Zac, you got this looking quite unique. I did not realise those SSR's you got off me would end up looking so nice, well done. The purists down south can go eat a k-nob. We just roll cool up here in Qld!!! When i pulled up behind it today, the fit and finish off of the 240K tail lights was very neat. Now all i need to supply you is a gun engine and one of my special gearboxes! Work on the paintjob for now!

RB RB RB, they're like bottom holes, everyone's got one!! The 40's sound great, look schmck, and once set up, and balanced with interlinking throttle linkages dine the right way, stay pretty close in tune.

European = Spanish. Lower cost compated to old Italian ons, as they do noy have all the internal passages for transition stages. They do work, and at 40 mm bores with a bit of a choke venturi, you will get very good airspeed which gives good fuel atomisation. They will run out of puff above 6500-7000 rpm. Good for street not so good in 40 mm for full on track. There are better manifolds available

Well, all you lot had better put April 2015 into your calenders! Three days of track based events, show and shine, Night Drags (1/8th mile) Country drive, dinners etc, all at Queenslands Morgan Park Raceway ( two hours closer to Melbourne than Brisbane city !) What car to bring, mmmmm, oh yes, a 120Y, of course!

Smart move Pete! Anyone can eadily order and get one delivered from overseas, the basic version with the post clips to attach to your existing helmet, around $550 aud I have one now, from Murray Motorsprt in Ireland. Also NickyGrist.com, DemonTewwks. Com do them. After a death and a fairly severe touring car crash at Lakeside in Qld, there is a heck of a lot more awareness for these.

Jeff athomas, from Melbourne, in the ex Wayne Potts Historic Prod Sprts blue and white Z, He paid $37k for it, not sure on the orange Z, green Porkchop is Geoff Morgan They would have been in Prod Dpirts races, or the Regularity fields. The Group N Touring car fields were wrll subscribed too

Possibly, going by his pic under his name, and his name, its a high mileage 1979 280zx engine. Must concur on the thoughts of others re price, although if it had some internal mods/work done, then it'd be pretty fair priced! Sam, where are you up to with your injection plans?

On my bench, i have both a P90 and a O5L The inlet/exhaust runners are same shape, short side radis hump the same. Comb chamber in O5L is much smaller, as is valves. Both are virgin untouched. The O5L has huge scope for D shaping ports, fitting bigger offsett valves, making more comp. One of the lads up here has just had a 90 finished, the intake runners have all been lifted to such an extent, the intake manifold bolts have had to be raised approx 15 mm. It is almost a straight shot down onto backs of valves In looking at a 38cc larger valved and ported n42, the O5L is the next best thing, followed by P90 Both are for sale, O5L $300, P90 $600 Price is up there, as i would rather not lose the 90. The 42 is a spare head for the L28 race motor, and 90 is a "just in case" spare for the race engine ( f54/p90)thats in the car now.

Roll cage padding Moratorium until end June 2013
dat2kman replied to dat2kman's topic in Racing Your Car
Well done, a bit of diplomacy goes a long way! Eventually all cars with a cage, in competition will require it, but current issue is rhe attachment. Suggestion f cable ties,,,,, but,,,, cable ties can burn,,,, eventually. Still being sorted out, i believe! -
All long noses should be clutch pack lsd's, if they have one fitted. The HR31's, to save money, only have half complement of clutch plates, and two thick spacer rings. Perfectly fine for street and sprited driving. Turns to mush in race conditions. Need to fabricate a bit of long rhs bar, with a correct sized shanked bolt in end. Bolt has to be close to one side. Bit of rhs about 5' long.say 45x 20 or 50x25 is fine. Attach by a bolt, a bit of flat stock say 25 or 30mm x5 or 6 mm, about 600 long, drill hole each end, bolt the flat to the rhs, so that at one end, you have 2x8 mm diam bolts poking out that are then able to be placed into your diff yoke. You'll now see why they need to be on the edges, so that you can get a socket inbetween the rhs and the flat, 3/4" drive is good, and a long bar. You do need to jack car up high, put it on ramps, or stands, fiddle about so that the rhs is braced to floor, socket on pinnion shaft, long long bar on socket, use your leg for max muscle, and she'll undo. Reverse for doing up. I use this method for all types of pinion flange, hence the adjustability.

Thats one, of the two slight issues, with hr31 lsd units. You jeed to swap it over for a r200 yoke that would come off a later 260 or 280 with a r200. Or get a hr31 tailshaft and get a driveshaft shop to put that flange onto your existing tailshaft. The second issue is regards the lesser number of clutch discs, and the spacers installed. Fortunately the clutch discs from Rodeo rear diffs ( some) fit perfectly, and are slightly thicker 2.1 mm vs 1.9 mm.

I dont know how to post the link to the pdf on the CAMS website, it has just been published, and more than likely, many event organisers and scrutineers are unaware Do a google search CAMS bulletins Hit the link, hit the link to the bulletin It is the latest one, B013-037. There are a few peeved ff rally guys, as well as plenty of owners of Historic logbooked cars, that have raised a number of questions, hence CAMS placing a temporary moratorium on this padding. Some one post up the link please!

CAMS bulletin B013-037 Moratoruim until June 30 2013 on cars in competition needing to fit SFI45 roll bar padding. For any competition below national level. Ie, dont panic if you havent got the new stuff fitted. You now dont need it, yet. But something is better than nothing
-
CAMS have placed a moratorium, ie not required, until end June 2013, on the SFI 45 roll cage padding requirement. You still need something, but not the expensive rock hard stuff complying to sfi45 Do not know back story, but this announcement is all over rally forums. Applicable to any competition vehicle below national level, this does not mean rhe Datnats are a national level event. CAMS bulletin number 013-037. Some scrutineers can be a bit slow reading the bulletins, be polite next weekend at the DatNats!

No problemo! Another RB 20 DET into L bell conversion done, and tailshaft too! Umm, what was the very watery brown liquid in that blue painted gearbox?? Not gear oil, that's for sure, poor thing has had a bit of a caning, but will ressurect easy enuf! Great to catch up with you all!

Mattie, it's def a different playing field, ie race v lapdash warriors. Over on pf there is interesting posts in motorsport section re HANS devices. It strikes me that some lapdash one lap guys are immortal, but at sub 60 second single flyers, their necks just can not be broken. What does the red ragtop weigh in at vs the Z? I'da thought youd get higher corner entry speed/exit speed, it's just the lack of top end thats keeping it at high 60's How do we solve that?

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
dat2kman replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Do the Malachi crunch on it! Three of you, seoerately lowball the price, ie really lowball, and a fourth comes in with a slightly higher lowball. That bogged over then three cans of red Supercheap spray paint, is sure to be hiding a multitude of sins, and with so many "race" and "competition" parts fitted, especially that "DATSUN" special diff, it's sure to be a winner! -
Ask them what zinc content it has, say compared to other "high performance oils" for engines, that they have done tests alongside of. We need higher zinc levels than modern spec oils provide. 6k-8k ppm is good, EPA dont like it. Joe Gibbs LAT Brad Penn Some older Penzzoils Are good

Longer track, more WOT, around the same fuel burn as at Bathurst. Just take , in car, and in jerry cans, what you usually take for a lakeside day 20 plus 20 plus 20?
