  1. Simon, you have forward facing castor rods in the ZX? To increase the castor, put the rod into a lathe, and machine the shoulder, where the big washer is up against, back, say 15mm, you can add washers as packers if car frame is uneven. In the root of the shoulder, turn it with a bit of radius, so there is no sharp internal corner, to become a stress riser, ie break. Change nothing else at all, get a before and after wheel align, with adjustments for same toe. The 15 mm will then tell you what degree castor you gained. On Dato 1600's we used to run a LC-LJ Torana rod, fully adjustable, and straight bolt in 5 degrees is a good amount.
  2. Make sure the two studs out back of rear cover are same distance apart, if so, then this one will fit, otherwise it may need a bit of a touch with a round file. Yes offer still available.
  3. Jake, jumping in on the end here,,, but,, Do the two individual fans have a circumfrential ring around them on the blade tips, or, mounted in a cage with a ring? If so, the ring will stop airflow generated by rotation from "spilling" off. They should work. One other thing, the "cage" structure bit that is fixed ( not rotating) i cut every second bit of rib off to help exit airflow, use sidecutters. Those pull through straight zip tie things have me a bit worried too, but after quite a few years in race use, not had any wear under the rubber pad i used, ( bit of bicycle inner tube rubber)
  4. A lo-cost rally car option was Acrow ( builders) props, bored out to suit strut od, and the spring perch welded onto the top big diam nut.
  5. R180 3.5 ratio diff here in brisbane!
  6. If suspected head problem, water leaking, oil consumption high,ie head gasket replacement, and you wouldnt do one, just to have the other let go, Expext an $8000 approx repair bill Whole front subframe with engine has to drop out from underneath.
  7. And any quote should have a contingies allowance, in case of further damage not able to be seen, but shows up once repairs have commenced.
  8. I have an r200 280zx rear diff to body mountin vgc Single drop pin from floorpan type Can easily pack and post $50
  9. Links to your catalogues or suppliers catalogues please! So that we may peruse what is available, and how to speak the correct terminology!
  10. Try running four different race/rally cars, four different engine builders, two of which cars have duplicate spare engines, due to the sodding Irishman Murphy, that may pop up! The booger has visited me more than once!
  11. Didnt know about the early 240 dizzy! I'm used to the zx dizzy, have to run that in the Gp S car! Little simple trick to stop points bounce at higher rpm, was to jam a bit of stiff foam sponge in behind the point spring, that stopped it,Only issue was the rubbing block wore a bit quicker, not much though, next was valve bounce, that's a different topic! This thing from Jake sounds pretty goid, i do know the spark, at spark plug gives you one hell of a bloody great zap!
  12. What happens to the signal to the CDI unot when engine rpm is high enough to cause points bounce? How does the distributor curve ( weights setting and all in advance timing) alter the signal going in and thus coming out from the cdi, if you use stock dizzy? With my old fashioned ways ( circa the 1950's) i always had the points type dizzys bob weights altered, spring tangs bent, and vaxpcuum advance locked off, to give me, say, all timing in, at eg34deg at 3500 engine rpm. There is/was a guy in atarragindi, ( older than Methuselah, who can re-do dizzys!
  13. No, i am sure Zac wont mind, as a young but very enthusiadtic Z owner, i would like to think he is getting great insight into the vagaries and variety of what we all do, and own, and are pasdionate about!!!
  14. Alan, with the most of respect, ( zac, sorry this is off topic) The Chair of the Historic commission here in Australa, has not asked us to show proof of stock standard cehicles sold with all the optional items as available in spare parts dept, to be fitted to a new car. He has adked us, to show proof that, Nissan as a cehicle builder at one of their facilities, anywhere in the world, or a Nissan dealer ( they didnt) Fitted certain items for use on public roads somewhere in the world, to new cars that had not been either sold and retro fitted, or sold and fitted out with the items from the parts list. Nissan in japan, prepered new cars, with items fitted, then shipped them to other countries, and had them registered, or had them japanese registered, for use on public roads. They were then, in some cases scrapped/pushed off boats as in the Australian events cars on return to Japan, or onsold to privateers. Upon being told of the varios Z cars used for such events in aeurope/UK/Africa, the Historic commdsioner has adked to be given further infirmation. This is a psitive breakthrough for us here in Australua. Other makes of cars have had very dubious and vague allowances based on heresay, runour and a letter or two from some obsure new car deaker, claiming they fitted such and such to this or that. MG as a manufacturer, NEVER fitted a 45 DCOE Weber to a MGB, but just one dealer fitted a scant half dizen to new cars and sold them, Not a factory option, not fitted by factory. Porsche dealer in Sustrala fitted 74-76 2.7 and 3.0 model with 7"-8" rims, factory did not, subsequently Porsche now run 7/8's. If we can show, and confirm, that Nissan at a plant, department, duvision, whatever, actually bolted stuff to new cars, this is FAR superior to the MGB/Porsche argument. Did Nissan do this? What do you know? I know nothing about the factory rally cars! I do know they were new cars, and not built for circuit racing, as a "competition variant", but were built for use on public roads, just like any other car would be used. Or do we just have to rely on one source, the Netherlands website! Another source of information/confirmation will back up the Netherlands website. Once again, we have been asked, " show proof that the Nissan factory, or a dealer, fitted these items to a car" Thats it, pretty simple, the commision chair is well known to me, he knows what we are trying to do, the above, his, statement, is very clear. Did Nissan fit the items from rhe "options catalogue" to cars in their pissession? Thank you Alan, And sorry Zac, but you know how passionate i am about the racing!
