car - before and after the 'incident' - and introducing yourself here - you might find that it gets you a better response - http://www.viczcar.com/forum/forum/19-introductions-and-forum-etiquette/)

Your link to the Redi-Strip website got stuck to the text and doesn't work - here it is - https://www.redistrip.com.au/ To me there is a conundrum in the choice of body preparation techniques; No form of media blasting can get inside box sections and other inaccessible places. On the other hand, a dipping process would get into such areas, but I don't see how you would ensure that the liquid was completely drained afterwards.
