  1. The paint code for the air cleaner....the numbers mean nothing to me.. a local paint supplier matched it to a good air cleaner using I think it's a specrophotometer . I tried to spray a sample to photograph next to an air cleaner but it's a bit too cold and damp here at the moment. As for the hubcaps ... they all had a bit of corrosion on the inside...the worst one with the holes is the finished one in photo.... I etch primed, taped the front where the holes and filled from the back with body filler, removed the tape and finished painting. This was pretty much a trial to see how the masking went. I have another set that have been stripped and chromed in much better condition so I'll have them painted ( by some one better than I am at it) when I have the grill and tail light surrounds done. I also have a set in very good original condition which I'll keep that way....pretty sick really...three sets and Ill probably never drive the car with them on....when I had my original Z in the '70's I went out one night and lost a hubcap ...went out the next day to look for it and lost another one....the hubcaps were then about $30 each and " alloy" wheels were about $25...so that was that.
  2. I shouldn't joke about the dining room table....while the body shell needs my attention I'm doing other things...the gear knob resurrection....
  3. Yeah ... a bit of a fiddle ....dear wife is away for a week..... gearbox on the dining room table tomorrow night....SHHHH!!!
  4. In the interest in originality. This is where I first saw this... http://www.xenonzcar.com/s30/hubcaprefinishing.html My first attempt at it....... The hubcaps that I have done were the ones on the car when I bought it....very corroded on the inside...one had even rusted through in few places.... I had them re chromed ..UGGHHH!!! not cheap and then went through the process.... re plate mask etch prime prime colour coat I have another set, re chromed, that I will have done when I do the grill and taillight surrounds. As for the colour.... My local paint shop colour matched from a set of original hubcaps and my tail light surrounds... I only had an aerosol can mixed and sadly have lost the formula.... I also had the air cleaner and engine colour matched ... Still have the air cleaner colour formula The centre caps seem to be the biggest hurdle here Hope this is of interest to some....
  5. and yep...85 mm centres
  6. Hi Richard...I have an R200 3.7 but I think it came out of a 260Z 2+2...it came with my car when I bought it....not sure about the Z31 differences. Peter
  7. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic01b/33-1169 these are the 240z ones that i'm talking about if you are doing a 260Z I think they will be different..
  8. There is another process that I looked at for the tail light trims ( 240Z ) which is vacuum metallising. I spoke to them and they seemed keen to help but like Gav I decided to buy the repro ones from the US. I also spoke to them about doing my right side mirror stem and that seemed to be possible... the down side is that it isn't suitable for exposure to the elements ( outside the car) and they suggested a coat of two pack clear would fix that ...we didn't discuss cost. http://www.hyqual.com/home http://www.hyqual.com/services/vacuummetallising
  9. That looks good Barry....I recently bought a zinc kit from http://www.janekits.com.au/. have yet to set it up. There was a small plating operation in town here for a while and while his work was OK I didn't want trust them with my carbie linkages.
  10. Was that from advanced diaphragm options?
  11. Try this link....they might have one on the shelf or need one to reco...I had one done for a standard 240Z http://advancediaphragmoptions.com/
  12. Thanks for that.... I hope it's helping Craigz who started the thread. a photo attached of my flywheel and clutch. 230 mm pressure plate 225 mm friction plate and the fly wheel is drilled to suit that clutch and it came complete with cast iron shavings from the tapped holes. The car will be pretty much standard so I didn't worry about performance clutches. I assumed when they said it was a Navara clutch it was a petrol engine not diesel ...not sure if that would make a difference.
  13. The part number I asked for was 12310-P0100 which is listed as L24 / L26 12/72 on the number superseded to is 12310-G8806 The weight of the new one is 10.1 kg on one set of scales and 9.8 kg on another...so 10 kg sounds about right.
  14. I'm interested in what you wrote about the Navara flywheel. My car was an auto when I bought it but it came with most of the parts for a manual conversion. The fly wheel was in a very bad way...deep heat cracks and hard glazed spots so I bought a new one from a Nissan dealer. I quoted a 240z part number and he said it had been superseded to a Navara. It was dimensionally the same as the one that I had but I have no idea what that came out of. Do you , or any one else , have any idea what the weight of the 240Z flywheel would be? Might be hours of fun on the lathe coming up
  15. Looks great George.....forgive me if you have posted this somewhere else in the build thread...have you decided on a colour ? Pete
  16. A photo of the original one on my car. I have seen plastic ones on ebay from Thailand. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1x-HOOD-support-clamp-holder-CLIP-DATSUN-1200-B110-KB110-B120-B122-/161126987911?hash=item2583eab887 Banzai motorworks list a similar one for 1974 to 1978 cars. http://zzxdatsun.com/catBits.php at $7.60 from Thailand with fre postage might be worth a try. Good luck Pete
  17. Just looking at Gordo's post on the original 1973 car..... I hope some one who appreciates it is looking for a 240Z it is a gem.......this is my reason for this post is....is there any one else out there who bought one of these new or near new, in the '70's, and had a choice of colours? if so what was your choice ...paint colour and trim ?? Pete

  22. Well done PB 260z.......they need to learn on all types of vehicles ...old young etc etc ...there must be a lot of people who are grateful for thier training
  23. I like the fuel prices in the background.
  24. No idea of numbers...only the rego number.....it was a 1973 car bought new from Crawford's in Brookvale in about March or April that year and sold back to them in early 1977.
  25. Good one Gav https://www.youtube.com/user/Super100MPH A lot of old memories ( and a few recurring nightmares ) in here as well
