Alternatively if someone knows a good service to check cars out could you let me know? Thanks in advance, Declan
  2. Small things really, was ready to take it to some body shops for quotes, had a flat tire. No biggie, I'll just change that aaaand there is a security bolt on it. Managed to get it off and have replaced it with a normal bolt, have two of them if anyone wants them for one reason or another. Cleaned the battery terminals and then applied what I can only call goop on, had it tested and in perfect condition, so calling that a victory. Happy little accident, changing the wheel fixed the pulling to the left problem, now drives absolutely perfectly, and start up is much better with the cleaned terminals. Should be hearing back in regards to quotes soon, and am picking up new tires tomorrow.
  3. I'll be sure to let you know cliff if I decide to sell, but I think I've gotten over the "oh shit" moment now haha. I'll be getting a bunch of quotes this week, and been reading through the service manual in my spare time, actually can't wait to start on the mechanicals. Just need to find some good quality jacks and stands, then the fun begins!!!

  5. I'm starting to think I've gotten in over my head here, is there anyone in Brisbane who would be able to help me look at the car and my options with it, and costing etc? I can probably do the welding on top myself but there is rust underneath it as well, around the fuel cap, on top of the windscreen. Don't know if an amateur job will do the trick.

  7. Yeah the body work is going to be the biggest hurdle, as I knew from the beginning. I'll look around for a body shop to take a look, I think that will determine where I go with it.

  9. Where do you think I should take it to have the rust appraised? Or who? If they are a mobile unit that would also be fantastic, cos I'd prefer not to drive it for really apparent reasons. Alternatively, anyone here in the know want to do so for a slab or something? And finally, how high would I need to raise the car to work on all that myself? I'm quite confident in my ability to swap parts around, I've been doing do as a job on kitchen appliances.

  11. I think the best way to describe it would be to liken it to a baby. It's new, and i love it, but it just shat itself for the First time. I really don't know how much rust fixing would be, someone might be able to guess based on the pics I'll put up later?
  12. Welp, got it back from the mechanic and it certainly isn't what I was hoping for. The bottom is full of bog, both the rails are destroyed and to my relatively untrained eyes, it looks like everything possible is leaking. I've put the list of what the mechanic found before he gave up, I'll put up pics of the problem areas later.
  13. I'm aiming to do as much as I can, for sure, but there are some things I will have trouble with so nice to have options I think. One other thing, is there much of a difference in quality for bushing? Will need to replace all of it and there are quite a few places selling them, not sure whether to spring for the expensive stuff, but will if it is worth it of course.
  14. Haha yes indeed shame about the transmission, i have plans to fix that at some point in that nebulous point in time "the future". From what little i was told before a shake of the head and a cloud of dust i understand that basically everything rubber that could be worn out, has done so. I believe new tires might be in the works as well and exhaust needs checking, along with the timing belt and a few other knick knacks. And, of course, there is the rust. A little bit in the engine bay, all along the top of the windshield, a bit on the bonnet and around the fuel cap. I paid 2500 for it, which i considered reasonable, conidering i could actually drive the thing, and around 100 kg of parts in the back of it too. Im bringing it to a mechanic tomorrow for a full inspection, does anyone know a good reliable place in brisbane that cuts and fixes rust? That is a fairly high priority on my to do list.
