Every Z being parted out will have one of those finisher panels. However, the satin black paint is very thin and the panels are prone to rust. So find a good one but you may need to restore it. They have an imprinted texture in the metal. What year is your car? Nissan made several running changes to 260Z doors including relocating the winder and lock pull locations, which likewise affected the door cards. So you'll need to be careful to find the right ones that match your car. The 240Z cards are a less ornate design and the door pulls are different. Maybe they could be adapted to suit your particular 260. Certainly the door pulls are different so even if the 240 cards can be used you'll have to provide fixing points in the sheet metal to accommodate the pulls.

Ah thanks for the info. Yes have examined them again and they are definitely zinc coated. Just wasn't sure whether the body colour was supposed to be on them as well. Much of the paint has worn off, and need to tidy them up so must decide whether to strip them for the natural finish or repaint them.

Yep, good isn't it? Not much point in inquiring about ads 6 months old. If you want to find a Zed you need to move very fast when one comes up for sale as they change hands very quickly, there being a diminishing number of cars and an increasing number of people wanting one which is steadily pushing up prices.

Am wondering at what stage of assembly the bonnet hinges and springs were installed and so did they get partly covered or fully covered in body colour or not at all? On mine they appear to have had some sort of passivated coating to prevent rust then paint - well I think it's the original paint?? - over that but thanks to wear and tear of the hinge moving parts where the paint has worn off it's difficult to tell.

Looks more like a Jensen Healey than a Zed. I wonder what they used the roof off, interesting.

Maybe just get the man to make them without the hole and the rectangular slot, and cut them yourself? Or if he wanted to target the RHD market - overseas, and also for RHD cars in America - he could easily make both versions.

Well no not exactly, we have the indicator lever on the right, they have theirs on the left AFAIK. So you'd have to get the man to make them with the cut-outs for both the headlamp stalk, and the indicator stalk, reversed. (The cut-out for the headlamp stalk is circular, the cut-out for the indicator stalk is rectangular).

For 240 or 260? Which do you have? The door cards are quite different designs, with different armrests etc. The windscreen strips are stainless steel not chrome. The front set is the same for 240, 260 & 2+2. So try the ads on Gumtree etc for cars being parted out. By 'dash vent plastic cover' do you mean the full width filler panel between dash & windscreen? Mine is black painted metal not plastic.

Righto, we're talking cross-purposes. The panels you are referring to are what I'd called the taillight surrounds - my term for them, anyway. Yes they are plastic. The surrounds differ between 2+2 and 2-seater, the 2+2 surround being slightly bigger. Whereas I was starting with the basics, asking whether the metal (structural) panel, of the body shell, is all 100% straight and not accident/rust damaged/repaired. It might be hard to photograph but harder still to diagnose without something to look at.

Photo? Has the taillight (metal) panel been damaged/dented or been rust repaired do you think? Hard to diagnose without a picture though.

The tail light unit is the same whether 2-seat or 2+2, just the surround is shaped slightly differently. Don't go cutting or trimming anything on your units, they normally just slot in to place on the bolts. Have your units got the foam gasket on back? Is one or more of the mounting bolts bent? Is the taillight panel damaged/dented/been rust repaired? Where exactly is the clash happening, what isn't lining up, & is it the same for both? What is the background to your car - were the taillights on it when you bought it or are you trying to put a disassembled car back together?

My theory is that people's interest in old tech / low tech only goes back so far. In my younger days I used to see vintage even veteran cars out on rallies on a regular basis. Now where are they? The old boys who restored them have by now long since passed on, and the cars that have out-lasted their owners are generally residing in museums.

I have a spare column, been wondering the same thing. To my aging eyes it actually looks as though those two screws are driven in then the heads peened over. I was thinking to use a small cold chisel & cut a slot across the screw head for a conventional flat blade screwdriver, but haven't tried as yet.

All of which makes the prices some people ask for used screens look a bit hopeful.

5 down 5 to go..... cheaper than some vendors have been asking for used screens lately.....

So what's the story with these, do they perish and crumble away or what? Mine are still buried in place, hard to feel much of them with the hatch on but the portion I can reach still feels pliable. Had a look at another owner's 2-seater last weekend and same with his.

Take a look at Balinski's post, he has a set of seats for sale. He's listed them at $115 for the pair. Need refurbishment, but you're wanting to recover them anyway. And he's in Brisbane, out east past Capalaba.

I have a 240Z wheel here to compare with my NZ 260Z. Completely different design, nothing interchangeable, not even the spring! I think it reasonable to presume the USA 280Z wheel is the same as the 260Z which they got too? But there are a couple of different sized padded sections, my 260 has the taller one but I found a smaller style recently, dunno what it's origin is looks much like the one in your picture.

Going by the sticky you are right, engine was removed from a K but must have already been a transplant. Odd. So not much point in putting a K engine in if it's all small port and low compression.

Yes the early 260Z panel is the same, with the straight-across bottom rail. But I don't know when it changed to the 'dipped' rail style.

Plus I think they would be 6" rather than the 5.5" of the 260Z style mags.

That's a nice line-up of tidy Ks for sure, I do like those round taillights.