  15. Bottom pic is the thingy that lights a light on the dashcluster, when either the front or rear circuit has a leak or is faulty, it has a piston inside that slides back/forth that pushes up the switch in the middle. Near it will also be a seperate rear brake line pressure reducing calve which stops drum brakes from locking. The middle pic is interesting, barring the timber supports, the rear trailing arms and brake backings dont look like a Z If it is a disc braked rear end something, the little square inline fitting could be some sort of anti brakepad knock back, or residual line pressure valve. Top pic that circled item, dunno, rest looks normal Datsun, residual line pressure thing, to keep rear drum shoes in close proximity the drums, so you dont have massive pedal drop when first applying brakes!
  16. OI ! What about a lightweight 4.4 L all alloy V8 that weighs about the same as a L series 180B engine. After all Nissan did sell the 4.4 litre V8 President a proper Wangan screamer! That alloy one, still for sale, who's contemplating? $600
  17. Alan, in what market was a S130 sold with all orange only lenses embedded within the front bumper bar. Here in Australia the S130 was sold with a half orange/half white front indicator lens. Reason i ask, is that i had a front bumper bar, with orange only lenses, and the rubber trim and chrome bar was not like the Australian delivered ones, from what i recall. Also the S130 had a rack and pinion non power assist steering, the crossmember did not match the AUS cars. It also had the twin butterfly throttle body and matching manifold. The provenance of this car was dubious, it had Fairlady 280zx on one guard, no babging on rear, no sunroofs. It was right hand drive. Engine was a F54 block/P90 head. Interior and dash cluster was all English writing on controls. A JDM? A USDM? Not at all sure. I do have the only complete 280Z 1976 body shell in Australia, but, it is not a USDM 280Z! Its the CAMS Group S Historic race car. As an aside, i have approached our Australian Historic Commisioners with some information about the rally cars that Nissan Japan prepared for their team and the privateers that either bought or were given?, them, between 1970 and 1975 fir the Safari, RAC and Monte. I stumbled across a website that listed who drove what, when and where, with each cars registration plate for identification. Some had the unique cast 7" rim fitted, the crucial part is that Nissan Japan, or a division of, built up the cars. All i am relying on is that one website, british based, i think. Can you shed and further information or links to sites, that you may know of, or in the same vein Jason
  18. Hmm, me too, complete but no headers though!
  19. Front end of car is bent. What was its alignment settings? A suspension shop may have compensated to btain close wheel alignment by cutting and joining, it can be done without being obvious.
  20. Ok, lets get you licensed up, it's not hard, and later in year is Island Magic! 3 days of racing, You'd be in with the Open Spirts Cars class,, ( john mckeon has run there, plenty of the mx5's and PSRCA boys) but you'd need to hustle along, as they could run the 125% rule. Or just buy a group S car, go drum brake racing! 3days next March! I dont think its a WDSCC issue, it is a cams permit issue Bill has run the TR after bridge, ther TR into Esses, quite a few times now. Sprints and HRCC practice stuff.
  21. Comfort zone? It was noted your lack of gloves or a HANS device at PI, yes for a club level lapdash, not required, yet! For the circuit i am sure you are reffering to at Map, ie after bridge TR, then SO ( road on right) follow main road, may invoke a CAMS requirement in regards to higher driver attire standards and persinal safety eqipment. The so called "comfort zone" you refer to, ie the NDN 2009 2.1 km circuit, seemed to get plenty of positive feedback, if the new extension was added, ie the full perimeter layout, this will most certainly satisfy the "fifth gear" speed freaks, and still keep it relatively safe. Unless WDSCC has changed their stance, TR under bridge then SO wont be permitted due to the much higher terminal speeds going into the extension. It's a safety thing. Imagine this, you are at Lakeside through the kink, about to hit brakes fir Karrousell, and your front tie rod breaks, are you safe, in your current lapdash attire? Stay tuned to Tetley, announcements soon about personal safety equipment being made available, at a Tetley price! But wasn't PI great!!!
  22. Oh jebus Locky, dont start him, re MP in 2015 ! The other clubs would get involved and assist but they also want a say, and a share of the spoils! The way NDSOC run their events is admirable. It'd be great to even come close to replicating that! Oh and Richo, Natsoft had your fadtest at 2.04, surely that cant ge right, and apI being the best fifth gear circuit in the country, crikey, even a atmo old plain standard Z does 1.54's We'll have to drag you down there again for a six hour event!
  23. Clutch pack Well bought What are you planning to do with the car? I ask the question, as, it will have the two thick spacer plates fitted, and if you were to use car for "spirited driving" or some track days,,, while it is out, and partially dismantled, you may wish to replace the spacers with additional clutch plates, and get the pre-lad tightened, from a stock of about 50 lbs to around 100 pounds breakaway. Or, just stick it in and go!
  24. Welcome! Good intro! Which Nissan dealership you at? Any possibility of parts for some who may be after stuff?
  25. For "bang for buck" as suggested prior, stock ZX injection manifold, new VLTurbo Commo injectors, XF Falcon TB, sucking through stock AFM, or run a MAP setup, aftermarket ECU. You can only consume as much fuel/air as it can suck air. Basic lo-buck setup, using modern ECU, tuneable to give correct air to fuels right through rpm range. Cost? I have little idea, but Manifold 50-100 Injectors x6 400 Xf TB at wreckers 50-100 Ecu 800-1200 Map 50-100 Fuel press reg 100-150 Incidental hoses plumbing pipes air filter etc 150-200 Tune/setup/dyno with wide band 300-600 Anyone care to add anything else!
