  1. I have a spare set of carbies on E88m manifolds dismantled at the moment.... the nut, item 15, in the link has a metric fine thread M16 X 1.5. A bit odd for a water fitting into aluminium but that's what it is....doubt that you'd get a fitting unless it came from a hydraulic supplier and its doubtful . Item 16 is a rubber seal of some sort ...mine was badly damaged and maybe not even original. The tube is 10mm outside diameter.
  2. This might be a bit late but might of interest. I had a car broken into quite a while ago and one thing that was taken was a spare key to the car.... don't ask the obvious ...I guess they didn't want the car..... the same key was used for ignition and other locks....I bought a new ignition switch and had a locksmith re key the other locks to suit. All the locks on my 240Z has quite a loose fit With key. I managed to get a new tailgate lock from MSA and bought a set of non genuine door and fuel door locks on eBay..... I dismantled the locks and re arranged the bits to suit the tail gate key ( genuine Nissan ) the only problem was getting the trim off and back on again without damageing it. Hope this might be of some use.
  3. Thanks....I rang the local dealer with the part number this morning and Nissan's system was down...they didn't get back to me yet , although they have been very good in the past.....it wouldn't take much to machine a couple up.
  4. Thanks for your help all.... it looks like the mainshaft nut is no longer available...is that correct??
  5. should have spell checked......"had a look inside and the hard parts look good" and I'm only sixty five and a half....
  6. Thanks Lurch ...that's the box I'll be using......now that I've had alook inside and the gard parts look good... the ratios will suit better than the later box....my first 240z was an early 1973 bought new....do you knowif it would be the same ratios as the 260Z box?
  7. Ive only ever seen the " tack weld " tab washer a few times...... but it makes a lot of work for the next person,...UGH!!!!!
  8. Thanks Lurch..... I thought you'd be the best person to answer that..my situation is this .... the car I bought is an auto... the seller supplied a manual box reported to be out of a 2+2 260Z ( I had no reason to doubt that ) .... I also have another box I believe to be out of an early 280ZX I dismantled the 260 box today and did a tooth count.....2.906 1st gear etc and a blue speedo drive pinion. the other box ( counting the input and out put rotations ) appears to have a 3.21 1st , 2.077 2nd etc and wondering if it might have the left hand nut. the 260 box has been apart....red silicon and the mainshft nut restaked in a different place. Is the left hand nut a big issue on a road use car if the nut is tightened and staked correctly..... for what it matters the baulk rings are not brass the car by the way is under restoration.....and not registered Thanks for the reply Pete
  9. Can any one tell me when the left hand thread on the mainshaft nut was introduced? Pete
  10. But wait there's more......While working in Mackay a long time ago , I was told to "jump in the tilly " to run and errand....had me bluffed for a while... it was just Falcon ute to me....
  11. Does this look like the inner boot??
  12. Is plastic welding an option on something that small??
  13. Well!!!!!! I didn't even think of the mass / size of them......the originals are 6 gms and the MSA ones are 3.5 gms....on the kitchen scales...the bathroom scales Tell lies.... the only difference dimensionally looks like the two grooves...deeper and wider...so to answer your question yes they are thinner. for the race track maybe
  14. This is a photo of the inside of the MSA ones....no marking for left and right ( just came two bags marked l & r) and no retaining clips...Randellas might be a better option.
  15. Interesting reading your last post......I looked at vacuum metalising .....the compnay said that it was not very suitable for outside the vehicle suggesting a coat of two pack clear over the surface to protect. When I told him about the MSA ones he felt price wise they were good value so I bought them...... fortunately when our dollar was a bit more favourable...
  16. Hi Gav......do you have somewhere in mind to get the centre strips re chromed?
  17. Thanks for going to all that effort..... you saved me a bit work...... I would have put the car on the road standard before I tried to mess with things... seen too many people start at the wrong place and make things worse before they start....when I bought my present 240Z it was an auto...the person I bought it from had everything to convert to manual and a wholelot more ..I got the lot.... so now I have sway bars.....R200 diff etc that I don't really want....you can never have too many spare parts!!! Good luck to bluerat finding his bar..for what it matters the front bar on my car is 19mm and the front and rear 2+2 bars are 20 mm.
  18. This is interesting..... been thinking of trying a rear bar when I get the car finished...mine is 1973 240Z and although they didn't come with a rear bar I was surprised to see the mounting brackets there.... dat2kman...can you tell us a bit more about the differences between the 240 and the 260? The RHD parts catalogue shows the following for a rear bar and it doesn't differentiate between 240, 260 and 2+2 55511-E8100 up to 07-13 55611-E8100 08-73 to 08-74 55611-N3701 09-74 on A rear bar came with a collection of parts when I bought the car but I'm sure it came from a 2+2 ...the bar I have is 20 mm dia. I'm not sure if they need a rear bar or would even benefit from it
  19. I know that you are looking for door cards not trim...but has any one bought these skins http://zzxdatsun.com/catSoftTrim.php
  20. 75500-E4100.....listed as an option for HS30,RS30 and GRS30......very cool...perhaps you could swap it for something...like a new chrome part for your gear knob....
  21. Thanks Peter......
  22. It also had a heated rear window with the heating elements running vertically...
  23. Thanks Gavin...that is the car....I spoke to Jack with the idea of having a look at the car before it was shipped off to it's new owner but we didn't find a mutual time to do that. I seem to be spending a lot of time trying to track down cars that I have seen for sale....isn't retirement great :-\
  24. Does any one have any contacts in Nissan Australia head office?? as HS30H wrote ....there would have been paper records of all the cars that came into the country. If they still exist they would most likely be in a dungeon somewhere.....not likely that you'd find some one interested enough to go looking unless they owned one of the cars themselves..... According to information in a book "Datsun Z Fairlady to 280Z" by Brian Long, there were 2358 240Z's sold in Australia 1970 319 1971 894 1972 362 1973 783 I wonder where he got the figures from. There were also private imports ...one was sold from Narrabri in NSW recently....it was supposed the be a private import into Australia in the '70s it was metallic blue with Fairlady 240Z badges....I believe it was headed to Western Australia....without trying invade peoples privacy it might be good to know the chassis number of that car.
