Just get the repro ones from Phil's Rotaries, Brendale Brisbane, see eBay. From my experience they fit well, all I did was to replace the standard nuts with the shouldered type to match the originals. IMO it's not worth phaffing around with used ones, they are all fairly perished and degraded by now which is why you see so many Zeds without them.
-
So how many have you supplied now Gav? Dozens? Why are so many people needing them?
-
With the green one still for sale after many months at that asking price then clearly the market has spoken - it's asking too much for what it is. Perhaps the price is not negotiable, and the owner is happy to wait until the market comes up to meet it. Except that when something is on the market for too long it gets stale.
-
Having monitored values over the past few years I'd have to partially concur with the above opinions - looking at what it is as it sits there as an eclectic mix of Z bits of various years and not usable and needing absolutely everything doing I'd have thought 8K but know that may translate to 10K or perhaps more if more than one person takes an interest and there's a bit of competition. All you can do is advertise it, start high, and see who comes out of the woodwork wanting one.
-
For a 240 or 260? They are different.
-
Yes that's why people advertise the year of 2+2 the door came off, as the door catch design changed, as did some of the internals and even the glass profile. The good old 1600s might have been pretty much standard across the years but the Zeds were anything but, with numerous detail and design changes along the way and from year to year and to conform for different markets.

Cloth Seats 240Z Original Equipement Or Not?
gilltech replied to John's topic in General Maintenance
Ditto Gav's opinion, first shot looks like an original late 260Z seat, the other looks like a typical cloth retrim. I'm not aware either that any 240Zs had fabric. -
The bailey channel rubber stripping product comes in various dimensions, one of which matches the Nissan Datsun profile, just take yours in to match it.
-
I think it good that the new repro badges are metal not plastic, but don't understand why they would be made smaller. However, as long as they cover the 3 x pin holes in the guards I guess it doesn't matter.
-
The original brake lines on my 260 are silver.
-
There are also some just listed on FB, but they are metal not plastic and 1 1/2" shorter than the originals, plus don't have the pins on back. I don't know if they and the ZCD ones are the same or not.
-
Just get one from Bursons.
-
The original 14" steel rim or 260Z alloy wheel with a 70 series tyre fits perfectly as those are what the wheel well was designed around.

Well as long as there's paperwork to back it up then it has provenance, unlike the vast majority. Relevant to the USA but, yes, probably a bit meaningless in any other country. Mustang, Camaro and Corvette factory pace car replica packages, as were sold new to the public at the time, fetch good money in the USA. The actual specially prepared pace cars which were used on race day - at least two, sometimes three, to ensure a backup in case of problems, or for promotional purposes - are very much sought after. All the race circuits used pace cars, and manufacturers competed with each other for the honour of supplying them in any given year. Sometimes the winning driver would be given one, therefore adding his fame to the car's provenance. But all the pace cars I've seen have had bright graphics along their sides proclaiming the race circuit, the race and the car. Mind you, installation of the stickers was generally optional and many owners chose not to. It would be interesting to track down some old photos of the 240Zs to see how they were decked out.

Wtb - Set Of 'swastika' 15 Inch Rims & Space Saver Spare
gilltech replied to Tone_82_280zx's topic in Wanted
That's a 300ZX wheel isn't it? Edit. maybe not, looks familiar, but can't place it... -
I once had a spare set from a late 2+2 and they had thicker steel in places than the ones on my early 2-seat 260Z, so suspect they later got further upgraded for the heavier body shell.
-
I presume the different 2+2 floors is to do with the different seat support frames used on early vs late versions, but I wouldn't have guessed there are 4 variations. What about the 2-seaters?
-
And some Zed 'gas flaps' had a twist knob instead of a key. So there's another option for you. Note and I'm not 100% sure but I think the 2-seat flaps are different to the 2+2 flaps.
-
Ditto what 1600dave says, I don't like the pistolgrip and much prefer the conventional type of gas torch, the latter has perfectly fine general balance whatever flame size is selected and not at all tiring to use.

Same in NZ, we had 'car-less' days, so one had a sticker on the windscreen denoting which weekday one had decided to use public transport or get a lift; woe betide anyone caught driving on their car-less day. Whether that mad scheme actually saved a tanker or two of imported crude oil or not has never been announced. Kept the traffic cops busy checking and no doubt a fresh bunch of bureaucrats were set up to manage it. As Enzo so eloquently points out, from the early 70's it was not a good time to be selling V8-engined cars, everyone was going sixes and fours and frantically down-sizing and being frugal with MPG as gas prices went up dramatically, USA especially so, with long lines at the gas stations due to shortages. Same in this part of the world, I can remember seeing gas stations having to close once they ran out. Big block V8s got dropped from American cars from about '72 onwards, there was even one year where a V8 wasn't available in the Ford Mustang lineup and one had to make do with a turbo 4 or a 6. Remember the big Leyland P76 - 'right car/wrong time'? Besides, there were aftermarket companies like Scarab providing V8 kits for Zeds.
-
Yes don't take it personally, he's just blunt like that. Of course you haven't, why would you have, welcome to the forum! Good to hear you've been a long time Z owner and interesting to hear about these cars of yours you have stashed away.

It must be the silly season again... FFS stop fighting you lot, it doesn't achieve anything but bad feeling all round. The reality check is that you're all about 3-4 decades too late, to find suitable paperwork, if there ever was any useful or usable to be found. No disrespect intended to anyone but the people who sold the cars are, sadly, probably either in their dotage or pushing up the daisies by now, and documentation relating to their businesses and what they sold to who with what mechanicals fitted long gone. Just race your Zeds against each other, and other 70's cars owned by like minded people. Forget about trying to compete with 'over-priced Volkswagons' with their wide wheeled fat arses.
-
Damn, a few mm too large for my wheels, but thanks anyway; I'll step aside, over to CraigZ.....
-
Not necessarily. There is more than one hole size.
